It was only 2 days back when I realized that in order for me to somehow save electricity in charging my mobile phone, I should turn it off at night during sleeping time. Since, it is already late at night and generally all of my friends are already sleep during that time. And then, I will just turn it on the next day since, I need to use it. At the same time, my friends and colleagues can able to call and send me sms during that time.
How about you fellow mylotters, do you always left your mobile phone open or do you turn it off when you are about to sleep at night?

I do not turn off my mobile phone at night
I do not think it uses up significant amount of power when on standby overnight. Besides, there might be an emergency so friends and relatives would be able to call me even during the wee hours.

Hi!
I don't turn off my cellphone at night. I think it's a hassle to always turn it off before going to sleep and then turning it on upon waking up. Doesn't that damages the cellphone easily? You know, the constant turning off and on might damage the circuitry or something. And another thing, I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night and since my table clock doesn't have a backlight or something and I sleep in the dark so I turn to my cellphone to look at the time.
Cheers.

Actually no and haven't really thought about that. I use m mobile as an alarm clock for me to able to wake up early in the morning. Yes you are right this will somehow save electricity. Most mobile has a feature that even though it is closed it will still alarm according to the time you set. That's really a great idea. Thanks a lot.

Hi there Somethingbig,
I think you can still use the alarm though the mobile has been switched off. Only, it will just ask you if you want to set it on after the alarm has been finished.
With regards to the idea, I hope it will somehow help you in order to reduce electricity consumption.
Have a great day.

hi,
i definitely never turn off my mobile phone when i go to bed,the first reason is i used it as my alarm clock in the morning, and the second is i need it on for incoming emergency call,so for me its important for me to stay my phone open during the bed time.

There are only two reasons to leave my cell phone on at night because for the most part, the only people I communicate with are my two teenage daughters. When one of my kids is away from home on a sleepover or a trip I will leave my phone on at night, and if I am using the alarm clock feature to wake me up in the morning. Other than that, I see no reason to keep my phone on at night. I used to and then would be awakened early in the morning by my kids sending me texts while they were at school. Then they said they didn't want to text me because they were waking me up (I asked them to text me to let me know what they were doing after school or why a vehicle was taken instead of the bus). I assured them that I turn my phone off at night and would get their message as soon as I woke up.
My kids plug their phones in at night to charge their batteries, but this is also a huge waste of power because the battery doesn't take a full night to charge. They now have on the market a timer plug similar to those used for lights. There are 3 time settings on it. You can charge your phone for 3 hours and then the re-charger will turn off. I wish I had one of those.
I hate wasting electricity and batteries. I unplug my laptop completely when not in use and I turn off my wireless mouse so as not to wear down the battery. I would love to turn off the power bars connected to the televisions but the satellite company told me the guides are updated at 3 in the morning so the receivers need to be kept on.
There is no reason for a cell phone to be kept on at night except in case of emergency, which is the case when my kids are out or away from home.

Yes, my mobile phone goes onto voice-mai every evening as I feel that that is my time with my wife. If anybody wants to get me, then they can leave a message and I will get back to them there and then if it's important, but mostly the following day. My mobile phone nevers comes into my bedroom when it is time for sleeping. I am not the happiest of people if I am woken up at night! _Derek

I keep my cellphone charged in, but on. I tend to sleep in come mornings and I won't get out of bed unless my boyfriend calls me. So, I have to leave it on so he can get a hold of me. It also reassures me to have it accessible in the middle of the night. I live in the city and I've had my car broke into twice and a few months ago the guy a few doors down from me was murdered. It might not be much, but it's nice to know I can call 911 quickly if I have too.

I do it sometimes. The thing is that turning off the cell phone night is good for its battery. I noticed that couple of weeks ago when I got myself a Samsung Smiley. I kept my old Samsung Katalyst turned off that time thinking its time was over. But then the Smiley started giving me serious trouble. My nails were not compatible with it for which I had to return it. After that when I turned on my old phone and started using it I noticed that its battery stayed totally fine even after several days. I was stunned by it. I have friends in different states. They sometimes call me at night. So I keep my phone turned on all weekend nights.

I don't turn off my phone at night. There might be something important or an emergency that's why. And it also serves as my alarm clock in the morning. I think it does not consume much electricity.

Nope! I don't turn off my cellphone during the night. I use my cellphone as my alarm clock and also I do believe that there is a need to have my phone turned on during the night. Emergencies during night time may happen and it is better to have your phone ready to make a call. Same is true if others would like to contact you during the wee hours.

I used to turn off my mobile phone a few years back each time I go to sleep at night thinking that same way as you do, however, one particular night, I forgot to turn it off and at the wee hours of the morning someone did call.
It was a close family friend struggling to contact us because her son was stabbed at the back literally and since my dad was a physician, she only knew that she needed to reach him quick. With her panic, she wasn't able to look at the names properly and ended up calling my phone. To which I connected her to my folks and they were able to instruct her what to do on their way to the hospital and they met there.
If I had turned my cellphone off, I don't think I could forgive myself for what could have happened. I think battery life and electric charge is too small for a life that could have been lost because of frugality.
Therefore, from then on, I never turn my cellphone off and I always sleep with my phone in my reach in case something goes wrong.
Have a great MyLot experience today!

I do not turn it off at night. My work, well, requires me to be "on call". Our office works 24/7 and I'm one of the people that my officemates can call or text if they encounter any problems. I completely understand what you ment. Sometimes before I go to sleep, I leave my phone charging, what's good about my phone is that it stops charging when it is full. Also if I was not able to charge it, I bring my charger in the office and charge it there. Saves energy too. haha

Mine is set to automatically turn off when the clock strikes 11 pm. I agree it somehow helps to save electricity, plus you will surely have a good night sleep since it's turn off at night.
Have a great day ahead! Happy mylotting.

I never turn off my mobile phone when I'm going to sleep at night. I don't think that you can save a considerable amount of electricity by just doing this, but maybe I'm wrong.

I don't turn off my mobile device when it's time to go to sleep, I often get late night calls from friends and now that I think of it, half of my long phone calls take place in the night. My friends and family are night owls I suppose. When I turn off my phone overnight, I don't know, It just worries me if someone is going to call me and it'll just go straight to voicemail and they'll think I'm ignoring them, or if it's something really important and I miss it.
