There is always going to be a certain challenge in trying to talk to someone who doesn't share your mother tongue. The challenge isn't or doesn't have to be in the topic of interest, but instead in trying to understand what is being said. If you can read and understand English enough to where you are not confused on what's being said, you shouldn't have trouble. Finding a topic of interest can be easy. The differences in culture can be a prime example of this. It may be a bit boring, but in the end you might learn something you didn't know about someone else. As you get to know the person to whom you're chatting, the topics and conversation becomes interesting and a lot easier. If you're having trouble, understand you're not alone and it's okay to ask for help or to ask someone to rephrase a question, or what was said in a way you'd understand it better.

Hello!I'm a Chinese too!We learn English in the school, but we hardly speak English in our life,so we can't learn it better like those who live in other countries. But it doesn't matter,we can practice by ourselves.Come on!!!Try your best to do it!!

Maybe if you practice harder you could get better with English, so far its not a hard language than compared to my language over here in our country, i bet your Chinese language is also hard with all those calligraphy. You can ask your friends for help if you get mixed up with words.
