what this word lol actually means?

I have been using internet for 5 years.but i have never used a forum and never chatted with people online.From 3 ago i have started to visit a forum of video games.There i found people use this word Lol very often Especially when they find anything amusing to them.I really do not know what this word means and what it expresses .I even thought of asking them But i feared that the answer itself will be lol.I mean they will write this word as an answer to my question and laugh their way out.Thus i am asking it here because people here reply Correctly and honestly.

Yeah, someone said it before me but it means "laughing out loud." This is funny because some people believed it meant "lots of love" and people were getting confused but now most people accept it as meaning "laughing out loud." Yeah, I don't like this internet speech at all. I think it is kind of stupid.

If it was live out loud then it makes no sense and if it means laughing out load then it sense to some extend.Even i do not like the mention of this word.

haha. That is funny that you have been too afraid to ask the meaning before. It means "laugh out loud". It can also mean "lots of love", but no one really uses it in this way. LMFAO means "laugh my f* a** off". ROFL means "rolling on floor laughing".
