I was not in mylot for days because my son was hospitalized. I could say it would be the hardest days i have been through. I had to give up work for days to be with him. Thursday last week, i have to leave work abruptly because my mom called and she said the fever does not go down 38 celcius and i did rushed home and had his blood taken for tests. his platelet count was so low, it was only 100 where the normal is 140.. but my hubby said we should observe him first and see how he is in the morning.
That night, my son was fine and in the morning he even started playing that i was even preparing to go to work..but when we were about to leave for work, he cried and said that his nose was bleeding. I thought it was a normal nose bleed..but the blood was not stopping..i had to keep my mind focused because i was panicking. so we rushed him to the hospital, and had him confined. Tests were done and his platelet went as low as 60.. he was inactive and was just there lying..and all he said to me was.."mama, i just want to sleep" and everytime he say that, i cried. It was like a knife in my heart.. and i keep on whispering to him if only mama could take his place i would. He stayed at the hospital for 4 days.. and well the bill was also heartbreaking..but i really did not care. My son even got used to the injections and taking of the blood.. it was painful because he was trying to be brave.
it was the time where me and hubby had to overcome our emotions and pain so we could stand strong beside him, the results came and he was diagnosed with Dengue, from a mosquito.. and we were thinking it is impossible he got it from home because we make sure there is none. I was thinking it must be at school which reminds me to go and talk to the administrator.
Seeing my son like that was painful, even my daughter was sad because of this, she even helped in her own little way making drawings for her brother..and me and hubby was able to go through this helping each other out.
Now, i am swearing no one of my 3 kids will go through this again.. never.

That is so scary. I am glad you got him to the hospital for care. I find it hard to keep all mosquitoes out. I have heard of dengue, but I am not familiar with the details of it. I am still very glad that you are getting him medical help.

I read about it now, and I see where the type where they get low platelets is a dangerous type.

it gets dangerous when platelets get that low.. and i learned one thing also, they were giving him vanilla ice cream because they said it increases the blood platelet!

Hi!
That's really unfortunate and really sad. I can almost understand how you must have felt during that time even though I don't have kids of my own yet. But I do have a little niece and nephew who occasionally get confined in the hospital because of illness. My nephew was also stricken with dengue before and it was really a hard time for us. But there was not a time when his nose bled. His high fever just wouldn't stop. And my mother decided to take him to the hospital. He was confined for a few days. My sister, my nephew's mother, had to absent from her work to take care of his son.
Anyway, I'm glad that your son is doing better now. We can never be too careful but we can always do our best. God bless.

Thank you Lord he was ok now.. It was really sad and it is alarming.. If you hadn't take him to the hospital, he might be gone.. Dengue is really dangerous... I'm happy that your son is fine now..
My sister had experienced that also and she was brought to the hospital when she was little.. That time, I think I am around 9 years old and I was always left in our house with my cousin..

Glad his fine now. I also had dengue fever twice. It was not easy at all seeing my parents worry so much. Plus the hospital bills were too much for us to handle. They say if you get the dengue virus the 3rd time, it'll be a critical one. I hope and pray it won't happen again. I am glad your son is fine now. All is well!

yes i was thinking that he will not be getting in the future like your system gets immune! but i was wrong when i was reading about it..you could get it more than once...and the next ones will be harder and much more critical..how scary that is why i am making sure they wont get mosquito bites.. i am getting them equipped with vitamins to make their system strong plus i am also giving them insect repellants!

Jazel my son had been hospitalized for a week when he was five years old due to that tropical mosquito and every time a large needle is used to extract blood from his arm my little boy never uttered a word. He just shed his tears while I hug him so close to lessen the pain and he endured it for daddy is there to comfort him. As a new father at that time I felt the same way too something similar to your words 'knife in my heart' and I think every parent at myLot experienced that too. Well, my son is thirteen now and is as tall as his daddy. I have just dropped him at his school this morning before logging in to myLot. What a great thing to remember the courage of my young boy fighting an ordeal of his life. In our country alone there were 465 deaths mostly young children as of September 2010. So guys please follow the guidelines set by your local health office to minimize the risk brought by this deadly mosquito.Have a wonderful weekend to all of you.

yes it is indeed a knife in the heart..and it is sad that as young as they are, they are trying to be brave.. and it makes you want to hug them more and if only you could take away the pain you would.. i was really heartbroken that time and sad because all i could do was watch him and encourage him..but not totally take all the pain away.

hi jaxel___juan I missed you.Yes its really so hard when one of your own children are ill and you feel so helpless. I mean we moms can fix little hurts b ut some kinds of illnesses make our children have to be hospitalized and we feel really helpless. Kids are so vulnerable and we are so used to helping them, then to get in a situation where you
have to just sit and wait, well its really so hard.Dengue fever I
have heard of and know it is carried by mosquitoes but I do not
know much else about it at all.I am so sorry for you and your son
and hope he is feeling much better by now.

It is horrible to see our children go through things like that. I have often said that if I could be in pain in the place of my children I would choose to do so without even having to think twice about it. You should go and talk to your son's school because school is supposed to be a place where children are safe, and it is important that you are happy when he goes to school. I wouldn't worry about it being your fault though because it isn't. We can't save our children from danger all of the time, it just isn't humanly possible. We just have to be there for them when they need us and offer a base of support from which they can explore the world.

hello jazel,
I can relate to this one my dear.
4 years ago when my son was also been a dengue victim.
Having all the test ,injection and taking blood samples every 4 hours gives me pain.
The blood count is going lower each tests and I also feel like dying with every result.
On the 3rd day of his confinement blood suddenly comes out from his nose that really made me panicked and cried a lot.
I am almost cursing the doctor for not giving my kid the early possible treatment ,why not give him the platelet transfusion and why wait for the blood count to go down for the extent low count.
I dare them to give me a weaver and I will signed to get out from that hospital and take my child to another one.
I called some help from media...and soon as they are hearing me calling someone...they were rushing for emergency actions.
They had my son with platelets transfusions and made me calm down.
that was one of the longest hour in my life...I bet I could deal with anyone and dare whoever is in front of me that time.
After that incident, the doctor came to talk to us and explained everything.
Okay...my son survived...the thing is,what if I never did a scene and never been hysterical..will they give me my son those emergency actions?
why can't they just provide proper and immediate action before worst happen.
Not to mention it's one of the most reputable hospital in the country.
I hope your son is doing well now and in safe condition my friend..
Take care always...and be safe too

yes he is doing fine now and recovering, back to his old active self.. which is a bit funny because i used to scold him for being so active and so naughty..but now, i just let him be because it is much painful to see him timid and inactive..
well, the good thing with my son's case was the pedia immediately ordered to transfuse plasma right away to avoid further problems. IT is sad because our medical care really is bad, i have seen the situation in public hospitals and at times even in private hospitals, if you do not have the means..the money they will not entertain you! i hate public hospitals because the nurses are even that "maldita"!they forgot they are public servants.

That's the problem with schools, either public or private, they need to have a steady sanitary and other clean maintenance to prevent getting sick like. you should asked him how and where is he playing and studying, is the school's classrooms air conditioned? he should avoid dirty areas of the school where mosquitos are possibly present.

well he is 4 and i do not think it matters to him on where he goes..hhaha as long as he can play, he does not care of the mosquitoes! that is why i make it a point now to have insect repellants and i am teaching him how to apply it even in school.. i believe it is in school because he does not go anywhere except school, at home and my mom's home which i also do not think they have it there because my mom is a neat freak.

Hi jazel_juan, I am sorry to hear of your son getting sick and was hospitalized. I am very happy to hear that he is doing well and a speedy recovery. I have never heard of this disease but I am going to research it. I pray that this never happens again to any of your children. Is there a vaccination they can get to prevent this from happening again? If so I hope that your children will be able to get it. Be Blessed and have a good day.

There is no vaccine for this Chevee..it is from a mosquito..do search for it, its pretty common in tropical country like here in Philippines. I am just doing preventive measure like putting insect repellant lotion on them

Dengue? Oh that's a disease that can kill. It's a good thing that you have brought him to the hospital at the soonest.
Yes, money is not a bother, if it is the lives of your love ones that will be compromised. You could earn money , but you can never replace the life of a love one.
I hope that your son will fully recover soon!

Yes i was actually crying when he was at the emergency room when they were putting the IV and dextrose in his hands because he was feeling the pain of the needle when they poked him in his right hand..and the nerve was not hit..so they had to redo it in his left hand..so he was pretty much in pain and i was crying by the side while the nurses where holding him,.
