Why do you think most people are afraid of dying?

I have been thinking about this for quite sometime already especially when most people have been worrying about the word ending last month which never happened. I have observed lots of different reactions from different people but most of their reactions are fear of dying. I think it is just a common reaction for people to fear death but for me it was quite different from most of the common reactions that i have observed from other people. I don't worry so much about dying unlike most people because i think i have nothing more to lose in life. I think its quite an unusual reaction towards death but for me its just how it is.
Maybe my way of thinking may have just been affected by my previous bad experience about life but i think there are also some people out there who feel the same way as i do.
How about you?
Are you also afraid of dying?
Why do you think most people are afraid of dying?

I think most people are afraid of dying because they're afraid of what they will be leaving. If I were to ask if I am afraid of dying, I can't tell yet since I have so many things and dreams that want to fulfill. That is why I am very grateful for each day I'm alive in this world. If you've accepted the fact that we will all go there at a phase of our life, then I think we won't be afraid of dying anymore.

I think most of the people are afraid of dying because they may have not lived their lives to the fullest. They may not have done the things they want to do or achieve. They may be afraid of leaving their loved ones. And , most common is, they are not yet ready.
If you are to ask me, I am afraid of dying because I am not ready to leave my 1 year-old daughter. What will happen to her if I am no longer here. Though many of my family members, relatives and friends loves and cares for her (whom I know will never leave her in case I die), but it is just so different when I am around and being a mother to her. I still want to see her succeed in everything she does in the future.

Nothing more to lose in life? Well that's not really a good reason to not fear dying; that's just sad. I hope you don't truly feel this way.
Anyway, I think the reasons why people fear dying is because it is unknown and because they fear the loss of their identity. Regardless of what exists beyond, it is not the same as life and most people can't imagine anything different.

People are afraid of dying because we don't know what happens when we have finished our lives. If you think about the amount of years that passed on Earth before we lived, it seems strange because we knew nothing about those years, and I would assume that we would know nothing of our years after we die. Even thinking about it now, I have a fear of getting "stuck" in consciousness after I pass away, and not being able to do anything about it for all of eternity. It might sound silly saying that, but it is a fear and I cannot help having that fear.

I cannot say that I'm afraid of dying but for sure I don't want to die. I still want to see my kids graduating school, getting married, having my first grand-child and then it's ok :D. Maybe people are afraid of dying mainly because they are not sure if there is anything after that. Because during the course of life you get so used to living that you don't want to change.

This really is a very tricky question. I think a lot of people are afraid of dying simply because no one knows what actually happens when they die. And its a pretty scary thought to think of leaving all your loved ones behind and everything. Personally, I'm not afraid of dying because I think its really just like going to sleep - when you die, its not you that suffers but the people that you leave behind, and I guess for me that's the worst part.

Well I'd say they are afraid because everything they've planned out will come to an end. Everyone has a life they want to live, and to have it cut short isn't something most people would want. We would also be leaving our loved ones heartbroken and possibly responsible to pay off all our debts. You could also be leaving your own children without a parent! How could you not be scared? Also the thought of not knowing where you will go when you die.

Hi cyclopz!
I think a lot of people are afraid of dying simply because maybe they have not finished living. Perhaps there are still things they want to do with their life, and have not been able to complete it yet. They don't want to go before they've done what they want to do in their life.
Of course, there are probably other reasons... but that is the only main one I can think of.
