getting a best response

I logged in to myLot earlier this day and I am surprised with what I saw. My reputation has increased! So, I wondered who has given me a positive remark because that was the only way I think will increase my reputation here in myLot. But when I opened up my best response tab, I can see another new best response given to me. I believe it was given yesterday because when I logged out yesterday my earning was 87. Now it has become 88! it is indeed not a high increase but an increase is an increase deducing from that, I believe the increase is from getting the best response. Am I right about the best response thingy? If yes, do we have any other ways to increase our reputation? Just wondering any other possibilities. Thanks in advance for any response.

I am sure that someone else will be along to confirm or deny this, but I believe that getting a best response only gives us "Bragging Rights" and does not affect our myLot reputation. The only thing that affects our myLot reputation is the DRS (discussion rating system), which is the "+" and "-" buttons next to our discussions and responses/comments.

I just want to reconfirm that notion. When one gets a best response the chances are the opening poster will also rate a thumbs up(based on logic) but that is not assured.

Thanks for the very prompt response. I wasn't on my desk for some time today so I was shocked to see the number of response! @purplealabaster: Perhaps you can enlighten me more about "Bragging Rights"? I don't see them anywhere! Also, I am aware of DRS and its effect on my reputation now. @theboozebrothers: Thanks for the confirmation. I wasn't sure before this discussion, so enlighten me about this matter is really helpful. @teamcholent: I can see that now. And perhaps it is what happened to my response yesterday. Great to be enlighten of that. Thanks!

Well good! SOMEONE is using the plus! I thought that had stopped completely. My view was that all the newbies here never learn what the plus and minus signs are for, and so the rating system had all but collapsed. Perhaps it will revive itself now!

I think that is one of the drawbacks of not being able to rate until you have a user rating of 100 or more, although I do realize that there are more positives to this restriction than negatives. Still, when a newer users starts getting used to commenting/responding on a discussion and within response boxes he or she is not able to rate what he or she is responding to. Then, when that person is able to rate, often times that person will forget to do so, because previously he or she was unable to.

Well perhaps we need a "timetable" of what you get, when you get, and how to use each privilege. Instead of individual sections in the FAQ's and guidelines.

Well personally getting Best Responses is a nice thing to have. I know for me they seem to often come in spurts depending on the amount of time I have to post here. Most of the time when I am posting, unless I see it in my Email I have been known to miss out when I am given them, but when I do notice I usually will try and Thank them as well.

Hi LC! If you are receiving several Best Responses then I guess we can presume that, as well as the starter of the discussions where they were awarded, there were others who appreciated your posta and plussed them. Hence the increase in you reputation

I guess I should go and add some comments on the last one that Peter might have missed as I don't remember seeing him here yesterday

What is a "cow" type of discussion?

Do you have a suitable "cow" type of discussion to teach people how to use the plus and minus?

Oh, yes, I remember the times when I was going to "best responses" and find I just been nominate as one ... oh, I felt so proud ... Yet I do not think is anyhow related to the rank is shown in that big star. There the number is coming from other users giving you ratings ... My 2 cents.

Let me tell you another "trick" that you may allready know .. Simply put the mouse over the star with your personal rating score. There will be a number. Check it time to time ... and you will know your rating progress "live"

@wmraul: I have exactly doing that to check my reputation every now and then. I believe it is a good way to check what other myLotters are thinking about my involvement here. I hope one day I will qualify to earn those blue (10) star!

@wmraul: I can see that now, and I am really happy because someone is enjoying my participation here in myLot. The number has stayed that way for some time, so when it started to increase again I was in cloud nine. Now I have an extra 2 cents in my "brain fund"!

Increases in earnings have nothing to do with being awarded a best response. Occasionally myLot will adjust our earnings and they might fluctuate a penny or two due to this recalculation. It is described in more detail here http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq6.aspx#17 in the FAQs.

i just read the FAQ's on the link. thank you. now i know that it has nothing to do with it and that they just do this recalculation. thanks for the information Purplealabaster . this is a great help for me, sometimes i just need to be reminded even though i have read about it before, i tend to forget due to a lot of things i am taking care of hehehe. thanks and happy mylotting.

hmmm i get a best response from time to time and also sometimes there is like an increase in my earnings, like a $.01 increase, it is a very small amount, you can barely feel the increase heheh so i don't really bother to know what is going on, if it has something to do with the best response or not.

Hello livecenter, Your reputation increases or decreases when someone rates you - or + else there is no other way your reputation get effected.Best responses are the ones which is selected by the discussion starter from the responses he get.It happens normally if the person has selected your response the best then he would have given it + rating secondly every one who had read it would also have given + rating for it from there you would have benefited & your reputation increased marginally. Congrats for it.
