Suffering from cataract.

As you all know, cataract is a cloud that develops in the crystalline lens of the eye. The last time I paid a ophthalmology doctor a visit he could not classify the type of cataract I am suffering from since I could have it from birth or because of a trauma I have experience a few weeks after I've been given birth. He is not one hundred percent sure that the surgery will succeed, meaning that I might not be able to see with my left eye for the rest of my life. This is more like a personal issue but I would like to know your opinion about it. Should I attend the surgery or not? My mother keeps saying that I shouldn't go yet, but I am simply sick of this disease I will not be able to attend the police academy, which is my dream from the time I've been a little child, aswell as not being able to obtain a driving license. If I am going to reject the surgery I've been given a chance to attend, I can't have another one until next year, since this summer brake is the last one I can do the surgery, since the academy starts next year. I am way too frightened to do this because I am simply not aware what's going to happen, and the actual doctor which gave me the uninsurability statement is a military ophthalmology medical doctor, specialized in cataract domain.

You need an immediate ultrasonography to evaluate the posterior segment of the eye that is mainly to get idea at present of the retina. If that eye has any vision or at least projection of rays, you must go for a cataract surgery and it would definitely be wise to do it as early as possible. If that eye has not even any perception of light, cataract surgery would not help in restoring the vision but may help in prevention of any further complication. You should immediately consult with a reputed ophthalmologist in your area.
