just can’t let it be that way

The other day, as I was walking home into our place in the subdivision, I passed by a leaking water meter. It was outside the house of our neighbor, who barely goes out of the house. I tried to ignore it, continued walking nearly reaching our house.
However, my conscience stopped me. I went back to our neighbor’s and before I knew it, I was ringing their doorbell. The Iranian boyfriend came out and I told him about it. He immediately went out to check and thanked me.
There, I left him, with a clear conscience that I have done well for others’ welfare.
If you were in my shoes, would you have done the same too?

I definitely would've done the same, because if I was in other people's shoes, I would like the favor returned to me. It's nice to know that we still have honest and helpful people in this world, that care about others and not only of themselves. Your neighbor is lucky that he has a next door neighbor like you and should be greatful that you noticed that, because if not he would've gotten a big surprise when he got that bill.

Nice to know that we're on same boat here.
Yes, they are lucky indeed that it was me who saw it. If not, they could have discovered it the next day, if ever they go out of the house. Their water bill could have increased enormously.

Definitely, they would've received a nice surprise in that water bill.
I just wish that there were more honest people in this world today, it would definitely be a better place!!!

Out here where we live, we don't have a water bill per se. Once a year, city hall will calculated how much water consumption our city had, and it gets divided to however many home and property owners, and it gets paid through our property tax.
Seeing something like you did, I would definitely tell the owner of the house. Or I could maybe take it upon myself to turn the leaking water off. Every little bit of saving goes a long way in the reduction of our tax payment.

Had it been that the leak was caused by a faucet forgotten to be turned off, i could have turned it off my self. But the leak was something that is technical so i had to really tell the owner.

Thank for being like me on this too. Nice to know that you would do the same .
Gestures such as this makes us so happy. Even if unrecognized, at least our conscience is clear that we have done a good deed.

Such things are routine with me. Being a pro active I bump into such things often. I am mostly concerned with public utilities such as dirty roads, phone lines lying around, a light that is not working, etc.

Nice of you to be like that. Sometimes, we have to do our share of being good citizens. Makes this world a better place to live if people will all be like us.

Oh definitely! It will only give you good karma. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. :)

Would you believe that the woman (they are just 2 in that house) would always let me ride with her , in going out to where i always take my jeepney ride , on some mornings , as i pass with her in the car readying to go. We only know each other by name, but we never know each others' name. So, i guess, that gives me the courage to ring their doorbell to tell them of the leaking water meter.
Next time, i really plan to introduce ourselves formally.

Thanks for saying that. I guess, knowing that God knows that i have seen it, yet will not do anything , makes me ashamed of myself. Besides, really ,my conscience will not let me just leave it that way.
Yes, i believe in the saying "Do unto others, as you would like others do unto you".

It's easy to do it, specially if your motto is "do unto others what you would like others do unto you" and you have in mind that God has seen you.

THank you. We all can be like that . We simply just always think, God sees every action, good or bad , that we do.

Today in this fast moving world people live a very buzy life. They rarely get time to bother about others.Only handful of people look after such things and you did it, hats off to you. Even I do it when I observe such a thing.Helping others without expectations is a great job done by you.Its wonderful you shared this on mylot so that people who are not bothered will ponder upon this.
