Our Cat Big Boy (BB) Is So Laid Back That He's Funny!

My Silly Big Boy! - He's such a great cat! He doesn't care what you do to him as long as you're not hurting him or getting him wet. lol

I just had to show you this picture of him, he's such a loyal cat and so very loving! He came to us as a stray but he had to be someone's cat because he's not in the least bit feral but he's MINE now! LOL He's so laid back, couldn't care less what's going on around him or what we do to him. LOL I had taken a shirt of hubbys and cut off the short sleaves so he'd be a little cooler while working outside getting the downed pine trees cleaned up. It's really hot out right now (92 degrees) and the humidity from HELL! Anyway, Big Boy was sitting in front of me so I put the sleeve on him and he just sat there! He didn't do a thing! Except lay down and went to sleep! LOL He's such a great cat! So laid back, easy going but yet, loyal and very loving. I'm so glad he came here 5 years ago!! What do you think of him? And by the way, he's the ONLY cat out of all 12 of them, that has no tail. Don't know if he was born this way or someone cut it off. Who cares, I love him no matter how he looks.

He is silly; I know my daughter's cat would have a fit if anything was placed on her like that.. I guess different cats have different personality's, just like dogs. For example, Ciara is laid back while Penny is almost always in hyper mode..

Oh yeah, each and every animal have different personalities just like people do. I couldn't do the same thing to all my cats or they'd have a fit too. Big Boy is such a sweetheart. He doesn't care what I do to him as long as he's not being hurt which of course I won't do that to him even if he were a mean cat. Another thing I meant to tell you, if Penny jumps on you and you don't want her to or you want to break her of that, what you do is lift your knee up every time she jumps or trys to jump on you. After a few of those, she'll learn to stop. It doesn't take very many times before she learns that that is a no no.

Actually, though Ciara is laid back, when it comes to anyone entering this house, whether a guest or a member of the family who was out for a while, both dogs will jump up on us..And I know that trick, about the knee in the belly and I hope I don't get bashed for this, but I have needed them both hard enough to flip them onto their back and they still come at me. Then I saw a video where this guy would take the paw of the dog who jumps, and placing the finger between the pads of the feet, gently squeeze, not enough to hurt them, but to make them uncomfortable. Then when they start squirming to get away, firmly say "no jump" and release them..I did that and it only worked for a short time..I think the main problem when we go out is we also come across another animal, a friends dog or cat, and when we have that smell, my girls loss their minds, they forget what they are suppose to do and just outright attack..(attack as in jumping and sniffing, but if one was off balance or small, they can hurt someone)

No I'm not going to bash you for that. Not at all. Sometimes you have to show authority and if that's the way you have to do it then do it as long as it's not hurting the dogs. Like our Toby, german shepherd, he's so obnoxious at times that hubby finally got through to him to not jump on him and he doesn't unless he's asked to and not a moment before. You should get back into training your dogs again so they know that it's not ok to go berzerk even over the smell of other animals. If you don't, they will hurt someone eventually.

Manx with Short Almost Tail... - This tail looks several inches long & looks much like it has been chopped off.
BB is such a lovely cat!!! About 15 years ago i had a stray adopt me & he was very laid back much like BB. Sometimes I think when we give a stray a home that they are just being thankful you allowed them to stay!!! Only guessing...I'd say BB has some Manx in him. Manx's are beautiful tailless cats. Their offsprings are sometimes born with an "almost tail" that might be an inch long or sometimes just a stub or some have no tail at all. Instead of running like most cats, they appear to hop much like a rabbit. Here is a pic of a Manx with an "almost tail"...

Big Boy's tail is just like the middle one, just a stub or what I call it, a nub. LOL You know, that's a really cool way to think about it, that they're so grateful to be given a home and is why they're so laid back! We have 6 in total that we've adopted but not all of them are laid back like he is. Actually 7 but one was ran over a few years ago. Anyway, Sammy is very skittish! I mean seriously skittish! You say boo to him and he's gone! But other than that, he's a sweetheart too. A real love bug that kneads which hurt! He's a big time hunter too so in a sense, he's earned his keep. LOL We don't have any mice or snakes around here! Anyway, thanks for all those pictures! It is interesting to see how some have tails or no tails and such. Kind of like the different races we humans are. Interesting.

This Manx Has a Really Short Tail... - This one doesn't look chopped off as much as like it just never grew.
This little guy has an even shorter tail. It doesn't look as much like it was chopped off...looking more like it never grew...

A True Manx With a Tiny Stub For a Tail... - In real life, there is a tiny little stub here the tail should be. These are the ones that most often hop like a rabbit!!!
This is the last one!!! This guy has just a tiny little stub & his spine curves down at the tail. They look odd for a cat, but are very loveable furbabies...

That cat sounds very interesting. I don't know about cats with no tails. I think there might be one breed that is like that naturally, but it is unusual for the most part. I can't imagine having 12 cats around. I would settle for one because a litter box can start smelling pretty bad and I can't afford to deal with that. Who knows, maybe some day I will get one again. Have a great day!!!

Yes he's interesting alright. LOL He entertains us and gets us laughing with his antics. LOL He could be a manx mix or a bobcat mix, we're not sure. We didn't get 12 cats on our own, 7 of them came to us however, one unfortunetly was killed so now it's 6 that were strays that came to us and adopted us and we them. We have a kitty door for them to come and go as they wish so they don't all use the kitty box but a certain few which is their choice and we scoop the four boxes twice a day every day so they're not stinky. I hope you're able to get a cat one day too because there's so many of them in need of a good and loving home.

Getting any pet would depend on me getting into a place of my own (rather than a motel room) and having money to buy it food and litter so that I could keep it. I would also have to be able to provide veterinary care so it could stay healthy.

He's a handsome boy! Our youngest was feral. She was so young, she wasn't weaned yet. She was the sole surviver of a dog attack on her family. She turned a year old in June and just now laid down on the desk in my arms while I'm typing and is purring away. I don't know why she likes getting up while I'm on the computer, but that's when she's most interested in cuddling. And, she is NOT laid back. I posted some pics on Facebook of her wearing "the bad cat shirt" earlier last week after she hissed and growled at my daughter who had picked her up. She was NOT happy about the shirt.

Oh the poor thing! My parents had a dog that was the sole surviver of the mother dog killing all of her puppies and was working on her when the owners caught her. She was a beautiful tri color Chihuahua. She grew up to be really shy and we think it was due to the attack of her mother dog. Unfortnetly she got cancer all over her insides and had to be put to sleep so she didn't get to live a ripe old age. I cried and cried when my mother called and told me that she had to put her to sleep. Even though she belonged to my mom, I loved her so much.

Baby Cat's Smug Self - This is how she sat on the couch and stayed that way even after we took pics of her.
This one seems to have adopted me, but she won't let anyone hold her. It has to be her who chooses to be cuddled and when. She recently started lying with me on my bed, but I don't dare touch her or she'll be gone. It's on her terms or not at all. And her terms is almost always when I'm at the computer!! In between me and the keyboard purring like crazy.

Our Sleepy is perhaps a year older than Big Boy. He was picked up as a stray by Animal control, but has always been gentle and loving, except when the cat carrier comes out. He will fight to keep from getting put in there. I'm sure he remembers that the cat carrier means he's going to the vet. Sleepy's a lot like Big Boy.

Awwwww sounds like a sweetie too but maybe his lack of liking the carrier is due to when he was picked up. He's probably afraid to go back to the pound. Poor thing. Maybe you should bring it out and set it down with the door open so that he can get used to it? Having it hidden or put away and then taken out puts the fear in him. It's a guess that's worth trying anyways.

Aw !! Big Boy is a lot like my cat, Flash. He doesn't mind what we do to him as long as we feed him LOL I got him when he was just tiny kitten and now he weighs about 25 pounds ! He did have kidney stones a few weeks ago and we couldn't figure out why he was meowing so funny and then we watched him the litter box and he couldn't pee....... The vet kept him over night and finally got a urine sample out of Flash and now he's on a special cat food to help dissolve that stones. And, sounds like your cat with no tail is probably part Bob cat. I had two that way and one was albino and he couldn't hold his pee and poop and we tried all sorts of things but one day he disappeared. But with no tail, I'd guess he' s part Bob cat.. Love him tho :) like we all love ours :)

Flash should've been named Giant! LOL Poor thing having kidney stones!! I know what you went through with him because I had a cat that looked just like Morris and of course I named him Morris. He was such a love bug too. He lived to be 13. Anyway, can I give you a piece of advice on that? The vet that I saw for my Morris, he was an old timer veterinarian and really knew his stuff. After Morris was done with the food he had to eat, the vet told me to keep him on 9-lives cat food at all times and as far as can cat food goes, only get the ones that the ash content showed to be 3.5 or lower. Back in those days it was only 9-lives can cat food that had it that low but now a whole lot of them have changed and are that way now too which makes it much easier for the cats digestive system to digest their food without it crystalizing. I buy all brands now whether it's store brand or whiskas or 9-lives, as long as it reads 3.5 or lower. I've never ever had the problem with ANY of my cats since.

LOL,Flash was an ordinary cat and I had him neutered ! He just grew LOL and yes, he's a love bug too and he is about 8 or so now. You bet I love your advice... I never would have dreamed 9 lives ! but, I will be checking labels now. I have to take him back in a couple of weeks to have his pee tested....... I do soooo thank you for the advice ... This is the first time I've trouble like this with a cat too. I never dreamed he had kidney stones... But, he whined and cried and paced and I knew he had to be hurting. So, we are well on the mend now... Thanks for the ash advice. hugs, quita

12 Cats? That is a lot. But cats can be some Great creatures for pets, and so much personality. When I was growing up we had Cats, Dogs, Pigs, Chickens and even 2 goats. Now we only have a Pomeranian who thinks he is human. But animals are such amazing creatures for sure.

Yep. 12 cats and 4 dogs. We did have 5 dogs but one passed away recently and is so sorely missed! However, when I was a kid, we had 38 cats, 7 dogs, a pony, 3 rabbits, and 3 ducks. NO LIE!! Back then I don't think there was such a thing as spay and neuter as there is today. Anyway, we had 7 strays that adopted us and we them but one was hit by a car so it's down to 6. The rest of them we got ourselves. We love them all and will care for them till they're days are up. We didn't set out to get this many but I have a heart for the homeless that happen to find us or we them because I feel this way, if I were a stray dog or cat, I'd hope someone would take me in, love, feed and get me vetted so I could be happy too. I hate the idea of one starving all because I didn't do something to help.

My neighbor named his bobtail cat Big Boy as well. That is funny. His is because he is a little on the small side. I bet your cat was born that way. There are Manx cats and American Bob Tail that are born with short or stubby tails. I like very laid back animals.

Really? How cool! My reason for naming him Big Boy is for, well, a funny reason.... LOL When he first came to me, hubby was still in Arkansas getting ready to retire from the Army and it was at night in my front yard. We have some bushed that are put in a really pretty way and BB was out there and I was trying to coax him to come to me but he was afraid so I went at him slowly plus I wanted to know whether he was a boy or a girl. Well being that he had no tail.... he went around the bush and GOOD GRIEF!! LMBO! He had the biggest set of balls I've EVER seen on a cat!! I was shocked and I stood up and said to him "Oh my! I KNOW what you are now!! LMBO!! Needless to say, he's been neutered so he's not so BIG anymore!! LOL

I don't let the cats fight in my bed, but Scamp is such a big scaredy cat that if he hits someone I let him and run the cat he hits off - unless its a baby, then I hold him down and take the kitten away. Most of the cats will at least defend themselves, but some of them they will give a wide berth to. Its funny, both Solo and Zhaan will have other cats walk around them, but if one is sitting and the other walking, the walking one will avoid the sitting one.

Oh I couldn't agree more! I hope he was born tailless and not by some cruel manner. I think he was born this way because otherwise, he'd be freaked by human beings but he's so not. He's so laid back easy going. A wonderful sweet cat! About 20 years ago I had another orange striped cat that I named Morris because he looked exactly like the cat Morris from 9-lives. He was so sweet and very gentle. He wouldn't fight anybody but would lay on his side and let the others do what ever but then they'd walk away and leave him be. Well, my other cat Bandit, he was black and white and on his chest he looked like he had a bandana like he was going to rob a bank or something. lol But he was a tough ole thing that he wanted to be the dominate one. Well one day I found MORRIS chasing Bandit!! I screamed for my mom to look at this!! She laughed and said "Yeah, Morris had just started to defend himself because he's tired of being picked on" I liked to have fallen over out of disbelief!! I was cheering him on because it was about damned time he stood up for himself!! "Way to go Morris!! Way to go!" LOL From then on, Bandit left him alone.

Hi Hatley! Oh I wish you could see him in person! He just loves everybody! He loves to be around people no matter who they are. He's just so laid back easy going type of cat. You are right, every cat have their own personalities. Some like to be dominate and some like to be alone and so on. When he's outside, he's so darned silly! He chases unseen things and then runs half way up a tree like something is on his tail then he stops and looks around as if to ask, where did it go? LOL

I love him Cats! He is such a sweetie by the look of him, he’s adorable. As you’ve probably guessed I am very passionate about kitties! I have a stray girl that became ours when she turned up on our doorstep seven years ago. I wonder if the ones that were once homeless are the sweetest because they appreciate love when they finally found it. Our Rosie is sweet and loving like your Big Boy.

You know, you do have a very good point! But very hard to say though. They just might be very appreciative of us taking them in and giving them a loving home and is why they're so loving. I just wish they could talk to us in our language so we could see what they'd say. But then again, what about the feral ones that won't come to us? Hard to say.... but still a good point!

We sit on the porch watching him act out his antics and get the biggest laugh from him. He's been such a huge pleasure to have around and hope he'll be around for a long long time to come because I haven't a clue to his age. Yes 12 cats. 6 of them are strays that adopted us and we them. We can't turn any of them away because I feel this way, if I were a cat, I'd hope someone would feed me and give me a home with love. what a sweetie and how sweet of you to take him in and take care of him. sometimes cats are born with no tails. usually it means they are a mix with manx cat or else they are a manx or one of another type that have no tails, which i cant remember the names of right now.
