What are your feelings on the right to euthanasia?

I live in Oregon and this is a right that we have. People that are critically ill or terminally ill can choose to end their own lives. I have seen many people suffer and I would not like to suffer like that. I am in favor of it if the person is capable of doing it for themselves. That would mean that they would have to plan to be prepared to take that final step on their own.

I would hate for my family and friends to see me in such a state, in that kind of situation I would sooner have the right to chose rather than linger in pain.

Not being able to live a quality life would be the number one reason for me doing this. I have worked with people who were bed ridden and miserable. They begged to be set free. I understand how they felt and I would hate being trapped in a body that didn't allow me to enjoy life. So far I have been quite fortunate to be able to do most of the things I enjoy. My daughters know how I feel and if I reach that point that I can not live comfortably and without major pain then I want the freedom to exit this life my own way. Namaste

I think euthanasia could be perform if the love ones are saying yes to it..Here in the Philippines, we also doing that but the doctors and nurses are calling the relatives if they wanted that their love one need to stop his suffering or not..I think euthanasia is not a sin because your only wanted to him to stop his suffering..And in practical means, the bill would become big..it's true, i mean it..

I agree! It the cost of keeping the patient going that really effects the survivors and if the patient is really suffering and not able to live a quality life then they should have their wishes met if they choose to end it. The pain can go on for a long time.

I didn't know that OR had that. We just moved to Washington (Vancouver, so we're right near OR). What I don't understand is this. We take a dog or a cat (or any other animal for that matter) to the vet, and the vet says hey, he's in pain. Let's put him down. And we do. WHY can't humans do the same thing? I mean, at least a human can say, hey, this hurts, I don't want to live like this, etc. Why should humans NOT have the right to die when THEY so choose? Why is it okay to put an animal out of it's misery, but not a human being?

I agree. It is always a political thing when the elections roll around. Oregon has had to fight to keep it. I will be sure to have it in my will and and other additional paperwork to guarantee that my wishes are met. I have sat with many people and eatched them suffer to the end. If it is not quality living then I want to check out. I am sure that God does not want any of us to suffer and society loves to place its views on our lives. I will make my choice and I will remain in Oregon if that is the way it has to be to have my wishes met. Thank you for your response!
