When I was thinking for the course that I will take in College, I based it on my passion and if it's in-demand, I search the internet.. Number 1 is Nursing, (i don't like this, because I hate to see blood and I can't comfort patient's with disease), Number 2 is HRS(Hotel and Restaurant Management) - I also don't like this because cooking hates me, Number 3 is Business Administration - I like it but the school where I've inquired doesn't offered this course and the Fourth one is Information Technology, this is my First choice, I like computers, I love Programming but I don't like to pursue it anymore, maybe because, nowadays there are hundred of thousands of graduates of I.T. who are unemployed..
Maybe after one year, i will take another course,, myLot co-members Please Help me DECIDE???
Thanks

When one has passion in one area, it doesn't matter if there are a lot of competition, one would excel. I chose my college degree not based on practicality principle or the demand in the job environment. I chose it because i knew i would enjoy studying it and somehow i could find my own way in a competitive world having excelled in school and went to one of the best universities.
I really cannot help you much on how to decide because it seems that you have your own guidelines. Follow what you think is right and do what you think cater most to your needs.

The above information you've mentioned are right! And I think it's better if you'll take up an engineering course for it's always in demand esp.abroad. Engineering course is great and you can work easily for lots of company are looking for engineers.
- Industrial Engineering
- Electronics and Communication Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
You can choose in this engineering courses. :)

hello Arnel,
When i decided to take up Fine Arts,it's not the "in demand" course that drives me to choose what to study.
I choose my course because that is my passion.
I always has this in mind,to choose the field/career that I am interested with.
It will not be easy for me to work to any fields that is not related to my interest and passion.
Well,we differ in our views and opinion.
So,take and decide what is your choice and what really gives you your interest.
you will get to know what you want in the process too.

Hi Arnel, I had same confusions at college on what i should pursue, it should be both my passion and advanced. IT is real good line if you really love programs, then you can survive very well. The recession has set many IT's jobless. But it is not bad. I would recommend I.T. You can slowly research about this and IT is wonderful field from my experience. Cheers! All the best Arnel!

Had I known that learning a new language will make me earn a lot of money, I would have taken a foreign language course in college. I am currently in the BPO industry and most of my multi-lingual colleagues have salaries that would match what our managers have.
How I wish that we have career orientations in high school that would encourage courses that have high potential of employment after graduating. I really don’t know why a lot of people are thinking that having a 4-year course is the only way to get employment. They don’t know that the high paying jobs overseas are those offered at technical schools. http://en.wikipilipinas.org/index.php?title=Top_10_Overseas_Jobs_for_Filipinos_in_2010
Assess yourself what you like to do and your interests. It would be useless and I guarantee it will only make you feel unhappy in the end if you've chosen a course that you aren't interested at all. Be good at something, turn it into a skill and employers will be coming after you. Good Luck!

Hello Arnel_24,
Basically its your choice.I would suggest to go in to the field in which you have more interest also you should check that there should be the scope in future of the course you select.
In my opinion an engineering degree with Masters in Business administration is the best in market and one should opt for it if he has some interest in engineering.
You should go for IT i feel.Don't get afraid of the competition if you really have the guts & potential you will never see yourself in the millions who are unemployed in IT sector. Also it was the time of recession when many people got unemployed may be in future there will be boom in IT sector and people will be required in IT sector.
But whatever course you select always take interest in it don't always study to just pass in the exams always try to gain knowledge from your course.
