I didn't travel by train before this. I used to travel by car and bus only. However, i heard my friend said that if we travel by train, we should choose the seat wisely so that we are more comfortable. By the way, will it be noisy when we sit in the train?

Is the feeling is same as taking the light rail transit(LRT)? That's because i always take LRT but i never take train to travel for long journey.

I do love travelling by train but the fact that it's so crowded all the time irritates me. So that is why I love travelling by bus better. We can get to see different sceneries from the bus too. But yeah both of them are comfortable but trains are a bit more quicker because there are no traffics.

Traffic is there among trains also. The thing is that we can't see it. That's why it sometimes stops before some big station.

The biggest advantage of travelling by train is the ease of travel and the obvious comfort to the body.
In no other mode of transport is your body so much at ease.
And, yes, train travelling allows to use your travel time in a worthy way by reading books, conserving with your family and getting to talk to new people which other mode of transport allow only in a limited way.

Train is good means of travelling. It is safe and comfortable than other means of travelling. In India it is cheap than other transports. In interstate travel we have many new experiance in the train. We meet with person from different state and culture. journey in toy train is also funny in hills area.

Hi megha,
You are right travelling by railways is the best form of travel. I prefer it over all other modes of travel. First of all as you have pointed out we come across people from all walks of life and mingle with them exchange the pleasantries and you don't even understand when you have reached your destination. Another good thing about rail travel is you can move around freely unlike in other forms of travel where you have got to be seated at place particularly in road travel. The best part of rail travel is the comfort you get at night in a long journey. You can sleep and travel. The best type of push back seats does not give you that comfort. I have been lucky to be able to travel a lot by Indian Railways right from my college days and even today cherish the happy memories of those travels.

I love to travel in different countries in the world. Going on train is my favorite way to go. In the daytime I can look out of the window at the passing scenery. In the night time it is wonderful to sleep in a comfortable compartment. I have traveled on trains in Australia, New Zealand, America and many different countries in Europe. I took a train in Malaysia too. I am lucky because I live within walking distance of a train station. I have a Friends and Family Railcard. This gives me discounted train tickets in my home country.

I think that travelling by train can be fun, but it really depends on the quality of the service that you receive. For example, I take the train to university every day, which is a 20 minute ride, but sometimes I cannot get a seat and it is cramped and incredibly uncomfortable. I do not like the train at those times simply because of this, however I love to take the train through the countryside when you can look out of the window and just see fields for miles around. This is much nicer, particularly if the train that you're on is nice and quiet, and you can get a compartment for just your own family and nobody else. The government should improve train services, as they're much better for the environment than driving, however all that they seem to be doing is raising travel prices which means that people prefer to take the car instead.

I have not travelled long distances in a train since I was a little girl, but we have a Light Rail system here that I like. Depending on where you live here, you can get on one of two systems. If you are coming from where I am from, you take that to the city, then transfer to the other train if you want to go further. But the Light Rail system doesn't go through the state like Amtrak does. The Light Rail system is nice if you want to go downtown for a sports game or to go shopping, but not pay for parking and/or gas. I try not to bother my neighbors while on the train, so I either read a book or magazine or just look at the scenery. It's cheap to ride and you can just sit back and enjoy the ride. Maybe someday I will take a longer adventure to a further destination on a train.

I traveled by train once. A friend and I wanted to take the train, so we went to Boston. It was more about the train than the destination. It was HORRIBLE! The air was stale and smelled of urine and smoke (this was a long time ago and you could smoke everywhere then). We left out of Pittsburgh, PA. and changed trains in NY, NY. The train out of NY wasn't bad, but the one out of Pittsburgh was so bad we traded in our train tickets and flew home. My mother has traveled on trains and she loves it! I will never do it again!

I loved to travel by light rail transit (LRT) when I still resided in Metro Manila. It was comparatively cheap, run more or less on time, and would meet no other traffic on the way because it has its own elevated or dug out railway. I could calculate my time of departure, unless it was the rush hour, and time of arrival.
The LRT has no comfort/rest rooms in the car but you can get off at certain stations, relieve yourself, then catch the next train to your destination.
The LRT is well-maintained but Metro Manila has limited LRT routes, unfortunately. It's a great way of moving around certain parts of Metro Manila.
There are long-distance trains going from Metro Manila to Bicol in the southern tip of Luzon, and vice-versa. The trains are slow but safe. Most times when I traveled to and from Bicol, I would take the train.
There are no high-speed or "bullet" trains in the Philippines. There are sleeper compartments but no shopping cars on board. Vendors are allowed to come aboard to hawk their wares. The scenery you find outside the window may not be great but it will not be boring.

Travelling by train is real fun and comforting. Travelling across the country, the journey may go on for a day or two and those are the most relaxed days whereas people using flights complain of being tired....it has been one of the best things about a trip to somewhere...

I think it will never be free shopping, you need to pay :). Well I guess you are just talking about hawkers that comes and goes off the train per station, else the train kitchen crew that sells the usual tea and coffee and some snacks including the food that they prepared on board.
Anyway I do like to travel via train because they have comfort rooms that I can go to whenever I feel like I'm going to pee, unlike buses that needs to stop only on certain locations for a short rest for the driver and passengers to eat.
It is also expensive if that was via plane, at least you need to spend a thousand to reach the place easier. But you can only see clouds (if it was a good weather condition). So if you're a person who enjoys seeing places while traveling, trains will be the best option.

It indeed is even though I last travelled by train 3 days back and that was after a gap of almost 4 years. It felt so good and reminded me of my college days and the fun my friends and myself used to have while travelling. Those days I did not realise the dangers of hanging near the door and travelling, but when I remind myself of those times I now realise how dangerour it could have been.
But the experience of travelling after 4 years was really good fun. I did not hang out this time but was standing a little inside close to the door and when it started raining it felt so good.

ya , traveling by train is very fun, i also very like it. Train are cheap, quick, easy to plan route, one of the safest ways to travel, relatively reliable, can enjoy the scenery, can work/study/take phone calls on the way, easily accessible to most, can travel overnight long distances.
But sometime, i feel very noise at train. Are you same feeling with me?
