You should not be concerned with your ranking just yet.
You should be more concerned with how to start, respond and comment on discussions so that other people will be rating you with plusses - and then your ranking will increase automatically.

The ranking show how appreciated is your activity in a particular interest. You have to be very active in that interest and your posts must be of quality in order to be rated positively by all the users that read them.
This way you'll see the ranking changing to better.
