Hello all!
I have a cake that is due on the 7th and I believe it's going to be for about 20 people. I'd like to do a 2-tier summer theme for girls and their mothers that is simple, colorful, and fun. My decorating skills are still considerably basic but I do like to push myself a little at a time.
What I will need from anyone who wants to contribute are links or perhaps some simple cake decorating ideas. I do want to do a practice cake so if you have some ideas, let me know!
Thanks for your imput!

A cute summer theme could be a beach. Use blue icing for the water and you can make it look like waves so you don't need to get it smooth. Use brown sugar for the sandy beach. You could maybe find some toys at the dollar store like a little umbrella, beach chair or a pail and bucket. I would look in the barbie section, her accesories are about the right size for a cake.

I know you want to create a 2 tier cake, but another fun summer idea is a flip flop. You could cut the cake into the shape of a flip flop and decorate as you desire. You could use Air Heads for the toe straps (I can't think of what else it would be called) and then to the straps, add a paper flower (or a real flower) and a jewel in the middle of the flower. I did make a beach themed cake one year and a pool themed cake and both were fun. I got the idea from Woman's Day magazine. Have fun with this! I have no doubt you will create something fun!
