I must have angered someone!

I must have made someone angry with a post or something because when my earnings changed this morning so did my ratings. I have been a 10 here on my lot for as long as I could remember. I try not to step on toes seeing as how I am a reasonable person and get along with others just fine, I honor the opinion of others and try to see things from their points of view. When I rate people I give all positives unless the person is just down right rude! I wonder what I did and how I can change the mind of that person. I do not want to be seen negatively. Has this ever happened to you? How did you take it?

It has happened to me and looks like my ranking is never going back to ten as it has been like that for several months now. Some people are just haters here and it's not our fault at all. Some people also misunderstands the discussion and just rate the person without thinking clearly.
I couldn't do anything about it anyway. So i just continue living my life here in mylot and enjoying the discussions without caring too much of my ranking.

lost my response copy paste. I once had a blue star but my discussion on smoking being hazardous to ones health angered two trolls who stayed up
all night minusing everything I had ever posted. I went down to five.I contacted the admins and they caught the two men,. they did kick them out but only put my star up to an 8 so I worked hard and my friends must have helped because I soon moved up to a 9.now I seem stuck at 93 percent rating but I can live with that.I was happy with the way mylot admins handled that was so great. much appreciation to mylot.

I was red years ago but I have never been blue. I got bashed down to silver and now, because I have such a high number, it takes years to get it back up again.
If yours was balancing on 95 it would not have taken much to take it to 94 where it is now and it might go back up just as quickly. Here's hoping!

There's is hope to her yet if she start more discussions that are not much controversial. I remember bashing a lot of pinoy lotters during the 2010 elections, from 97 i was hanging my star from 95/94. until i stop participating in politics and move on withmy life. i think more people still neg rates simply because they don't agree, and that is still wrong.

I don't go to politics or religion (maybe 3 times in 4 years) but that makes no difference. There are haters and jealous folks on here too
I agree that many neg rate simply because the response is not what they want to hear. Tough for them but they should NOT abuse by neg rating

I guess you were not active a few years ago when people were getting negged all over the place. There are some here who will neg you if you offended them even in the slightest of ways so don't take it personally. If you do find out who it is, maybe you can find out why, but I imagine it was more then one person for it to go down a whole star.

It happens. It has happened to me more than once. At first I was upset about it, but my friends gave me some really good advice that I listened to ... don't worry about it and keep on doing what you are doing, especially if you are not being rude and obnoxious to people. We cannot control what other people do, and if we have fun on here and do not worry about it, then that is the best thing. If we start stressing about the little things, then this place will not be fun, and we will eventually not want to come here, and that is not good.

Sooner - I did not see that discussion, so I can't really comment about that. I have wondered the same thing myself many times about ratings on discussions/comments that are deleted. In fact, in a discussion where you and I were going back and forth about the use of negative ratings, I asked the exact same question. My point was that if something is bad enough to be negatively rated, then it most likely will get deleted anyway, so it is just best to report and move on rather than wasting time on negative ratings. If they do stick, though, then your point about the negative ratings is valid.
MysD - I think that a clarification from an official source on this issue would be good as well.
Amanda - I haven't really interacted with you, but I have read some of the things that you have said on this discussion. I think that calling people "administrative pets" most likely is offensive to some, although I am not sure that "myLot police" is any better. You are free to use these terms, but if you get negatively rated for using them, then that really is on you, isn't it? I have argued that I don't negatively rate as I believe that anything worth negatively rating is worth reporting. Sooner argued with me that this is an abuse of the rating system, because anything that detracts from myLot or negatively affects myLot should be rated negatively. Since we are asked to report things that are GVs, then labeling people that you think do this as "pets" or "police" could be seen as negatively affecting myLot, don't you think? Of course, I could be wrong.

Yes it has happened to me and i wasn't too happy about it either.y rating was a 9 for the longest time when all of a sudden it dropped and i like you do not understand why and probably never will,
I have come to know there are people here who will rate others negative for no apparent reason and even if you are respectful in your responses, but may disagree with the OP you risk getting a negative vote as well.
As far as changing the mind of the person of people doing this, you would have no way of knowing who they are, or why they voted this way, since we aren't privy to to this information and that's one of the reasons i feel some people feel free to vote as they wish and to be honest, wish the rating system would include this information since i think it would decrease the number of people voting negative, if the person doing this was required as to explain why they voted the way they did.

When it comes to what is on my mind I will speak it 100%. When it comes to this my ratings are pushed behind in priority. I feel I would rather be real to myself and others than to be fake for a rating!

It could also be that people are just failing to rate you at all. When the stars were introduced I came on as a ten, a few months later I became a 9. It took me two years to get back to a ten. Just be yourself. It should not be possible for one person to ruin your ratings. It is easier to change your rating the fewer posts you have, for you to raise your star two points (from 94 to 96%) you would have to get eighteen plusses on your profile extra, that is not so much. It would have taken eighteen negatives or failure to rate to lower you those same two points. You may have been slipping for a little while. I would not worry about it though. Just be yourself and have some fun here.

Oh, I am not sure either, and I cannot prove this, as my red star experience came in the bad old days when your negative ability was not limited.I started at 99, though.Dropped to 82. At that time there were also on site moderators. One was my friend, but we did not know he was a mod til he quit. That is where I got the percentage information. I am saying that the extra plusses need to be in addition to what you would normally get. I have seen it happen when I have befriended someone who was a three, with a rating under 100 that I could go through and plus and they were a four or five by the next day. I still feel that failure to rate people also brings their percentage down, and that could well be where the weighting of the situation is. The plus has to make up both for the minus and for no ratings at all.

I do not believe that you are right here, GG, although I definitely do not know for sure. Still, I believe that negative ratings count (or are weighted) far more than positive ratings, so a few negative ratings would affect our reputation and it would take A LOT more positive ratings to get back up to our previous position. There are quite a few others that believe the same as I do, because we have experienced a sudden drop in our ratings overnight and it took weeks, months and sometimes years ... and some of us are not back to where we started even today.

Hello Amanda,
that is the negative side of the rating system. before one person can really damage you're rating because the rating was unlimited per discussion(e.g. hatley / mysdianait).but with the aide of a veteran who were once here, he made the admin change their minds and have the rating system limited to 15. and mylotters can only rate once they have achieve 100+ post
but i've been more concerned as to how some one can damage the reputation so high that it has affected the number of you're post even if it's 880+. one speculation that's been in my mind perhaps is that the negative rater has one or more mylot accounts and also having more than 100+ each.
The solution is to have mylot with a registered IP address of each members, but that will sacrifice the "affiliated option" in the preference section clearing the message that mylot should have one account=one user only..

When i was in my 9 star rating, i noticed that it would dip down to 8 and then up again and then dip again.
But i didn't much mind it, lest it will discourage me from posting. So, what i did, was just to post and post but of quality one. I avoided responding to topics that i think will get deleted. That being so, i went up to 10.
I guess, people have different opinions. Others may like what you post but others may not. Just carry on, and post nicely.

Oh Amanda it really hurts when your reputation slips but nothing we can do much about it as this is not in our hands but yes what is in our hand is to post quality responses to the discussion.
I don't think it will take much from you because right now you are on 94/100 and you need 95/100 to get blue star again all you need to post good quality reponses & leave it on other users.
I know how it hurts because mine also slipped from "7" to "4" & then again climbed to "8".
Don't leave hope you will definitely get it again.

Well, I have participated a lot on here the same as you have, Amanda. I can assure you that I have not hit the "negative" button nor the "!" button once. You have also stated that you only rate positively, so I believe that the reputation of everyone participating in this discussion should at least remain intact and most likely yours will increase. Mine will not as it would take a lot more to increase mine than yours, but mine should not decrease, either.

Hi Amanda, I hope you get your 10 back. I am new here, So I was just wondering.. If I don't like comment of a person.. should I negate it ? Because that's purpose of the conversation.. If someone is commenting the wrong matter that should be rated down right ?

If someone is being rude then I negative them. But other than that I positive. If I do not like there comments I see if it is an opinion and I can see if I understand their point of view. Then I still positive them because it is what they think even though it is not the same as my views!

How to use the Discussion Rating System (DRS) is covered in the FAQs here http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq17.aspx#2
It clearly states that you should not rate a person negatively just because you do not agree with what they are saying. Amanda is absolutely right ... if you do not agree but the other person has made a good point, then you should positively rate that person.

I am much more likely to report abuse than to rate negatively. I would say maybe one in a thousand I have rated negatively, and many of those have been when I have detected one user using two accounts and I have both rated neg and reported the abuse. I have reported people for isolated instances of rudeness, when it did not turn into a flame war but it was just tacky. Like someone telling me that I was dumb and should stay out of discussions I knew nothing about. (it happens, and maybe I am dumb. I just do not believe that all residents of any one nation are scammers, even Nigeria.)
