In 2007 i bought my own notebook computer, it is a neo hg31l. Some of my colleagues discouraged me from buying it because of its bad reputation. They said that it is prone to damages and easily overheats. That it was also fragile, one hard fall and its gonna be byebye. I still have with me my neo and so far I experience no serious trouble except the discharged battery (from constant plug in even when fully charged). I agree that brand name counts, but i think it is how well one use and take care of their notebook that makes it endure longer. What is your thought on this?

I'm really a brand conscious person and i don't care paying for a high price as long as the product lives up to what it has promised and to my expectation. I'm a very careless person and i'm not good in taking good care of my things. So when i buy electronics i make sure i buy the one that can withstand my carelessness.

i am also careless in a different way, my ASUS Desktop motherboard is getting dust all over the motherboard up to it's casings, spider webs accumulating to the internal parts and i don't care to clean up, and my Desktop Computer is still working up to now for almost more than 3 years.... i truly salute awesome ASUS brand of computers.....

I'm not a fan of Asus. I have tried several laptops already. I have toshiba (still working for 6 years now and has never ever bugged down), Asus (sad to say the LCD screen is broken with dark marks so ihad to give it to my 5 year old nephew for playing simple games), HP (video card is broken after two years), acer (the web camera went loose after a year) and Sony (the assembly fan was defective, has been replaced and is now working fine)! Last December I wanted to get a MacBook pro but waited for a little while because suddenly apple upgraded again. So now I'm waiting for the next upgrade before getting another one.

I am totally agree with you that good care makes all the things in a good and perfect condition. And this is very good news that from 2007 to till now you did not found any serious problem in your notebook. you are lucky but it is going to overtake 3 years so problem may occur. Best of luck.

So far i have only one disappointment, the 512Mb memory. It's kind of dragging sometimes with a lot of apps and exes running.

ASUS laptop battery i think doesn't wear out... i brought this last year, on May 2010, but the unit manufactured at Feb 2010... it's already more than 1 year, today is July 2011.... but the laptop battery doesn't wear out, still the battery runs at around 2 hours and 30 minutes of operational at maximum power settings.... therefore, if you have to buy a new Laptop, you can choose ASUS Brand.... ever since before and up to now, i never experience heat in the laptop's casings....

My neo heats a bit also but not much, though i haven't tried making overnight downloads. A friend of mine with same neo model had it work overnight downloading movies, songs, etc, only damaging it to the point that it became useless....mine hadn't experience such overwork...I think my only lapse is overcharging the battery..
