What will exactly happen when you are dead?

Basically this is a simple question when someone asks this. Most of the people will not give it much thought about it because they think this question is silly. But should you give it a thought about it even a little, you'll find this question is pretty deeper than you thought. And when you think about it, this question can sometimes make you shiver.
I'm being serious here, and hopefully no simple-minded persons came here and insult what I started (This because I've been mocked quite several times in a forum for being silly or stupid) cause I believe you're all not that kind of person.
Back to topic, When I give it a thought I could only guess that when we're dead, it's like sleeping but with no more waking up. Kinda scary though... What about you guys? Any other opinions?

We are all made of energy- everything is. Energy cannot be destroyed, so we cannot really die. The body returns to the earth and the spirit returns to the cosmos. The universe is the original recycler. :) Namaste.

I agree that the spirit is energy, but I do not believe that it is part of the mind. The mind is just the brain, but it is not consciousness. Behind thoughts, there is pure existence. This is what we attempt to tap into when we meditate.

i totally agree to this explanation except for the spirit....
because spirit for me is also a kind of energy that drives the human body into motion as per dictate by the human mind....
therefore, spirit also is a part of the human body....
recycled by the original recycler the universe itself....

My body will slowly decompose (unless the cat eats it), rotting away and being eaten by maggots. Alternatively, it'll be cremated and I'll have a picture of Gizmo from the Gremlins films on the urn, shouting "Bright light!"
As for my spirit, who knows? I'd like to think I'd be reincarnated as a cat with a really nice owner, so I can lie around in the sun and get cuddles all day. Knowing my luck, I'll end up in purgatory or coming back as a cockroach.

Hey, don't make jokes about cats eating you around a rat.
You think being a cockroach would be bad, just hope you're not a rat.

Rats are brilliant - extremely smart and better than dogs as pets. You don't need to walk them, for a start.

There is no one who can really answer this question. Anyone who claims they can give you a definitive answer is at best deluded or at worst lying to you.
All that can be said with any certainty is the your body will be a hunk of decaying meat tha someone has to find a way to dispose of. Any thing beyond that is unprofitable speculation.

Only one thing I would change about your response: Alot of people do profit quite alot from that type of speculation. In more ways than just financially.
Even though it is true we cannot give a definitive answer, people can share hopes and beliefs to give one another solace, and that is priceless.

Well yes, you're right. But it's not a harm for listening to some "Speculations" right?

I don't think it is a silly thing to think about i think about it all the time and i assumed most other people thought about it as much.Because i believe in God i hope i will go to heaven.I do worry that i haven't been good enough to go to heaven and may end up in hell i don't worry that there is no afterlife as then i wouldn't know about it.

I'm sticking with heaven and hell. That's what I've believed in all my life; that there's a paradise for the good and a place made of fire for the evil. I've read a lot of articles about spirits, the cosmos, and beyond but I just couldn't let go of the thought of God and His kingdom.

"I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine"
I hold onto this Star Wars quote. Freedom from our mortal coil should not be seen as a bad thing. It is another step on our personal evolution.
For me I think my self-soul will stay independent a little while, avoiding reincarnation this time, until all of us become One again, just as my physical body will be reclaimed by the cycle of life in the physical ecosystem.
If I just go to sleep and never wake up and that's all there is to it, I'm gonna be really peeved, or at least I would if I could.

I don't feel that you are being silly at all, this indeed is a serious question. As a Christian I believe what the Bible says. If a person has asked Jesus to come into their heart and is a Christian when they die they will go to Heaven to be with Him. Unfortunately, for those who aren't a Christian when they die the Bible tells us that they will spend eternity in Hell. I know this may not be popular, but the Bible is true and this is what Jesus tells us will happen to those who don't believe. I pray that you are a Christian and will spend eternity in Heaven. God Bless!

Hmmm. I'm wondering why you think you will be asleep? I believe I will be more awake and more alive than I am now. I believe that I will be free of my body and I will be able to be everywhere at once just like god is. I bie e we go back to god when we die so I will be chasing jackrabbits in heaven. Just kidding. I'll probably be running laps around heaven and seeing all who made it.

I will be a guardian angel to my family, friends and all the people who made me laugh and cry. :)
