I am staying with my on in USA now. My daughter-in-law's aunty visited our house for seeing my grand son .(six months old). My son told me that the aunty lady who was coming is to be given a surprise party on saturday(today) and please do not mention about that when she comes. Two days back the aunty came with her sister also and went back. I was controlling my tongue not to tell her about the secret surprise party. (That is on the occasion of 60th birth day of her husband). Do you believe that such parties should be given in surprise manner like this instead of it being done openly.? what is your experience in such occasions.

hello ravi, That's sweet to have a surprise party for someone in our family. We've done it once for our mom. She went home to her hometown for a quick visit and we planned for a surprise "Mother's day" welcome party for her. When she arrives we just greet her and we told her to have some rest... on her way to to her room we silently followed her and when she opened her room, she saw a banner "HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY". The,..our kids started to sing song for her and we brought her to the dining room where foods are all set already. how about this kind of surprise party have you ever heard of? not a referral link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Hw5XxV0V64 just for fun

Every family has these sort of parties and they are quite a rage. The one who gets the surprise is touched by it and will remember it for all time to come. And those who organise it enjoy the planning.

I think surprise parties are a good idea. The thrill factor is larger when they arrive and have family there that they haven't seen in a while. We had a surprise 80th birthday party for my great-grandma several years ago. It was really nice. They took a 5 generation picture, my grandma and grandpa came and that really surprise my great-grandma. She hadn't seen them in 4 or 5 years. Not to be a downer, but it was good thing we did the party. My great-grandma past away 3 months later. God Rest Her Soul. She was a special lady that we all loved and miss dearly. Hope her surprise party was nice. Best Wishes!

Surprise parties are great! I wouldn't mind being thrown with a surprise party. It only goes to show that some people view you as important enough to go through the hassle of preparing a special celebration without your knowledge. Without having to have a hand in the preparation makes me feel so special.

that's great i haven't experienced having given a surprise party but i guess such incident is really great. In that case, we will know that there are people who really cared for us. I just saw surprise parties in the movies and tv shows.

I am all for Surprise parties for special occassions such as Big Birthday parties such as this. I know someone threw one for me on my 40th, and I threw a surprise party for my husband on his 50th. I would keep it quiet and let him be Surprised. This could be a way to help show him how much others really care just by being there.

hi ravisivan I think thats really sweet and its a lovely surprise for her.I love surprise parties, helping plan them and having one given for me. I do not see a thing wrong with them at all.we all love to be pleasantly surprised with something planned just for us. I cannot think of a thing that wrong with them at all.

I absolutely love surprise parties. In fact the thrill of knowing it is a surprise gets me more excited then the actual receiver. Yes I too find it hard to contain my tongue too but always manage to keep it secretly as I know it would be much of happiness for the receiver. I have given many surprises for others and do enjoy all the preparation behind it. As I do try to invite a lot of the common friends and or family, also make sure to create many of the dishes they all will enjoy. One time I did give my ex-sister in-law a 50th birthday surprise party. She has never had a party before, like me. So I made it quite special and assuring no one told. Though her sister whom is disliked by many including me actually told her about the party. My ex-sister-in-law was quite a sport though as she walked in the door and teared of happiness. She truly appreciated the party as she was the queen for the day. We were all upset with the sister, who by the way did not come. I guess she was jealous. Too sad she is this way.

Surprise parties are fun but sometimes they create troubles like for example my parents gave a surprise birthday party last year and as it was surprise party so i was not prepared for it. I was having a bad hair day and was dressed so awfully. And when i came out of my room in that condition i was actually surprised to see all my cousions, friends and relatives all of them were dressed so decently except for me:( I was too embarresed:(
