How Do I Draw More Traffic To My Blog?

What leads to this discussion is that many people out their are looking for ways (or tips) to upgrade their blog and have at least five hundred readers (or viewers) daily to their blog.
It has really given me so much concern on how to do this.
Although recently a friend has given some helpful tips to increase traffic to my blog, which are:
1. By updating my blog regularly with new contents
2. By commenting and following someone's blog
3. By increasing my search engine ranking to improve the search engine traffic.
How do i increase my search engine ranking?
With all these stated above, how do i draw more traffic to my blog?
My follow lotters, i know there are some of you who have more experience in concern to blogging your advice count.... :/

Although I don't really work on traffic, I've gathered a lot of ideas from around the web. Search engine ranking is helped by SEO and having a higher PR, both of which are complex subjects. There are, however, a lot of easy, free ways to bring in a little bit of traffic and if you use enough of them I would imagine they'd help a lot. I recently posted a series of 4 posts on my blog (in profile) with 49 different ways to get extra traffic, so that might help.
If you're looking at SEO, I always suggest going to HubPages and searching for Peter Hoggan's profile. He has a 12-part free course there that's brilliant for beginners (and no, that's not a referral, I just think his work is incredibly simple and useful!).

He's great isn't he? I like the way he aims it at people who are beginners, without being all snobby about the fact that he knows a lot. His other work's very good and useful, too. Definitely a top-notch resource (and very generous with his knowledge).

I logon to hubpages in search of Peter Hoggan's profile, i was unable to find his profile....
