Very Bad Knee Pain

I am a very active basketball player and have been for the past 3 years. last november (2010) I started having some minor pain in my knees. At first motrin took care of it, but after a couple weeks it stopped helping. Then I got some Jumper's Knee straps that helped for a couple more weeks, but those too lost effectiveness. The pain got worse and worse to the point that I could no longer play in March 2011. After taking 2 weeks off I went and played again without any pain, but after a 2 hour workout I had some pain in my upper left shin, just below my knee. Soon after I got the same pain on my right shin, and after about a week my knee pain was also back, worse than before. I saw a doctor who said I had Runner's Knee, so I took 6 weeks off to heal. After returning to exercise after 6 weeks the pain was not only still there, it was worse. The most recent doctor I saw told me I have jumper's knee and he basically said that there's no treatment except ice and ibuprofen. I already take 4 ibuprofen every 4 hours and I ice 3 times daily, as well as doing my stretching and physical therapy daily. Is there anything else I can do, or am I just stuck suffering with knee pain my whole life? By the way, quitting basketball is not an option.

That sucks man I recommend you see a doctor then because that is the best advice you're going to receive. I do recommend that you also rest your knee and try not to do any exercise as it could get worse if you strain it any more.

I've already been to 3 different doctors, they've all said there's nothing I can do and that rest will not help. I already tried taking 6 weeks off without exercise and that did not give any relief to the pain.
