Teacher keeps changing her mind...

My daughter has been in her new school for a month so she can finish her second grade year. The teach has them do their spelling words in a journal. So they have to write them twice in alphabetical order, sentences, vowels, etc. She wated them to do a collage as well, but it was optional. I mentioned to the teacher we dont have magazines so it would be hard for us to do. A couple other kids had the same problem. Now suddenly she wants everyone to do the collage or they get in trouble. So we looked through the coupld catalogs that come to the house, but could only find one word. She also chooses words where I dont know where these kids will find them. Aqua, okay maybe in this catalog, nope. Quails, qoutation, are you kidding me? Than after we had been doing things a certain way she decides its wrong and start marking it wrong in my daughters book. Why was it okay the first 4 weeks and now its not? I cant wait to home school where I know what is going on and my kid isnt being confused on what to do and how to do it. I guess Ill write the teacher a note and explain again we dont have magazines and im not wasiting ink to print out something for her to hopefully find one word.

hye tink,i wanna give some opinion about your statement "teacher keeps changing your daughter mind ". Before that can i ask you what subject that give your daughter confused ? correct me if i'm wrong ok - school is the medium where student learn how to think and take action. So you not need to worried more about this matter. How about you just let your daughter think by herself. Internet is the best way to find what ever your daughter want but you must monitor it. I think your daughter teacher want to see until what level your daughter can solve the problem.

I dont know if you read the post. The teacher keeps changing her mind on how she wants the work done. So its hard for us to do the work correctly, when she keeps changing her mind on how should it be. One week its right the next week its wrong. I let my daughter think on her own, I encourage it. Its hard to satisfy a teacher when she cant decide on how she wants the assignment done.

now i know your problem. The problem is not on your daughter side but it came from the teacher. Normally, teacher task is guide student to complete their work not to make the task complicated. I really dont understand what is the teacher objective to do that action to your daughter.

Teachers can be very unreasonable in their demands like every year, the kids are asked to paste pictures of family members on a book to show their family tree. I mean, every year? Then there is this crazy Science teacher who, out of the blue, assigned the kids to catch and bring many butterflies to be mounted on a frame. Isn't this crazy?

I dont know what teachers are thinking. I think they assign things that are unreasonable. You have to put in fact the parents have to help. At the end of the day the child is tired of school stuff, the parents are tired and trying to get dinner on the table, plus anything else that needs to get done before bed and than they want to add hours of homework, assignments that are hard to complete with no clear instructions, its crazy. The pics its sems my daughter has done this a lot as well and shes in 2nd grade. My kids know who their family is do we really need to share this every year to remind them? The butterflies is crazy. So what happens if you cant catch any? Also its okay to teach the kids to go catch and kill them to frame them? I think its better if they find a pic of a buttefly eaither they take it themself or find one online or even better find a pic and draw the butterfly and take that in with the name of the butterfly. This allows the child to do most the work themself. I spend a lot of time with my kids, but as any parent we need a break and lets face it half the stuff they assign the kids fight. So now were all aggitated. Makes me more anxious to home school.

These types of things seem to keep happening within the school systems and that is why I chose to home school my children. I am thankful to have them home and I enjoy spending the time together that we get too. I am also thankful that I can have some control over what they learn and how they learn.

I am so looking forward to home schooling next year. It will give us the freedom to do things, visit family, explore, etc. Most of all it will keep the confusion out. My kids will know what to expect, because I know what i want and how i want it done. Were going through a charter school and picking their work for next year was wonderful. I chose things that will keep their attention, some stuff they can do together and things they are interested in. Im exicted and scared, but feel it will be a much better experience in all.

The solution would be for the teacher to not confuse her students by changing her mind on subjects and writing out clearly in a letter to the parents what she expects in her assignments.

Tink, there are lots of free fonts available online. If I were in your position, I would just open Paint and type up the list of words in different fonts and sizes, then print them out on one sheet and cut them out to make a collage. If the teacher has a problem with it, tell her you are working with the things you have on hand. I think I would also be having a discussion with the school administrators about the sudden change in the assignment. She can't tell the students it's okay to do something one way for a month, then suddenly change her mind.

My daughter missed a recess yesterday to work on her collage in class with articles the teacher had and than she explained you can cut out each letter and make the word. I dont understand why this wasnt info giving to us before. She said to find the words, not make the word. Nothing is written down and sent home with the child either, so Im going word of mouth from my daughter. Its very frustrating. I did write a note to the teacher in her book. Im just glad school is almost done. I dont know if anyone would care to tell you the truth. Im sure this isnt the first time the teacher has given directions than changed them without notice. I cant wait to home school.

This sounds like an awful teacher. I have no idea why she would be making things so difficult for the kids. Maybe you can try cutting out the letters individually to make up the words? But I think your best bet is to be honest with the teacher and tell her she is being unreasonable, you can't be expected to complete a collage or change things at the last minute!

Funny you mention cutting out the letters. My daughter went to school today with her spelling journal and the little note I wrote. My daughter had to stay in during recess to work on the collage where the teacher mentions, its okay to cut out the letters and make the words, in fact thats what she wants. Why didnt she mention it before? Why are her ways of wanting stuff done so confusing? She changes her mind and than dosent make it clear how she wants things done. To me it does seem like shes making it harder on the students and adults. My daughter is in school all day she dosent want to come home and spend hours on homework.
