Does the Country of Mylotters Affect if You Will Add/Accept them?

Here at mylot, we enjoy participating in discussions. We also like the fact that we can make new friends and have an enjoyable conversation with them through discussions. But did it ever happen to you, or is it happening to you, that sometimes the place where someone here came from affected/affects if you will add/accept him/her as a friend?
I noticed that most people here are from US, Philippines, India, and other countries. But based on my observation (just my plain observation) most are from these three countries. I must admit that when it comes to people from the same country as mine, I feel confident adding/accepting them as friends here. But if I would add people from other countries, sometimes I'm a bit hesitant. Not that I am worrying about anything but there is just this feeling of being uncomfortable that I just can't explain. But now, I'm trying to add new friends who I would love to discuss things here with. I think expanding friends is a great way to discover more here.
What about you guys? Did it ever happen to you? What can you say?

It makes absolutely no difference at all to me from which country a person, online or off, comes from. We all belong to the same race and we are all brothers and sisters and it is just chance that we happen to be in a particular place when we are born.
How do we know from where a user is anyway? In our profiles it says 'location' which is not the same as 'place of birth'. Many people are typing from a different place from where they were born and unless they tell us, we are not to know.
For me skin colour is not a reason for accepting or not accepting a person. Where do we draw the line? Their skin might be different from mine but then so could be the colour of their eyes and the colour of their hair. Their beliefs and cultures might be different too but only because I, and not necessarily 'they', was raised in a different country.
My sister is in US because she married an American and I am in Italy because I married (and divorced) an Italian but we are both English born and raised. I'm sure that many others now reside in another country which is not the one where they were born and raised but so what? When we are born we are all exactly the same and it is only later that circumstances change us but that does not mean that everyone from one country is better or worse than those from another one surely?

Hi mysdianait!
Uhmm.. no I'm not a racist. I love everyone. Yup! You're right. There's only one race and that is HUMAN RACE... The reason maybe I don't feel so comfortable is... I'm a little shy...
Anyways, I love all myLotters! Specially active ones! In every place, there are good people and bad people. I never mean anything like guys from ************************* are bad and those from ********************* are good. It's just this crazy little feeling of mine...
Uhhhhh... I'm an angel now...

Well you got a point there. When people all come from the same country, sometimes they share almost the same ideas. Unlike when with those from other countries, we are able to share different cultures and learn how things are going on the other side of the planet..

Hello banny Banzie,
There's no discrimination here. when i first got here, it was the foreign veterans who were the first become my friends. lately, i have slowly adding filipino mylotters, but after that backstabbing incident by a fellow pinoy lotter, i shielded myself hanging out with the foreigners. not until the last years mylot conference. just don't intervenve when it comes to foreigners politics most specially American Politics

discussions as I learned I just get insulted and hurt and why risk that.

Well, I guess it's some sort of just personal issue going on inside my head. Anyways, let's all have fun here. Love one another!
And about politics.... nOOooo!!! I don't even talk about Philippine politics. I hate politics... it's so complicated for me... not for a child like me..
Anyways, once again guys! Let's all love one another!

When I get a friend request, I check the profile to see if they have participated at all. The only time the country comes into play is in some of my responses. I am from the US and sometimes things here aren't the same as other countries. We have things here that some countries don't have and before I give advice or whatever, I sometimes check to see where they are from.

Hi brain..
Yeah, sometimes it's hard to give advice to people from other countries due to different situations of life. It's nice to know that people here like you gives considerations to others by checking first where they are from to give them fit advice.
Happy myLotting and see you around!

Actually for me it is not a big deal there from part of the world because I have to time to check first his/her profile before I accepting or requesting being a friend here. I think it is not affect, only one observed here some of other countries which not actively participating because of language barrier may be they are not prepared fo english discussion.
One time I remember one mylotter said that she is Chinese and welling to be active here but she admit not fluent or not known english language, so only that I obsevered I don't know the other...

Hello Bannybanzie,
I am from INDIA and i never checked a person's country before adding him/her in my friend's list.Though i think most of the friends here on MYLOT for me are not from INDIA as still i have not checked their profiles. I don't think i become more confident when discuss something to the person of my country. This is discussion site and i always like to discuss things & read responses does not matter for me if the person writting that response is from CHINA,UK or US.No feeling of uncomfortness for me for that. And i suggest you too also not to feel like this.. Be confident always discussing with anyone. Happy Mylotting.

Hi sjvg!
Well... usually, when someone adds me, I'd check their profile and accept them. I only feel a little uncomfy when it comes to adding. Anyways, you're right. We're here to enjoy discussing things and it's nice to hear opinions from all over the world! I think I'm slowly getting off this attitude of mine..
Thanks!

Hello BB,
Its nice to hear that slowly you are getting off the attitude of yours.
All the best & enjoy MYLOT next time if you add user in your friends list do check their profile but don't see from which country they are from and think as if they are from the same country from which you are this will bring in more confidence in you when you discuss something with them.

I don't let where the person is from affect my decision in accepting their friendship or not. What does affect my decision is what type of discussions they start or how they respond to others discussions. If I find them to be a decent person then I'll add them however, if they're not and instead are mean then I will not accept them. It all boils down to how the person is but never because of where they're from. I'm an open book. I like everybody until they do me wrong then they're deleted off of my friends list.

When I get a friend request, I check the member's profile just to make sure that he did not join Mylot just to spam. In fact, I have 4 pending friend requests that I have not accepted (nor denied) because I am still waiting for them to participate in the discussions. They currently have (0) beside their names and it has been months since their invitation.
Sometimes I check the country where they are from when I see something in their post that made me curious. Like when they talk about customs. Mylot is also a learning experience for me.
Have a nice day!

I don't add a mylotter because s/he comes from my country or not.
I add mylotters because I want to be friend with them, and want to have fun with them.
This is one way of knowing each other, our differences and make friends all over the globe.
As long as one respect each other and never say anything bad..it's fine with me.

Yeah.. mixing people from different countries and make them answer the same question is like a great "halo-halo drink" (it's mixed things, like bananas, corn, jelly, coconut, ice, milk). All ingredients may differ from taste, but create a great tasting snack.

I am afraid I differ with you on this matter.I like to make friends with those who come from Britain and America. The reason why I do so is that I want to improve my English and learn to idiom English.Of course ,many people that come from other place are good at English too, but theirs more or less bears regionalism.

yEAH... Since America and England are the places of native English (specially England, the "English" people), we would really learn a lot about using English with interacting with them.

Yeah, here in mylot, a lot of people are into making money online. At least we can help one another, right?

Well, we should all be nice! right? Oh dear, you're from China! Looking at your picture I was like.. "Ahhh.. cute boy, this one's from China. It's obvious".. But guess what.. I would never think you're from China if it would be your name. 'cause I see a lot of Chinese here and their names are very Chinese.. Yours is not..

I really don't care about the nationality of friends in here. I'd accept all invitation for friendship regardless of that. Actually it is not an assurance that people of the same country will have the same interests. That is not actually true because people have diverse interest and similarities of interests do not rest on your culture always. So to me any nationality is welcome to be my friends here at mylot.

I accept friend requests from any country in the world, and I get excited when I receive a friend request from a country where I don't have any friends yet, because I would like to find friends from any part of the world So many countries are represented here and I think that is a really great thing. It makes the discussions a lot more interesting and we are able to learn from eachother.
I have a few Danish friends, but most of my friends are from other parts of the world. It is easy for me to talk to other Danes in my offline life, but my international friends I only meet online, and I really appreciate the chance to talk to people from other countries when I visit MyLot.

When I do actually get around to adding/accepting friends again(eventually), I think that country is the furthest thing from my concern. And really that is something that is a rather petty reason not to add someone to begin with. When we are online, we are pretty much citizens of the world and countries are something that just add color to our background. I think that myLot is one of those great places where we can all get together and get along or at least try to.
There are many times where there are boundaries for culture that are rather bad but really shouldn't really matter that much online. When I start accepting people again, it is really something that is so far down the list that it is really not on the list at all. I would try to see if they were a valuable member of the community, not someone who just friends everyone to try and get in their good graces, so they can PM spam. That really gets on my nerves.

Hi megamatt!
Yeah.. you're right. I think what matters more is what the members contribute to the mylot community. We can't totally say that everyone here is here for the same reason as why most of us are here - and that is to enjoy while we earn. With all the bad guys around the net, they use almost every way to spam others.
Anyways, let's all have a good time here in mylot!!!!

Gosh if that were true for me I would not have the 815 listed friends. I do not consider a country when I accept friends. When I first came here I did not come with any friends and I did not know anyone on myLot. I began receiving friend requests like crazy. I accepted everyone immediately even without looking at their profiles.
These days though I do not reject, I do leave a few in pending if we have never interacted before. I get loads of requests daily from a lot of members I have never even seen and or interacted with. I can't help but wonder why they requested. I am one person and can't keep up with everyone's discussion as time is of the essence. If their interests and or topics are not in common with me then I do not see a point in being on a FR list. I often tell members to take their time in requesting because if we cannot respond to their discussions they will feel ignored. I interact with a lot of members continually who are not on my friend list. I do not pick and choose members, I rather pick and choose topics when it comes to my responding.
Some of my closets friends here are from third world countries, whom I have grown very fond of. It is a joy to learn about their customs, culture and traditions.
