Which kind of dogs do you prefer: The small or big type?

There are so many breeds of dogs in the world, but if we are to categorize them in 2, there are the "small" and "big" types. Examples of "small" types are the chihuahua, shih-tzu, toy poodle, pomeranian, etc. The "big" types are the golden retriever, labrador, german shepherd, chowchow, siberian husky, etc. Personally, I used to choose small types over big types. I own 3 shih-tzus and a toy poodle. But as time passed by, I gained a liking on the big type more. So I got a Belgian Malinois. And now I want a Chowchow or a Golden Retriever. Which type do you prefer, and why?

I prefer the big kind - in my experience they are fun loving and more friendly than the small types. A Labrador is just adorable, and a Husky is breathtakingly beautiful. I live an active lifestyle and canine that can keep up and enjoy it with me is best! Somehow I can't see the short legs of the Pomeranian getting them very far. Small dogs can be awkward - the show cut of poodles has always seemed odd to me, and the unique look of the Chihuahua is not for me. All of the small dogs I know bark at anything that moves. It is as if they know they are small and vulnerable and are very aggressive from fear because of it. Finally, considering where I live, big dogs are just more practical. I live in the country and there is the occasional cougar sighting. It wouldn't be right to get a small, vulnerable dog with this in mind. A large, aggressive dog stands a chance of maybe scaring the cougar away, but you can forget about the little dog.

I like your answer! I could not agree with you more. Big dogs are more practical, and I also find some small dogs odd, especially chihuahuas.

It's amazing how all of these breeds are all dogs, yet so different.

I love all types of dogs but if I could have my own dog then I would choose to have a big dog. When I went to visit my aunt, I would always go to sleep with her pit bull and she is a great sleeping partner and doesn't move around much once she's asleep. I worry that if it was her pug that I went to sleep with I would squash him. Little dogs are cute too though.

I already experienced having different breeds and sizes of dog from small, medium and large. Before we used to have 8 dogs and in different breeds and sizes too. From big category we have a german shepherd, american bulldog and a chow-chow. From small categories we have 4 chihuahuas and a shitzhu. From all the dogs I would say i prefer the small ones because they are handy easy to take care and correct me if im wrong they are more defensive from you and always want your attention specially chihuahua but as i see every dog have different character, the larger ones are more tamer than the small ones. It really depends on you because for who you are would reflect the character of the dog.

basing on my size as a person, I would really prefer to own small dogs. they look too cute and adorable. Just like you I currently own 3 malshies and im about to add 2 more. However as time passes by, I wanted to own an Akito or any big dogs. I don't know I find them more loyal that those demanding little ones. But because my dad doesnt want me to get big ones, i have to stick to small ones. Maybe when i will have my own family, i will then get a big one. :)

I like smaller dogs because they are so adorable and easy to handle and they need lesser food as well. But I wouldn't adopt one because i fear that something will happen to it if i step on it accidentally. So they are always at risk.I always prefer pariah dogs because they are available free of cost and they have high immunity power so that i dont need to take it to vet every now and then.

I have always find German Shepard very majestic looking. And if situation permits, I would definitely love to keep one. Most of the people in my country lives in a flat. With the restricted space that we have, it is unwise to keep such a big dog. Beside, the government would not issue a license in this case.

I prefer small breeds because they are far easier to handle and control. I sometimes have bad experiences with larger breeds. Once I had a German Shepard that I really loved, but we couldn't handle having him because we lived in a small apartment :S

Oh, that's right. If you live in an apartment, small dogs would be better for you.

I prefer bigger dogs. they're more cuddly, you can really get your arms round them and snuggle up. and they usually have much calmer, more laid back personalities. we have a deerhound. they're pretty big. growing up, I had a german shepherd and a great dane, both lovely dogs. German Shepherds are particularly great dogs to have around children, as they are gentle, loyal and protective. then later we had greyhounds, and now the lurcher and deerhound.

I like big dogs but I prefer the smaller ones. Big dogs scare me. Little dogs are more app to bite but they do not do much damage. I big dog all it takes is one bite and they can do some serious damage. They really scare me around kids. Have a Blessed Day

I think it is important to choose a size of a dog after how much time you can spend with it. What is the purpose for having it. Are you going on dog shows? Are you going to breed puppies, or are you a very physical active person. A big dog needs more exercises than a small dog. Are you a family with many small children, you have to make your choice. I think there are much to put under consideration, when getting a dog. At least that is what I do. At the moment I do not have a dog. But in the future I plan to have a dog. For some years ago I had dwarf poodles. Very handsome and intelligent dogs. Really good for training agility. I like big dogs, but I choose a dog after my family situation.

I prefer neither.Nor the smaller ones nor the bigger ones. And i will never have a dog as a pet.Instead i will have a cat or goat or a horse or may be even a tiger but never a dog.Just not because i hate them but because i fear them.Specially their sharp teeths make me run away from the spot.I don't know how people handle them. They are meat eating animals. They bite. And may be they might even bite me if i have them as a pet.

Hello.. I'm a dog person. If I get to choose the size of the dog that I like, I'll definitely say the big ones. I like the big ones. I like playing with the big dogs rather than the small ones. I want to hug them and the small ones are not that huggable. The siberian husky for instance. I love its size most especially their furs.

I really love dogs. I don't have a specific preference on big or small dogs. We have a dog which we found outside our house a year ago. I don't know what her breed is. She's not big. She's not small either. She just looks like an ordinary dog. But she's really cute. She does some really cute actions and she loves tummy rubs. :D

I prefer small dogs. I have a shih tzu. She's already 10 years old which makes her a very old small dog. I like small dogs because they don't look old even if they already are.

I generally prefer big dogs. I find big dogs to be more lovey and fun. Also I don't have to worry so much about stepping on them and hurting them. But, if I was going to get a small dog it would be a schipperke. I like that you can carry small dogs in a backpack, but I prefer my dog to be able to pull me up that hill.
