Hello fellow myLotters, I have heard from a few friends that if you were to sneeze with your eyes open, it would cause your eyes to pop out of your head. This sounds quite crazy to me. However, I am not sure if it is a true fact, or just a myth. What do you think? I am very interested to know if this is true, or false. Share your thoughts.

Yes, mine pop out all the time. I have come to enjoy this activity and sniff pepper when I'm out at a restaurant just so I can sneeze and watch my eye land in someone's dish. On a more serious note, really no, your eyes will not pop out of your head if you sneeze. Check out these links. http://health.howstuffworks.com/human-body/systems/eye/sneeze-with-eyes-open.htm http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/528/if-you-hold-your-eyelids-open-while-sneezing-will-your-eyes-pop-out

it's only a myth.... because eyes having a 5 (i think) muscles that attached from the eyeball up to it's based.... making it stronger to hold and not to drop that easily hahahaha i just remember what i heard from the book i read before that when you sneeze, you immediately say "God Bless You" because your spirit will instantly release or go out of the body because of the force of that sneeze, as saying that will make the spirit back to the body itself.....

i'll take it as a new information only, but not yet proven... as for the heart.... according to science, the heart doesn't stop function, it remains working as long as the human live.... but the heart too rest in a split microsecond between rest.....

It looks like some people are misreading the question.. It's if you sneeze with your eyes open. Well I have heard that it is not possible to sneeze while your EYES ARE OPEN.. Next time you sneeze, you will see that you automatically close your eyes. I've heard the force can cause your eyes to pop out, but who knows because I can't sneeze with my eyes open no matter how hard I try.

Yes, I have noticed that every time I sneeze, my eyes close as a reaction. However, I suppose one could hold their eyes open with their fingers. Even then, I doubt that their eyes will pop out. I think it is more likely that you would just break a blood vessel, like another user suggested.

I couldn't help but laugh out loud when i read your discussion. But on a more serious note, i don't think our eyes will pop out when we sneeze with eyes open. However, i will try to open my eyes, next time that i sneeze. Though, i have to cup my eyes with my hands just in case it pops out and fall.

The thing with this topic is that it is so true. This happened to my brother's girlfriend's aunt's twice-removed brother's now ex-wife. She is allergic to chili powder and so during an intense fight, her husband, my brother's girlfriend's aunt's twice-removed brother, put chili powder into her taco. Being a sniffer of food that she is, my brother's girlfriend's aunt's twice-removed brother's now ex-wife took a big whiff and sneezed her eyes out. Literally.

and why is it that many times Manny Pacquiao delivering a power punch to Margarito's Head, the eyes didn't pop out.... is sneezing more damaging compare to a powerful straight punch to the back of the head??? i now remember what Jose Rizal said before: "Pen is mightier than Sword"

One of the most weird things I’ve heard for sure…I’ve never really given a thought to this anytime before this discussion came up. I think it’s a natural reaction of the body that our eyes shut automatically everytime we force that sneeze out… but then I’m not even sure now if our eyes shut or remain open… I’m waiting now for my next sneeze

i dont think thats possible. you cant sneeze with your eyes open, even if you wanted to. :) sneezing is an involuntary thing, and closing your eyes while sneezing is an involuntary action as well. you can not control it. maybe if you try very hard it will pop out, not because of the sneeze but because you're going against its natural reaction. :p

this is true angelee. one time at band camp, one of the kids, let's call him angeloo, decided to show off and said that he can sneeze with his eyes open. everyone dares him to do so. come the big camp fire later that night, angeloo was called up front to show off his unique 'sneezing' talent. he said that he wasn't feeling 'sneezy' and decided to back off but the other kids egged him on and soon angeloo was given a piece of feather to tickle his nose so that he'll sneeze. not knowign how to get out of the situation, he did tickle his nose and soon after he sneezed but he couldn't pull it off. his eyes were closed during the time he was sneezing. finally, on the 2175th try, he was able to sneeze with his eyes open and much to the surprise (glee to some, dismay to others) angeloo's eyes popped out!!! in honor of angeloo's 'sneezing' act, a badge and the whole camp was named after him... the badge is 'sneeze king' and the was named camp angeloo anchoo!

That's an urban myth. There hasn't been any documented case of a person whose eyes popped out after sneezing with his or her eyes open. Also it's an automatic body reflex to close your eyes when you sneeze, so it's kinda hard trying to keep them open. It would be physically very unlikely for something like your eyes popping out to happen, anyway.

ha ha.... i dont think so...but a while sneesing all of our body parts stops for a millisecond. and yes i have heard it somewhere that its impossible to open the eyes while doing so...anyways eyes are important so y tk risk.....

I think it would be quite hard to keep your eyes open while sneezing, as usually, when you sneeze, your eyes automatically close as a reaction. To sneeze with your eyes open, you'd probably have to hold them open with your fingers!

Hi angel. Your friends are pulling your leg. It's impossible to sneeze with your eyes horn. Try it sometime when you have to sneeze. Even if you could sneeze with your eyes open your eyes wouldn't pop out. They are held by muscles and tendons so they stay in place. A doctor can remove them with the right tools for medical purposes but they are secure on their own.

Ha ha yeah I've gerd of it too, but I haven't heard of any actual reported cases, so I think its ok. I myself have tried to sneeze with my eyes open and just can't do it. No matter how hard I try they will still shut for a fraction of a second. But maybe if your sneeze was powerful enough and you tried to good your eyes open with your hands, you might break a blood vessel or something. I think that's a lot more possible than your eyes popping out.lol

Hi SilverVixen, I haven't heard of it actually happening either, only that it could happen. I agree, I think that breaking a blood vessel sounds more realistic that your eyeballs popping out of your head.

I am going to view the link provided as I somehow can't imagine the eyes popping out unless of course it is part of some debilitation. My first assumption was to say that it would have to be a might sneeze in order for the eyes to pop out. I will review the link and see how it is related.

No, your eyes don't pop out of your head if you sneeze with you eyes open. I know someone that didn't blink while she sneezed and she popped a blood vessel in her eye. It was really weird and I've never seen anybody else sneeze with their eyes open.
