Dear all,
Roger Federer has been undoubtedly the king of grass in the last decade or so, till Nadal came along. Well Nadal was the reigning champion, but this time it was Novak Djokovic who has been crowned Wimbledon Champion.
I am going to say that even though Federer has been arguably the best on grass so far, his reign has come to an end. He might win the championship, may be one more time.... But not more. By saying this, I do not mean any disrespect. I say so because he is nearing thirty and in the sport of tennis it is close to getting old. This is how tennis has been. New stars come in, the older stars have to give way. I mean Pete Sampras gave way to Federer, Federer gave way to Nadal, And Nadal has now given way to Novak. I mean Nadal is still young and will be foolish to write him off this early...!!!! But Nadal's knee will be his Achilles's Heel as he punishes himself every match...!!!
Novak is the future. He might not win Grand Slams at the rate as how Federer and Nadal won. But he is for sure the immediate future. It is the way Tennis works. New stars emerge and the older one have to pass the throne. I mean it is such a physical sport that when age and wear and tear catches up with a player, one cannot help, but just pass on the throne...!!! It is a bitter sweet moment. I mean it is sad to see a star fade away, but then it is also great to see the rise of a new star...!!!
So is the case with he Women's tennis. Sabine Llisciki, Wosniacki and Kvitova are stars of the future. And I specially like Sabine... (FOR PERSONAL REASONS... AHEM ,, :D)

Djokovic is playing at a different level this year. I can say he has improved a lot. But I do not think that one win on Wimbledon makes him worthy of being called the New King of Grass. Not yet, i guess. Also let us take into consideration that Nadal during their match was not really playing 100%.
With the women's division, I am so impressed with Sabine and Kvitova. I think they will surpass Wozniacki.

Dear Bubbletush,
Thank you for your view. But again let me clarify myself. I called Djokovic the current King of Grass and not the Undisputed King of Grass...!!!!! Roger Federer is still the Undisputed King of Grass...!!!! Even Nadal is yet to earn that Mantle...!!!! But it is safe to say that Federer's reign as the Undisputed King of Grass is now coming to an end. Although as a Federer fan myself, I would love to see him lift a couple more Wimbledon Championships before he hangs up his shoes...!!!!
The tussle for the Numero Uno spot now will be between Djokovic and Naldal.
Now about the finals between Nadal and Djokovic...!!! This year the two met four times and Djokovic won all the four times. Djokovic has been in wonderful form all this year. People say it was because Nadal was injured that he lost the finals... But I would say that was just one of the factors. Djokovic was playing much better tennis in the match and that actually demotivated Nadal... Especially when Djokovic won the first two sets. Nadal had no issues when he won the third set. Djokovic was too good on that day and he closed the match in the fourth set...!!!!
Now about the ladies... I am impressed with Sabine, Kvitova and Wozniacki, Sabine is my personal favorite..!!! (For Personal Reasons.. !!! :D). I believe all the three will win a few Grand Slams in their career, unless they get injured or something...!!!! And yes Wozniacki is yet to prove herself in Grandslams... But she will come through sooner than later...!!!

I was hoping that someone would create a topic regarding the Wimbledon finals! Thanks balu!!
Indeed, I am very happy that Djokovic finally got his priced Trophy. Nadal is still a great player but it's time he meets his match. I wonder if Federer hadn't beaten Novak in RG, could Novak have also won against Nadal, then?

Dear Being well,
This time Nadal did meet his match in Djokovic. Nadal is know for being relentless on court. But Djokovic was never awed by this factor. In fact Djokovic was calm did not try to over do things or did not get pulled in to unwanted long rallies...!!!! In fact Djokovic had the upper hand coming into this match as he had won all the four previous encounters against Nadal this year. Before losing the third set to Nadal, Djokovic had won eight sets in a row against Nadal.
Now Novak beating Nadal in clay.. Hmmmm.... I must say if any one can beat Nadal in clay, it would be Djokovic. But I believe that Nadal is still and will be the king of clay for another two years.... But like I said, I would not be surprised if Novak wins over Nadal on clay...!!!!

you probably right there is time for everyone.
One can't be the king for all time and everytime so is in the case of the tennis.
Well it good to see new champion and what you see is nothing to disrespect any one.

Djokovic the new king of grass. I would not agree to that. He did play well in the finals of Wimbledon 2011 and pushed Nadal to the limit and went on to win it. Moreover considering that Nadal was nursing an injury also hampered his chances in the finals. He played well throughtout the tournoment but just could not sustain the pressure delivered by Djokovic.
Roger Federer was definately the king of grass and he is not living up to the expectations that his fans want to see. He still has a little left in him and we will all see it in a grand slam soon. Nadal plays well on grass and clay and by saying so I would select Nadal ahead of Djokovic when it comes to grass. Nadal will be raring to go for everything after he recovers from his injury. The US Open in August will be an ultimate test for Djokovic and we will come to see if he can be champion there as well. He is young and will definately be a worthy champion someday in future..

Dear Keenan,
(IT SEEMS TO ME AS YOU HAVE POSTED YOUR REPLY THRICE.... ARE YOU TRYING TO ESTABLISH A POINT??? :D)
I called Djokovic the "New King of Grass". Not the "Undisputed King of Grass"...!!!!... Yes Nadal did play well through out the tournament. But the fact that Djokovic was playing well and was handling rallies better than Nadal got Djokovic the edge. Djokovic did not prolong the rallies. Nadal did try, but Djokovic was wise enough to end the rallies quickly...!!!!
I am sure Federer still has some more gas in him... I would love to see him lift a few more grand slams before he retires. Now I believe the tussle for superiority will be between Nadal and Djokovic.
Will Djokovic be the Ultimate king of Grass...?? Only time will tell... But for the moment... He is the reigning King of Grass....!!!
