Welcome to myLot!
Adding friends will not earn here. But adding friends will allow some to respond to your discussions and you to theirs. Remember when they respond they earn. You will only earn if you comment back to the responses with quality content.
I would suggest you take your time as you would want to assure you and friends have the same interests. I often say to new members that if you add a lot of friends and they do not have the same interests they will perhaps not be able to respond to your topics and you will feel ignored.
Therefore, it would be best to interact a bit and this way you can see how some members and you have similar interests.
Good luck and welcome aboard!

That is really good advice, HWG. Sometimes it can be difficult to find a discussion to respond to if you do not have a lot in common with many of the people on your friends list. That means that they will most likely have a difficult time responding to your topics as well. It does not help to have a ton of notifications for discussions that you cannot comment on, and it could actually hurt you by keeping from noticing discussions that they might be interested in and want to respond to if they are buried in a ton of notifiers.

So true! I do have 815 listed friends. Though all are not continually active, not nearly 1/4 of the ones that are active will respond to my own discussions. It is quite okay with me, but wonder why friend if I can't with lots of them return a comment back on their own discussions.
I do venture off with many others too who are not on my friends list, in fact there are tons that are not on my FR list yet we interact daily and can keep up with all update happenings through their discussions.
It is all in the interests, topic and my daily mood.

I cannot imagine having so many people on my friends list. I believe that I have between 200 and 300 friends on my list, and I can't keep up with all of them. Then again, I saw someone yesterday that had over 2,000 friends on their friends list ... yes, that is right over 2,000 and not one single post to his or her name!

As both previous responders have stated, adding friends in and of itself does not affect our earnings at all. It does give us the opportunity to increase our earnings by helping us to find discussions that we would be interesting in participating in, and it allows others with similar interests to be able to find our discussions more quickly.
We do not earn for responses that we get to our discussions, but each response gives us the opportunity to interact by commenting and counter-commenting with all the responders on our discussion. This interaction furthers the topic, and this gives everybody that participates the opportunity to increase their earnings.
Basically, it is not necessary to be "friends" with someone to participate in his or her discussion or have him or her respond on your discussion. When someone is on your friends list, however, you can choose to receive notifiers when he or she starts a discussion, which will allow you to find those discussions quicker, especially if you like the person's writing style and tend to be able to add to his or her discussions.

Thank you for posting that link here. That would have been a useful piece of information to include in my comment. It is a good thing I have friends like you to help me out when I slack!
