Of course it hurts! It's a handful of needles vibrating through your skin at a bazillion RPMs LOL But I've noticed over time as I talk to more people who have tattoos that males will tell you it hurts a lot more than females will. Most of my girl friends who have tattoos compare it to a mild sunburn or a cat scratch whereas my guy friends say it's the worst pain ever. So take that into consideration. heh
The area where you are thinking of getting it is great for a first time. Very fleshy, not a lot of nerves. Areas where the bones are very close to the skin (elbows, feet...) hurt a lot more and places that have a lot of nerve endings (hips, the back of your upper arm/tricep, calf) hurt more...and weird. I have one on the back of my calf and I felt more pain in my arm than I did in my leg. That whole theory about rubbing your thumb to get rid of a headache... yeah, nerves are weird. HAHA

Think carefully about where you are putting the tattoo. Those that may be visable when in a nice dress or top can change someones opinion of you if you are trying to impress. Tattoos are for life usually and that will be there for a long long time. I have got one on my fool so it can be hidden if needed or shown off when i want.
