Why is counter strike still so famous?

Easy. It's simply the best game ever created. You feel like actually shooting another person and it also moves as fast as a real person. It's very realistic that's why a lot of people are still addicted to it.

Counter strike is a nice game, because many people can play at the same time in the LAN by making teams. I remember that college there were tournaments of this game and there was a huge cash prize for the winner. Many students were addicted to it. I also played the game but not addicted. Now I don;t play the game because no such friends and the LAN is available. Thanks and have a nice day.

Just like Mario, Pacman and other oldies game, Counter Strike is very popular because you can play it with your friends. I always play this game with my cousins and I am always one who gets shot first. I am very bad at this game. I need some tutorial.

You have to appreciate that Counter Strike is a Mod, not a game on it's own. It is based on Half-Life, which is still evolving even today. Half-Life is a fantastic game for those who want to modify just about everything in it. It even comes with a world builder software so that you can make your own maps and models, then there are so many bots to add, and other modifications to enhance the original game. Or indeed make what appears to be an entirely new game as Counter Strike is. Not many games are as "do-it-yourself" as this, and that is the major attraction.

That's call of duty you're talking about,not just a game.Only fps where a new comer will get fucccked up worse than on CS is quake 3.And in what other game do you get shot through a wall/door when making too much noise moving?

OMG... they still play this game.. i just knew that... back in college i usually play this game with my friends at gamecenter. I never tought that today they still play this game... good to know..

Well one reason is that Counter Strike was really the Only FPS that perfected the Team Multiplayer Shooter. I mean their was Team Fortress, Unreal Tournament, Quake which most people in the last two played Free For All and not team play. Counter Strike though set objective which put two team against each other not for control points but to rescue hostages or VIP or even defuse a Bomb. Counter Strike put Good against Evil in the real worlds eyes. It also had the advantage of being one of the best Mods in fact so good that VALVE took it under its wing and help developed CS:S. Counter Strike 1.5 and earlier is easy as the WAN servers are down and have been for some time but anything later than 1.5 has a steam connection which is a DRM so people don't like it but I mean Counter Strike Source is like $9.99 at the most and well you can also get Half-life 2 for like 19.99 I mean most people don't steal games from VALVE because VALVE has a history of making games that people feel aren't just a part of the mold and well they have always developed their games so that the Mod Community could take their Game Engine and their Game to more places than they could by themselves I would say that it is because of Valve's dedication to the Gamer that has helped it from being like EA Games which long ago has left the Gamer behind and well just recently learned that they need to get the gamers back. I mean Valve always knew that they needed to make games that we the gamers would like and well they have always been very nice to the gamers around their games always forcing us to wait for a game then they launch it and we are like worth the wait. I mean they even listened to the Gamers when they where moving to steam and guess what when steam was launched out of beta and went live people hardly realize that it is a DRM program because it doesn't feel like it is as well it just lets you play your games without getting in the way.

Well what is most amazing part of CS is that there is one on one play with the players you must be knowing the different features of CS like multiplayer, different locations and many more features like that. The reason behind the success of this games inspite of having a very low bandwidth as you said and low graphics is due to the tradition playing. If you see this CS game was used to be played many years ago around from 2001, from approximately around that year the CS came into market reputation, in Cyber, gaming zone lot of CS games were been played, if you see in malls the machine games also has CS gaming, So just imagine the popularity, Apart from the the reason i only think being famous of CS is its is gaming experience inspite of low graphics and low memory usage which is quite strange.

Counter-Strike is really a classic and its a really great mod for Half-Life.There was never AI in the game and dont blame Valve for making bad AI because there was never AI.The AI was made by the community so blame them :P . Nobody really cares about graphics these days and why should valve discontinue it when they are making a whole load of cash with Counter-Strike. It was a the first tactical(well at that time) game and is qutie enjoyable even now affecting culture and stuff.

hi humanicon! maybe because this game is nice this game is a lan game no internet needed and also this game can be played by kids , it is not also complicated and not like the other games, it is also this game is compatible to all computers graphics are not high unlike the other games. it can also be easy to download.
