I'm on a higher position with a higher salary but I dont let money slip through my fingers, I'm saving money for my future. I notice a lot of the agents with smaller salary spends money forever, they have new clothes every week, they eat in the expensive restaurants everyday and always go to bars. This is a job with no assurance and people gets fired every month, its a job with no assurance but they were spending like millionaires.

hello capt,
That I too did not understand why they were doing such thing.
I remember my team mates, going to here and there and everywhere.
That is one reason I left the job...my sup is always complaining why I don't go with them..she keep saying that there are things that the team cannot express during a huddle in office..that they can discuss outside (it's not a team building eh)
and then threatening me...
okay fine...our team is always number one...for what I reason, that I knew so well.
I don't know why companies are not checking why agents come and go and why they are losing satisfied customers...
and why these companies spending too much with newly hired ones when they can have regular agents
they just need to see the real problem with AHT,QA and CSAT...(If only clients know)

Their way of team building is to get rid of their salary, its like a race, the first one to lose all their earnings win. About firing people, they wanted fast learners I guess thats why they fire people monthly. & years ago they accept highschool grads, they dont anymore. I'm a highschool grad and I surpassed a lot of college grads,

Yep! I noticed this too. These call center agents life revolved on taking on calls and partying after. Some even spend greater than what they are really getting. A big factor in here is that the culture of call center agents have grown into a leisurely type of life. Stressed on their work, they almost always want to have fun after. The bad thing is that they just spend all of what they earn, hence, they don't have savings or they go broke all the time. Plus, the pressure on socializing and be "in with the group" are getting to quickly on their heads. It really is sad to see them just so carefree with their money and in the end go crazy trying to find money. Harsh reality among call centers but is completely true.

Dat mentality, they go to those morning bars to party until thdir wallets are empty and they also have that obsession to follow fashion and be in. they act like highschool students with big allowance. I lost a lot of my friends in the off8ce and I realized its not bad at all. They need to save some of their hard earned.

One of them is currently broke and his salary is damn decent because he swipes the plastic a lot. Then there is this female agent who gets robbed 3 times for dressing like a heiress and having a jewelry overload. I was able to buy some expensive stuff but not daily. nothing is wrong with luxury if you will not run out of money.

They always want to fit in and feel like filthy rich. Very bad that they don't know that the secret of the rich people is financial management and living well below their means. Well, I hope those friends of yours learned their lesson. It's just unfortunate for them to learn them the hard way.

hey what's up capt?
been a while man. how are you? hope you're doing great.
going to your discussion, yes the 'one-day millionaire' mentality is prevalent not just among call center agents but among those who are not financially educated enough to know how to save. once they get their paychecks and once they receive their salary, they splurge and spend like there is no tomorrow. usually, the money is spent on trivial things like new clothes or gadgets. like what you said, they eat out at expensive restaurants, have over-priced cups of coffee, or drink away their money in bars... really sad.
every time i get my salary, i usually check my budget and make sure that i adhere to it. i make sure that i spend at least 40% of what i get and the other 60% goes to my every day expenses and monthly expenses like paying utility and credit card bills. i also make sure that i spend within my means and not to overspend and end up broke. i also try to check my expenses and see what area i can save on. a good example is in transportation, i usually make sure that i take an ordinary bus instead of an air-conditioned one as it is less expensive. the fare for the ordinary bus is only half the fare for an air-conditioned one so the savings i get i either stash away in my savings account or piggy bank (yes, i still save coins and occasionally bills, in a piggy bank i share with my daughter. i'll discuss about this in another thread) or use it to pay off another expenditure.
anyway, ultimately, i hope that everyone will learn to save wisely and spend smartly.

@ binggaling, yeah ordinary buses are faster than the air-conditioned ones but it can be really uncomfortable taking one so i guess that's where the difference in fare lies. also agree about your comment about commuters in ordinary buses. they deserve a thread of their own. lol!
@ capt, glad to know that you got yourself a set of wheels to drive around the city. was never excited to have a car of my own as i prefer to just sit back and enjoy my commute. anyway, maybe in the near future i'll think about getting my own car but as of today, i'm glad just taking the bus, jeep, or train to get through one place to another.

1 day millionaires, yes thats the best way to describe them, going to starbucks when the office provides limitless free coffee. once they got into depth, they will ask me to lend them some cash, though it will make me look like a bad person, I won't let them because I want them to learn how to save. Just because they have big salary it doesnt mean they can be happy go lucky. they were the reason why snatchers and robbers find them as potential targets because of their uber luxurious lifestyle while they are not rich and will never be rich.I'm like the only one with car from my batch because they dont save money.

its been a long time since I rode a bus and a train.
I have a car now, it looks like a car that car jackers wont steal because its so ugly but the engine is good and the air conditioning is very cool. it needs to have some paintjob. the backseat , needs to be replaced, even Rebecca Black wont take it,thats how ugly my car is but I dont give a damn. I saved money because of it.

I actually encounter a lot of agents who do that. They are like millionaires when they receive their salary but after a few days, they will become very thrifty to the point that they are not eating that much anymore. It is a good thing that you are saving your money and I admire you for that. But for call center agents, I pretty much get it why they actually like to spend spend spend until they are already penniless. The work, for some, is very very very stressful and to compensate for all those stress, they spend their money a lot but not wisely enough.

Its really a psychologically draining job. I'm saving money so I can retire earlier and leave that brain drying job. I want a carefree job with no pressure.

Perhaps u are USA. Now this trend has come down. This was the main reason on account of which sub-prime crisis came and affected the world. People resorted to buying on credit card and not repaying it properly. Now the message has gone to a good number of people and I find shops are not that very busy nowadays -except on saturdays and sundays.
One must save at least 20% of his salary (in India we save 10/12 1/2% as provident fund) balance as life insurance, bank deposits. But one need not save more than 40%. Of course in USA inflation is less so it is worth saving. We need to have maximum 7 pairs of dresses and there is no need to have more than this. But the trend among younger generation is they have more than 30 pants, shirts etc.

Apparently I'm from a 3rd world country but my employers are from the US, Its a high paying job but its too cut throath, brutal snd stressful. People who fail to perform gets fired, they don't know what tomorrow brings and they act like spoiled brats with rich parent when they are not rich to begin with.

It makes me extremely angry when people do that; it's ludicrous to not save up for security in the future. However, it's their life, and they can do as they please. But if they are so willing to burn money, why not make donations to people like us? Haha.

Seems to me that you have figured out some important life lessons, like saving for the future or saving for a rainy day. Congratulations. Some people never learn.

hi CaptAlbertWhisker this reminds me of the childhood story of the ant and the grasshopper. ant was like you saving food for the winter while grasshopper was off playing and not laying up any food. so come winter grasshopper ran out of food and went to beg some from the Ant. the thrifty ant If I remember the tale told him essentially "Go take a hike."
You are so right , if one is in a job with no assurance of being on it for a long period spending foolishly is really stupid. You have the right idea and sound like you have a level head on your shoulders.Saving
money for the future is always so wise and here in the US if one has any kind of job stay in it and save whatever you can as there are far fewer jobs here than there are people looking for them. It is no time to be a prima donna and quit y our job, stay on it until the job market changes. this might be one year or more, nobody seems to know here in the US.

I have 2cplans for my future to make sure my life will be much more easier for long term. Its harder to find a high paying job in a3rd world country. they have salaries many people can only dream and they dont give a damn about it. they have the privileges of a decent income but they were milking their salaries dry for not so important things.

It's nice to know that you are a wise spender and you save some for the rainy days.
Funny, but some people are really like that. They spend beyond their means. Before they knew it , they are already so heavily indebted to others or to their credit cards.
When the time comes , they will be left with nothing but debts. How pathetic!

I love enjoying the present too and being wild and free but I realized the unpredictability of the industry. Its a job with no assurance. not saving will hurt them big time in the future.
