Do movies influence people's minds into doing things they wouldn't normally do?

In my opinion I think any sort of movie to any age can influence anybody, anyone. Young girls watch tennage films and think for example Id like to be popular, i want to be a cheerleader and so on, this obviously being completely harmless. But when watching the wrong typr of movie such as action, thriller or horror do these and can these actions and imagination go one step further? Personally I think yes, I think people are inspired by anything and even if that means harming another human being. me personally horrors are my favourite and having been watching them since I was a young teenager but have never fel the need or urge to kill someone but other people think completely different and have more of a phsychotic nature or personality. so my question to anyone and movie lovers is, does movies influence people's minds into doing things they wouldn't normally do? Comments and opinions please.

You are right. Movies and news affects people who watch and read them. Since every individual is different and unique, so are their perceptions. That's why some people would only copy the good things but others would adjust their lives to the bad things they saw or heard. So, we should be careful in letting children and teenagers watching certain movies.

I think it all depends on the age and the movie. I heard news once that a couple of young kids watched a Beavis and Butthead show and later on dropped a bowling ball off a roof of a building crushing child in its stroller.. when the children were questioned why they did it they said they saw Beavis and Butthead do and nobody got hurt. Now whether this is true or not I have no idea, but it at least makes you question what type of movies children should watch. Adults know better, or at least should know better that a movie is for entertainment only.. though some good inventions and romantic relationships come from them... harmless..
Hope this makes sense.. its just my opinion.

Some people responded that it depended on the movie; That isn't true. It depends on he person. A 13 year old could watch a movie like Mean Girls & start being mean and stuck-up, but if a girl just likes movies like that, which I personally do, they wouldn't act. It depends on the person's situation, age, and what kind of person she\he wants to be.

I Strongly think that people are inspired by the movies they watch, lets take an example say the TITANIC movie where true love was shown, iam sure people who had watched this movie could have realized their worth of love, coming to the movie of pearl harbor which influences love for the country, this truly symbolizes what it shows in the movie. Thus there are such sort of movies that influences people, basically what happens is when people watch movies their minds are been driven by the story they watch also they try to correlate with their life in some situations. For example There may be movies that influenced people on not wasting food and giving example of African people who starves of food, So concluding i feel that movies inspire people's mind a lot.

Surely you see worse stuff on the news sometimes now aday then you do on a movie. Like the man who beheaded a english women abroad! Not something you want your kids seeing but I wnat my son to know and understand what goes on in the world, but within reason. Bombs being set off everyday, war being the answer to everything. Just as bad a certain movies in my opinion

Children are the ones greatly influenced by movies. So it is a must that they be guided on what to watch, in their growing years. Added to that, they should be cautioned about things being done in movies , that are far from real.

What about whats on the new as this is real? You cannot caution on something that trully happens.

I think that sometimes, people don't realise that movies aren't 100% real all of the time, and they may try to do things that they have seen characters do on the television. I find that when I watch romantic comedies at the cinema, they put me in a very romantic mood and then I feel very let down by it when I get home and realise that life isn't ever going to be as perfect as it is for people in the movies. It is nice to be able to escape to the world of movies though, as sometimes life might seem as though it's getting too much for you, and you might be able to find a lot of comfort in another world at that time.

yes!especially children, they will idolize the main character of the movie and that they will do what they saw in the movie. that's why some children grow being so rude and stubborn because of wrong type of movies they watched. I guess this is much concerned with their parents who are not guiding them correctly.

But then surely we could say my parents didn't guide me in that sense as i was watching horror films from like the age of 11 and they have never ever affected me.

There are people who are more easily influenced than others. Children being the most impressionable. That being said...I am not going to go so far as to say that a grown adult who does something wrong can blame it on a movie they saw. If a person is not a murderer, or does not have it in them, watching a movie about mass murder is not going to suddenly make them one.

WellI believe an adult can blame it on a movie as much as a child could because there are adults claiming they are criminally insane everyday to getaway with various crimes and the system is so stupid that they believe it, so I think they could get away with blaming it on a movie. The thing is, nobody can say what they have in them, because certain things trigger certain parts of the brain.

just like music, movies are art, and art sometimes imitates life.movies can be influential to those who are vulnerabel mentally, the same as with music.

i think yes i can be dangerous in some situations. I am from the uk and a few years ago there was a murder case here where a little boy disappeared and it turned out he was murdered by two slighly older boys because they were copying chuckie out of the movie Halloween.
