Working for peanuts

I have recently taken on a job that is $3 dollars an hour to write articles, I know that my writing is worth move than that but at the moment cash flow is very slow so I am having to take what I can get. When was the last time you have to swallow your pride and under sell yourself?

Basically any of us that freelance are doing that, I believe. I have not seen it on an hourly basis, but when you work for a penny a word, that is the same thing. If I had a regular gig like that I would be pleased. I may find that I will have to take minimum wage if I ever find another job.

Harsh times Gerty, I have spent a hell of a long time on odesk applying for as many jobs as I could. A lot of them turn out to be duds. Keep your chin up you'll find one.

I try never to under sell myself. If a client asks for well below my price range for work then I just dont accept the offer. I think that three dollars an hour is way too low! There are so many other people that will pay you a lot more if you are good at writing. I would recommend checking out sites like Associated Content. I can easily make 10-12 dollars an hour on this site.

I wouldn't recommend writing articles for $3 per hour unless they are very short like a paragraph review or so. But multiple 400 to 500 word articles heecck no! If that's what you're doing, you could earn more off revenue sharing sites. But hey, it you just really need that cash now and it's helping make a difference in your life now, then more power to ya.

yer there just short reviews for a blog so its not too bad, but it does help towards the bills

I'm doing pretty much the same thing at the moment and I jut see it as a means to an end. Freelance writing isn't the easiest of careers to get into and from my point of view, I have to get the experience from somewhere. I write more for the article writing sites. They won't pay a fortune to begin with but by building up a large bank of articles, I can begin to earn a regular income and my efforts are starting to pay off to a degree. If you're retain the copyright to the articles then you can use them for other sites and by writing variations of the articles you can perhaps start to pitch them to other publications that pay much more.

Clever stuff Jane, I got my experience from writing articles for $1. At 400 words an article I did not think it was that hard but after you've written 15-20 articles your mind really starts to go blank and you think is it worth it? I ditched that job quite quickly lol, what sites do you write for?

That my friend is some good luck right there, but you clearly impressed with your hard work at the early stages of your job. So well done, it's always nice to see people succeeding in life. It makes success seem a little more possible.

I tell you what it's not that hard to find other jobs that will pay you more if you have a specialized advantage over other writers in a specific field. Be sure man that there is absolutely NO CHANCE of there being another opportunity for you that at LEAST pays $5 an hour.
