Germany, Italy, and Switzerland have clearly abandoned the path that relies on nuclear energy. Germany has combined the phase-out of nuclear energy with a very vigorous initiative for renewable energy and a drive to increase fossil fuel efficiency to cut down on its coal consumption.
On the other hand, support to nuclear phase-out has increased to a total of 74% in Japan, according to a poll by Asahi Shimbun. The same poll showed that 64% of the respondents believed that natural energy such as wind and solar power will replace nuclear power in the future.
How about you? Do you support this phase-out of nuclear power and replacing it with renewable energy?

I don't support phasing out nuclear energy as i think it is the only way efficient to replace the carbon dioxide producing ways of generating energy such as coal powered power stations.Renewable energy should be a part of the solution to replace fossil fuel burning however they alone would struggle to generate enough energy. Most experts believe nuclear is the only method that could generate enough to be an alternative though more work needs to be done on improving safety.

May I invite you to look deeper into the German strategy. Germany's road map is mainly to go solar, wind and hydro, so that by 2022, the share of renewable energies will increase to 35%. At present, renewable energies provide 17% of Germany's needs. The renewable energy industry employs about 370,000 people.
Renewable energy and increasing the efficiency of coal, another German target, make the Merkel Government confident that by 2022, C02 emissions will be reduced by 40%. This target is way above their committed target in the Kyoto Protocol.
Friend Anklesmash, it appears that Germany is keenly aware of your concerns and is set to fulfill your wishes. You reflect too the world's concerns as expressed in the Kyoto Protocol.

Friend Anklesmash, I wonder about the paucity of reaction to this topic. Is it because people all over the world really don't care how the energy they use at home and at work is generated and they are unmindful of the impact of such technology on the environment and life as we know it? Hello myLotters, can you give Friend Anklesmash and me a piece of your mind about this issue?
