I like writing research papers because they allow me to come across interesting facts. I also like stating my own opinion as conclusions. But one thing I hate most is citing the sources of those facts by using different formats like APA, Chiacago and MLA. Some professors professors are very strict about them. I wish we were given the freedom to use a format of our own. But writing research paper itself seems like an interesting project to me. I must still say that in certain courses, they can be a difficult thing to do especially if they require very special sources like reviewed journals or hard field work and surveys.
What about you? Do you like writing them? In which course, you had the toughest time time doing it? For me, it was in an online recreation class. The professor told us to interview 3 managers from three different recreational fields and write on them. It was not easy. Some managers I tried to catch up with were too busy for an interview.

I love research work and research papers too! But really I don't have any issue about writing in references. I usually use the APA system. I love constructing a research paper. I remembered that I submitted one before and when it was checked and reviewed by my instructor I was shocked to see plenty of red marks in it! Well, I do love those red marks still because they guide me in improving the way I write research papers. As for me, I love research papers with good data presentation and clear analysis. They just help you pinpoint the significance of the paper easily. But it should be noted that I'm really frustrated with journals and research papers which are translated in English. The grammar of those papers really gives me a headache to understand.

Oh, are you in research program? Or is it like you use the journals to support your points and recommendations?

Sorry for the late reply! Just got back back in this discussion. I am into research and development in a private company. I usually refer to journals for certain ideas for product development. More like references for thesis or projects purposes. I love doing research also during my college years.

I used to search for different journals with regards to my thesis before. Also, in my current work, I have to deal with research papers and journals to be able to innovate and improve technology. These journals will be used as references for my ongoing research topic. More needed to fill up the Review of Related Literature part of a research paper.

AgentGulaman, I think some people hate writing research paper because of the word choices which are to be done by brainstorming. My close friend and boyfriend hate writing research papers also. And they always tell me that they just don't know how to start and end them. It is not that they are bad at writing. I saw both of their writings and I thought they had no problem in letting their creative juice flow. But my boyfriend tells me that he feels some kind of pressure when he sits down to write one of those. It is like nothing really comes to mind. When he was in MBA I heard him complain every night about those projects. But now he cannot exclude them from his life because in his job, he has a requirement to be a part of research team

So, what made you hate it before? And also what did you discover in writing research papers that made you change your viewpoint on doing so? Surely, you have reasons why you like it now.I'm interested in knowing the reason why some people hate to write research papers while others love it. Can you please share it here? Thanks!

I HATE,HATE,HATE writing research papers... I am a creative writer, not a research writer, but since I needed to take classes to improve my writing skills, English comp 112 was primarily writing a research paper in MLA format..But I doubt it would make a difference in what format I used, I am not a research writer. I hate it and thought I was going to barely pass this course, but I guess since I do like to write, I did get enough points for an A.. Now I heard my next class, English comp 113, is reading a book and writing a report on it and that might be a little challenging, but nothing like this research paper..Because I was terrified I'd get an F for making a mistake and not citing it correctly and it was a very stressful quarter..
But thankfully that is over with, and I actually am looking forward to writing a book report..

Not only that, the lessons were messed up and I made that comment in the end of the quarter survey. When it was time to write our bibliography, I read the lesson in my book and it had this website where I could download a template as a model for my paper...Well, a bibliography is different from a citation, and when I wrote my resources using the template, my instructor acted all confused..I found out that she wanted my citations, not a bibliography.. But, since I redid that paper, when the quarter ended, it was that paper that pushed me over to an A, but still it was very stressful...

Oh yes, I remember the book report project. Honestly speaking, I did not like it because my professors wanted us to translate metaphors from various chapters into pure language. I must say though that doing a book report is more of comfortable job than writing a research paper. At least only one book is neccessary to make it happen. For research papers, we have to go through so many sources that at one point it can get tiring.

Well, it's not hard to write research papers when you know something about the subject matter.
About the citing formats, it is necessary to have a common citing formats so that the information of the resources could be easily identified.
Well, I had a hard time writing for our sociology class but I was still a first year Computer Science student back then and now I'm a third year. :)

Yes, you are right, when we know the subject matter it is easier. I was a business student. So I knew what to write about in business courses. But I cannot say the same for science ones which I took to fulfill my GE requirements. I am sure other students find it hard to write a paper in subjects they are not familiar with. I am with citation, but I wish some formats were not that hard to follow.

I actually really hate writing research reports. I just hate having to look up all this information and ending up with stacks of papers and information of facts. It's hard to pick and choose which are the most important to incorporate into the final paper. It really just overwhelms me with all the papers. And plus, I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I take really long to write papers. I would spend so many minutes or even hours trying to write an introduction paragraph, finding the write words and phrases to get my points across.

It is true that finding many information and choosing which one to pick for the research paper is overwhelming. I like how English professors go step by step by first asking the student to find the information, then coming with a rough draft followed by the final paper. That makes things much easier. Other professors should follow this style.

I like research (not with the super in-depth terms that I can hardly understand) types but the things that add to my knowledge and help me understand the world better.
I had the dislike of writing research papers when in my undergraduate, I was the one who almost wrote the whole thing. And, yes, I also loathe the citation part since most teachers have their own preferences and I really have to make sure that I cite the whole resources lest I want to see the paper rejected becuase of that part.
I just for me, research is just something that makes my brain cells and my creative juice not flowing. I know some people have no difficulty in writing these types and in a sense, I can write this type but it is not something I prefer.

Ah, I know what you mean. That super in depth reminds of thesis papers students write in masters. But I heard that this is a requirement in most masters. In MBA, however, there is no such thing which is good
Professors should make the project more interesting instead of coming up with rules that make the paper writing a daunting task. Did you have to follow that number of pages rule? Some professors make it compulsory to have at least 5 pages. Others want 12 pages. A history student once told me that he had to write 32 pages for one of his classes. I thought that was a little too much. Also I don't think professors really read all of it.

hi
i like writing but doing research work just for the sake of writing down soe stuff drains out the patience in me so i prefer writing interesting stuffs rather than writing researched works in any particular field .. according to me if you do research work and interpret something out of it well and good but if not whats the whole point ??? of course you would have gained knowledge but at the end it would have been a tiresome activity rather than an interesting one ... so i prefer writing interesting creative aspiring stories or poems rather than writing researched works.
