I've been wondering where everyone thinks the best places are to find new icons? I like to make them when I have the time, but I run out of inspiration pretty quickly - if any of you make your own, what inspires you? Which programmes do you use? And where do you get your images from? I'm always really paranoid about taking someone else's images.

Get Photoshop if you'd like to make your own :D Just browse through some tutorials on the net there are lot of them so you could know your way around the controls at PS. If you'd like to grab some icons there are a lot of graphics community over at Livejournal where you can go get 100x100 icons for your own personal use you could use the icons outside of LJ if it's allowed and if the size is appropriate. Don't worry about taking images just as long as you're not using it for commercial use or selling them the owner won't probably mind though if they mention something about having to ask first go ahead and inquire. :)

Thanks for your help. I've got photoshop, but I'm a total novice at using it! I'll have to look into tutorials since right now my photoshop skills consist of being able to layer, install brushes, and stick on a colour adjustment. And that's it! Yeah, I had a quick look after reading your post and found lots on Livejournal, including a HP group that provides "stock images" and "bases" that you're allowed to build on to make your own icons. No commercial uses, just personal use
