Social Networking: Trivia or useful?

Althrough there are numerous advantages in social networks, unfortunately most of the content ends up being trivial things like: "Ijust drink coffe" or phothos silly nonsense.
Do you agree or think of the content social networks is usable?

Perhaps it is all based on peoples opinions. I mean I love facebook for chatting and commenting on posts and seeing peoples pictures they throw up of everyday things. Other than that it serves about the same service as email or a a scrapbook or yearbook. I will usually post inspirational stuff for my friends to see or think about too, so it is what you make it. If you are a positive/negative person it will show.
