What's the worst injury you have had, and how did it happen?

Someone asked me that. I could not remember the date but it was one morning and I just had forced my self to wake up because I was going to work. It's always a routine that upon waking up, I'll have a cup of coffee. That morning, I was still sleepy and went to the kitchen. The thermos bottle was already full of hot water, courtesy of my son. I did not notice that I opened the thermos full where I should have opened it just a little to let the hot water out of the nozzle. But as I said, I was too sleepy and while I was holding my cup with my left hand, my right hand lifted the thermos to pour the hot water into the cup. I was shocked that a big rush of water came from the opening of the thermos down to my left hand. Ouch!!! I'll skip about the panic and the things I did because of shock. My left hand suffered a first degree burn and I had to take a leave of absence for a week. What is your story?

Well, I ahe had many injuries!! But I guess the worst one was when I had a wreck and a bus hit my car. It actually hit my door popping it open and sending me flying out into the guardrail. I don't know how many stitches I had in my head but the nurse told me she stopped counting at 99! I didn't break anything but I sure was bummed up and bruised for a very long time!

OMG! am speechless, felt suddenly scared because there was an incident where a huge truck collided with our car. luckily my husband was not hurt but the owner of the truck had to pay for the repair of the hood.

oh my G macdinggolinger ow you could have been killed, you were so lucky but I bet you did not think so for a very long time. I had a fall three years ago and smashed my shoulder bones in my left shoulder. I thought of course it can be set and will just take six weeks to heal no no no they could not set granules of bone so had to have a shoulder joint replacement so now I am actually a bionic woman but sadly even with months of physical therapy I did not get back but little of the movement of my left arm. I was shocked that I could not even comb my hair with my left arm or fasten my bra but I learned to cope and thats the way it will remain the rest of my life. I bet you were in the hospital for quite a long time too.Did you have any further problems with your head?

Actually, I was only in the hospital about 4 days. But I was mostly in bed for about 6 weeks. I had several other injuries that had to heal, but nothing too serious. I tore a muscle in my leg that still has a big knot in it and my left foot turned black but no one could figure out what was wrong with it.. it still hurts me in the winter time though! I also have a little trouble with my back since it got twisted when I hit the guardrail... but that was about it!!

I know this is kind of late already. But I read in an email one time that in case of accidents like the one you just had, dipping the burnt part in flour for 10 minutes will relieve one of the pain that comes after getting burned. People also say that your skin will be burnt-free if you dip it in flour for at least 10 minutes.

I was a pretty accident-prone child, and I'm still probably the clumsiest person I know. It's often entertaining, but occasionally quite painful. I still have a scar on my brow from when I was about four or five. My sister and I decided it would be fun to swing each other around - that is, until she bashed my head into our mother's coffee table. I'm lucky the corner didn't hit an inch lower and put out my eye. Most of my fingers have been fractured at some point from rough-housing and slamming them in doors. My knee was wrenched so badly at 17 or 18 that I couldn't put weight on it for a month or two and I still have problems with stairs, especially when it's cold out. Also at 18, I accidentally sliced the tip of my thumb off. My sister (the same who smashed my head) duct-taped it back on quickly enough that it fused back together, though the fingerprint was crooked for a while. I was in shock all night, with fever and chills. I'm not sure if this one counts as an injury, but I also had a large cyst lanced (a few inch cut with a scalpel) without any pain meds - that was even more excruciating than labor, but cheaper than actual surgery :D

I don't mind them at all. They make interesting stories of what NOT to do and I've got a pretty high pain-threshold, so it never really feels as bad as it looks or sounds. Not for long anyway.

oh my Princelierocks let me give you a soft grandmotherly shake here. where was your bike helmet young man? my son had an accident like yours and he too was not wearing a helmet. he also hit his head, had a concussion and was taken to the er and also had stitches. He went and bought the best safest helmet he could find and wears it religiously as he likes to bike a lot. he is an adult not a kid, at that time I think he was 38 or 40 but now he never bikes without the helmet. Does this suggest anything to you, mylot friend?bingskee yep God is good. still it would help Princelierocks to get a helmet.

My worst injury happened when I was eight years old. I was in the third grade and I was at my backpack at school getting my library book out of it when there was a scuffle in the front of the line in my classroom. This caused two of the kids in the class to knock over a filing cabinet which fell on my leg. This resulted in my ankle being broken through the growth plate and my leg broken in another place. I had to have surgery to have the broken part of my ankle put back in place.

My worst injury would be when I slipped in the bathroom. I was in high school then. I was already in my uniform when I decided to pee before going to school. Everything happened so quickly. I was walking toward the door when suddenly I slipped on the wet bathroom floor and hit my head on the bath divider/gutter. I think I lost consciousness for a moment and then I heard my mom calling my name. I stood up and walked out of the bathroom. I didn't think I was hurt until I felt something warm on my shoulder, then I saw the warm blood trickling through my hair from my head. I was absent for 3 days. To this day, I can still run my fingers through the scar on my scalp. It's pretty small now (just a slit) but enough to remind me to be careful when in the bathroom.

I suffered a prolapsed disc from slipping from the stairs. I landed four steps down. I had to undergo surgery for it. Was a pretty painful time from the moment the symptoms manifested (2 months after the accident) till my parents finally took me to the hospital. Harrowing and excruciating.

hi bingskee if ever anything like that happens again get to your sink turn on the cold water and let it run onthat hand as if would have saved you from the first degree burn. or if your child or one of your family gets burned with hot liquid immediately pour the coldest water you have over it so it stops the burning and blistering ouch makes myskin hurt just thinking about it. just thinking most home kitchen accidents happen when we are tired either getting up or ready for bed, probably our minds are not thinking as clearly so we are vulnerable. Feb 15 day after Valentines day in the evening at dinner, early here at pm. I was complaining how boring life was here then said well I have a bag of lays potato chips and ice cold sugar free rootbeer so i shall go up stairs and enjoy them. I was very careless thinking only about my lovely snack that I would not get to eat for 20 days. bam I did not see a small pool of liquid on the tile floor. My feet went out from under me and I fell face down.I broke my nose, blood poured from my nose and above my right eye but worse I injured my knee badly.worse was to0come as I was taken at once to the ER where I was x- rayed on my right side as my right knee and ankle and wrist and shoulder all hurt badly but no bones were broken okay but nobody in that ER ever thought to ask me to walk. so was brought home via ambulance and when I tried to walk from the gurney to my bed I shrieked with pain as my right knee was badly injured, so the next morning when the medical person here learned I could not even walk to the bath room I was taken to my doctors hospital E.R. and then sent to a rehab hospital where it took 20 days of extensive physical therapy to enable me to walk and I am still having pain in that knee but at least with the help of the damned walker I can walk again.just five careless minutes and still hurting some. It has changed my life a lot, from quad cane to walker humiliating for me.Two things I want to point out, when you spill liquid on a tile floor wipe it up before someone steps in it and falls. it can happen in seconds and the results last and last. Also when you really hurt and cannot use a limb arm knee leg tell the authorities at once so they can check for other injuries besides broken bones.

I think mine was when I was so little that I made my knees broken while playing in my garden. I think that will be the most or to say the worst injury I had.

I can still remember this as if it had just happerned yesterday. i think sometimes an incident is so traumatic to our lives that a piece of it can still stay with us over the years. i was late for dinner and twelve years old. i was racing my bike down a concrete hill and hot my shoelace caught in the chain. i tried to get loose and ended up skidding down the hill on my knee. i can still remmeber crying when i got home. i thought i had nearly torn all the skin from my knee. It was pretty bruised up but i lived to tell the tale.

Oh dear, that is shocking, and painful. Sorry that this had happened. But accidents are accidents. In 2008, when I was hit by Arthritis, there were so many medical tests, and one of them revealed that my left knee is damaged because of something that happened ages ago - I dont remember the year it happened but I think it was well before I was 5 years. I have a faint memory of these graphite chips piled up(for some construction work) and me as a kid playing them, climing and sliding down. During one of these slides, one of these smaller chips got into my knee. There was a hell of bleeding and I was taken to the doctors who removed the piece that got in. And till today, I have that mark on the knee. In 2008, these tests revealed that this chip had torn out some nerves and also drained out some liquid(I forget what they called it medically) but it is the one that is supposed to cushion the bones in the joints. Though I was still young, this should have been replenished and remade by the body but somehow that didnt happen. And when the Arthritis affected, it found a weaker place to survive

Mine was in grade school, 5th grade. I was messing my classmate's hair in the school' quadrangle until she got mad. When she turned her head withan angry face, I stood up to get away. When I was starting to take the 3rd step, blam! My sight turned black. When I opened my eyes, I was facing the floor with blood dripping from my nose. I found after days that a 4th grader who was running bumped me from my back. I had a fractured nose but thankfully my father let it be fixed by a doctor.

I was injured when I was a high school student. It was actually similar like yours, I think I was too sleepy at that time. It was morning and I was preparing myself to school. I was eating breakfast with a hot chocolate drink. For some reason that I didn't know, the cup of hot chocolate drink spilled on my legs and it was so hot! My skin got boiled because of that and until now I have the scar of it. Too bad for me! :(

I got another injury just last week! I guess I was overcrowded with so many things in my mind and I didn't know what I was doing. I was drinking coffee in my office and after finishing my cup of coffee, I felt thirsty that I wanted to drink cold water. I poured in my cup with hot water from the electric water dispenser, but to my mind, I was thinking that I was pouring my cup with cold water. When I drank it, like I was drinking a cold water, my tongue got really hot because of that. Funny but it happened to me. So I hope that you will be mindful of what your doing to avoid injury like this.
