Sometimes there are discussions in mylot that are so controversial you can't help but have an argument with the other members. I'm referring to a healthy argument though, but sometimes it tends to be heated that others cannot control their temper and as a result, negative rating sparks everywhere. I try to avoid controversial discussions but sometimes i'm just tempted, nevertheless, i still try not to get my personal emotion get in the way and just discuss or argue academically. And when it starts to heat up, yes i'm tempted to fight back, but then i told myself that i have already stated my point and there's no way i should let my emotion rule over my opinion.

Some people in myLot will refuse to respond to controversial posts because they fear losing their red or blue star. This is not good for myLot and its not good for the responder either. Some of us do not care what color our star is because we are so honest we always say it like it is. (My star has been at 7 for over 4 years) Its good for myLot to let your emotions go once in a while. Say what you think and may the devil take the hinder most!

I love the way you putt right may the devil take the hinder most! Done it already and I think I tried to put up a good fight, but I'm not the person who would attack another personally. However I do get pissed off when I'm being attacked personally!

hey, i think you dont need to worry about that. Mylot is a good place to communicate, to chat with others. and sometimes it is unavoidable that your post is involved with your emotion. i think it is normal. for me, i will not give others a negative rating just beacuse i am tempered or i dont agree with his/her opinion. there is nothing wrong to express your own opinion.

Don't I know it!I avoid such topics like the plague. I never in my wildest dream thought that there would be situations when users deliberately misunderstand what you have said and open a topic on that subject and you are attacked left, right and centre. But this experience has taught me a thing or two which has helped me tread cautiously here.

The sad part is even after clarifying they will go on and on and if the leader of the gang is involved that is yet another story.

Exactly why i'm trying to be careful. In fact one time i started the discussion about moderators in other site and not mylot but one mylotter berated me and told me that i should not be here and mylot and he threatened to report me to mylot admin. I don't know why he was so mad when i wasn't even talking about mylot moderators but moderators who were very incompetent in other sites.

Well, we can argue over some controversial discussions. But we should see to it that we don't try to intimidate others into believing our arguments. What we can only say is , "this is my opinion and some facts that i have gathered". We are here to share our opinions but not to insist them.

I do agree on that one. But some people just don't know how to respect others opinion i guess.

I think it's normal for some discussions to get a little heated if they deal with controversial topics, and sometimes contradictions can lead to progress and even to positive effects,as long as there's a limit which isn't broken.I didn't have such heated arguments on Mylot with anyone, but if it happened I would definitely try to chill out and get out for a while rather than post something I would regret later.

Well everyone has their own point of views and mylot has helped people to post their own opinion towards anything. It's just a matter of growing up regarding your reaction from the opinions of your co-mylotters. YOu just need to respect each other's point of view as we have all different minds. Having a healthy argument can help you expand your knowledge and to have an open mind.

toniganzon as long as others do not insult my own opinion I will always respect their ideas but a few here try to hit you over the head with their opinion and tell you yours is stupid., that I will not fight with 'they just get deleted as I will not let anyone tell me I am stupid and all wrong for not agreeing with them.we are all supposed to be able to argue something with respect and dignity not with insults.I just turn the insulting over to mylot admins and let them decide.I ever negative anyone for insulting all I do is report them. if its bad enough for a minus just report it.

The very object of participating in discussions is to express ones considered opinion on the subject matter. At times the topic could generate serious differences of opinion. Since all the contributors are expected to abide by the rules of mylot, one can become aggressive within the purview of the guidelines. Otherwise face the axe. That's it. One cannot complain. If one is not happy with the way the discussion is developing, and touches the instinct of anger, best to avoid joining there. It is wiser that way than acquire the negative rating.

I understand - that if there is no controversy discussions are less. But it is advisable not to take to heart what is being told and take it sportively. Touch wood - 50 + days - I have not had anything to make me lose my sleep-- have a good day.

I know a conversation can get really heated up but it is better to keep your calm! It will only prove wrong for you!
