She was okay in morning when she left home but i think daily going to office in this hot summers and sitting in cold ac rooms has taken its toll on my sweet sister. She ate at kfc as it was her office small party there on somebody's promotion, i thought she is tired that's why she went to sleep early , as i was watching tv , she came from her room and got the the bedcover from closet and went to her room and double folded it and covered herself with it , i was curious as its unusual as its quite hot today. I touched her head and its very hot , she is coughing too, she taking breathing like as if in pain. I have applied the vicks balm and given paracetamol tablet for her high fever after making her eat a bread with jam (i was afraid that i should give her something solid in her stomach so that medicine doesn't upsets her stomach) but don't know what else to do. I am feeling so helpless , just sitting beside her with this laptop. It's so strange how we can be so strong sometime but once somebody feels sick in family we suddenly become helpless.

Nice tips. Considering myself as a newbie in mylot it would be great help for me and to other newbies out there. Any other tips you can give?
Anyways, about your sister.. a simple back rub will help. And also ask her to dring lots of water too.

Just continue with the medication. Maybe she has the flu, because of the hot weather outside, and very cold air conditioning at our offices. Give her lots of water and a soft diet.
If she doesn't get better the next day, maybe she can go for a consultation with the doctor.
Just be there for her.

Yes, porridge is good for a sick person. with some chicken fillets and bits of young onions , it will surely be appreciated. We call porridge "lugaw" here in the Philippines and a popular, street food also, with different topping to choose from.
Nice to hear that your sister is doing fine already.

being sick sucks and being helpless about it sucks even more. the change in temperatures (from hot to cold and vice versa) has probably taken its toll on your sister. it's an attack in the immune system.
try to manage the fever by making her drink lots of water and a gentle rubdown using a damp cloth. a mega dose of vitamin c can help too. sometimes we neglect this vitamin but it is actually a big help in protecting our immune system.
let her sweat it out. sweating is good. just make sure you change her clothes before it dries on her. and continue to keep her hydrated with water and fruit juices.
if she is not up to taking solid food, just give her warm soups and biscuits. that can do the trick. warm liquids can be soothing for the stomach.
i used to rely on medicine whenever somebody in the family gets sick. but after attending series of health seminars i learned that since our body is self-healing and self-protecting, we just need to help our body heal itself.
i hope your sister gets well soon.
fevers usually last 3 days. colds and cough linger longer. her body needs rest, hydration and vitamin c... and lots of tlc.

Thanks a lot, these are great tips actually i also refrain from medicines but when it comes about family member then i try to be extra precautionary. She sleeping now , i will check her temp again when she wakes up , then probably make her tea and biscuit. Yeah i know vitamin c is good and i actually have it too.

I often feel that way when my daughter is sick. She has been off school for at least three days with a nasty cold and cough. It sounds as though your sister has a similar ailment. The best thing for her is rest, plenty of fluids and a trip to doctor in a day or two if she doesn’t improve. Of course lots of TLC is essential to a good recovery. Hope she gets better really soon,

Your sister's got a flu. Chicken soup is the best for that kind of illness. She needs complete rest and lots of vitamin c. Paracetamol only helps to subside the fever but won't be able to kill the flu virus. Give her some flu medicine instead plus let her drink lots and lots of water.

I am very sorry to hear that. I hope she gets to feeling better. I am dealing with sickness in my family too with my husband. I feel helpless also because the doctors do not know exactly what is causing his pain yet to treat it the right way to keep it away.

Since it has been 22 hours since you posted this I will assume that your sister is doing much better by now. If not, then maybe you should convince her to go to the doctor. Its always hard to know what to do when a loved one is sick. Most of the time if you go with your gut instinct as to what to give them and then wait it out for awhile, whatever the sickness is will usually subside. Your sister is fortunate that she has a loving sister by her side. Best wishes!
