Looking at food can make you fat.

Scientist just may have proven what some people have suspected for a long time that just by looking at food can make you fat. A weight loss specialist discovered this after measuring the reactions in a group of formerly fat people to a thick, juicy sizzling steak sizzling on a grill in front of them. Blood samples was taken as they watched the steak cooking. It was found that those who were responsive to the steak cooking had high levels of insulin release. Being turned on just by the sight of the food set their metabolic process in motion. Insulin accelerates the intake of fat into the cells, so the more insulin that is secreted, the faster the fat will be stored. So if the sight of luscious food turns your craving to switch on, you might want to be somewhat more vigilant in your weight loss program.

Oh no! I didn't know that just by looking at food can make you fat. Anyway, I guess it's not always true. Maybe for some it is true but for some it isn't.

Yes, it could not always be true.Perhaps the problem starts when we respond to the food that we are looking at. And it doesn't happen to many of us because we are already in the process of eating them even before we have the chance of responding to these foods that we see.

Sizzling steak - Do you crave as you see?
Well that sounds interesting but I can't really believe that looking at the food alone can make you fat. Of course if the person who is looking at the food has so much fat stored in his body already then I think this study could apply to him. But if the person is fit enough I think no amount of looking can ever affect her weight. I believe that in normal cases, unless you convert your craving into eating then just looking at the food will not affect your weight at all.

hi my dear friend, this is really amazing to me that looking at food can make us fat. in my house, i am the cook and my family is a big foodie. they like all sort of deep fried items. they love oily and rich food. they are fat, no doubt but they are fat not because they look at me cooking, they are fat because they are eating all that stuff. they are diabetic but they are ok with their living style and life style. what all i know about insulin is that it helps regulating carbohydrate and fat metabolism in the body. so..., well whatever, i dont eat much of fried but i think i should not even smell now, lol .

Now they tell us that eye candy can make us fat. I need to loose 10 kilos. I guess I had better stop looking at yummy treats.

Wow! Interesting! Maybe I should start for restaurant visits and passing by dining areas often. Would it be able to make me gain weight? I'll try to savor the appearance of my food first and check if I'll get good results. I need those mouth watering dishes over to look at!

Looking at food doesn't make you fat, eating food makes you fat. I know what you are saying, and it's more of an excuse to say "I just look at food and gain weight." It's a way of blaming our obesity on something else but our own habits. I agree with one of your posters... cook a steak in front of people in a starving situation, weigh them before smelling the steak and weigh them afterward? Did they gain? I highly doubt it. You have to get the food in you to gain weight. I agree that insulin does what you posted, but the test is misleading people to think that seeing food makes them gain weight.

I doubt the relation between insulin and fat deposition. What I knew is insulin is used by our body to turn glucose into energy. If our body lacks insulin as in cases of diabetes,it will start to utilize fat and muscles. In the absence of insulin, glucose will not be converted into energy, stays in the blood stream, and will be excreted by the kidneys, causing lose of weight in diabetics. In the case that there is no actual consumption of food, how can the body stores fat with just the increase of insulin level, without actual source of glucose?Maybe the body can use it's stored fat, which in turns lead to weight lose.
