I don't know about this one since alot of politicians seem to rely on telling lies or at least spinning the truth with a straight face. I'm mostly interested in responses from people who's been around for quite some time and have seen many politicians come and go since they could probably give a better answer.

i'm 69 and have seen many politicians over the years. i'm also a political junkie and try to watch everthng i can especially around elections. one of the best examples i've seen was michele bachmann's appearance this past sunday with bob schieffer. he noted that a neutral group devoted to fact checking, found that of 22 statements she had made, 1 was the truth, 7 were total lies, and the rest were only partially true. she avoided the restated question 3 times befure he gave up.
this is how our politicians operate. all of them. because the great american public, for the most part, don't care or don't pay attention. it doesn't matter how big a lie or how idiotic it sounds. adherents to these politicians disregard these lies, i guess they assume that they'll tell the truth once elected.
so i think what i'm saying is that having a poker face doesn't matter.

Good question but I really can't decide. My favorite politician from the past has to be Charles de Gaulle. He said what he meant in no uncertain terms. I liked him particularly since he was against Britain entering the European Common Market. This wasn't a market nor did it have anything in common, so they changed the name to European Community. Then it wasn't a community either, so it became the European Union. There is absolutely no sense of unity so... Charles was right!
Je me dit, non!
