Happy 4th of July

United States

Today is a mixture of happiness and sadness. It was the day before Easter that my brother who served in the army passed away. We are celebrating our country's freedom but we know that it came as a cost. We are not the only family grieving that our loved one who served in the armed forces passed away. There are thousands of other families who are in the same situation, so if you are one of those families, I pray that you hold each other up and gain strength from each other. It is not easy to do in the face of grief. Keep close to each other and most importantly say "I love you."

I have a son who served in Iraq and returned home safely. People do not understand what a family goes through when a loved one is deployed. I hope everyone understands that it is the service men and women who protect our freedoms and allow us to enjoy the good time we have in the US.

It is with a sigh of relief that our loved ones come home safe. My brother served in Iraq and had just returned from Korea when he became suddenly ill and collapsed on the army base. It definitely goes without saying the adage "Freedom is not free." I have another brother who is in the army reserves. Those of us with military family certainly appreciate these holidays more than others. Tell your son "Happy 4th from a friend."

Having worked online for a number of years, I have had the pleasure of working with people from all around the world. One thing I have come to realize - THE United States of America is one helluva country, full up with free people who often don't realize just how good they have it. I never take my freedom for granted and am eternally grateful for all the brave men and women who have fought and who continue to fight daily to keep this the best country in the history of the planet. Happy 4th!
