Do any of you use unique ways to save money? What ways do you use? I usually reuse grocery bags as waste can bags so I dont have to buy as many trash bags. This saves me money. I also buy every thing I can at dollar stores. What do you do?

I do not have cable. At all. Where I live that is incredibly unusual, as even the poorest of the poor who rely on welfare still pay for cable television! In my household, we do not watch tv, we have some dvd movies and a few Sesame Street dvds my daughter watches, and we do not miss tv at all.

When I go grocery shopping for meats I separate them into freezer bags and after using the meat I will wash the freezer bags out and reuse them. I also use the grocery bags for trash bags. I go to thrift stores as well as yard sales as often as I can. I always try to hit the clearance sales after the season ends. I clip coupons and cherry pick the sales at the grocery stores in the area. I am also notorious for buying store brand if it is cheaper and I don't have coupons for the name brands. Some things I will not do this for is toilet paper. I buy the Scott 1000 roll tp and it lasts longer than the other brands. I normally stock up on this when it goes on sale. In our home we have shut off all the vents to the rooms not used and we keep the temperature control at a certain temp and we don't touch it. The curtains stay closed most of the day. The heat outside is up into the 100's on certain days and the curtains help to block the sunlight coming into the house. This helps keep it cooler. I cook more casseroles and use less meat this way. I am also a big crock pot cooker. This saves on dishes as well as it does not heat up the house the way using the oven would. We consolidate trips to the grocery store with trips to the doctor once a month for Walmart & Save-A-Lot. If there is a sale at the two local grocery stores I combine those trips together to get the best fuel efficiency. I hang clothes out instead of using the dryer and we use cold water in the washer as well. These are just a few things we do.

I am trying to be very frugal and save money wherever possible. We have been more careful about wasting food, reusing things where possible, etc. I hang dry our laundry and try to use towels more than once before washing them. All my son's clothes are handmedowns.

I reuse grocery bags and do not buy trash bags....it does save money. I also buy stuff that are on sale like clothes or buy them cheaper at ebay. I sell old stuff that are still in good condition but do not need them or can't wear them again online to get an extra income. I buy items in packs on wholesale price instead of retail it's cheaper.

hi oscar. we do the same, we use the supermarket bags as trash bags already and that meant we no longer need to buy trash bags which are very costly nowadays and it won't even be filled as the trash is being picked up from our home every 2 days.
I also save money by not buying bottled drinks, i used to drink a lot of iced tea and well i just stopped now and wow. it sure is a great saving.
We however have a lot of pet bottles from my brother's coke zero addiction and we are able to sell each 1.5 liter empty bottle for 1 peso. we have like 10 every week and for a month that is about 50pesos. another bottle of coke! :D which is not bad!

Things i do that im not sure if they are unique or not...
I plant my own garden, try to do as much of my yardwork and fix it things myself rather than getting someone else to. I unplug any appliances im not using (ghost power usage lowered then) Make sure lights are turned off when im not in a room. Dry clothes on a line in the summer.
Use shopping bags for trash bags or reuse them at the store...places here charge 5 to 10 cents a bag these days.
Coupons/sales/ Sell stuff im not using on kijiji or facebook buy and sell for my area. Buy bulk items and go halvesies with a friend or family member.
Use the library alot for books and movies. Use plastic containers instead of baggies. Or reuse the baggies after washing them out.
Recycle pop cans. Do recycling of tins cardboardplastics and paper - the more i can drop off to the recycling the fewer garbage bags i have to pay for to go to the dump. Garbage to the dump for rural residents here is 1.50 per bag....and if its soemthing like a couch or a fridge its 20 -30 dollars an item.
