I started using the internet since 2001 and my first ever activity was to open an email account on yahoo which I still have today.Later on I registered on hotmail and then on a musical forum etc etc.....But. at that time I had no idea that one could also earn through the net. I came to know about it only in 2006 when my son suggested it to me and I first joined an article writing site called ciao.co.uk. I am still a member of that site... Friends , Please share your experiences here...

Hi Kiran! I started using the internet since 2004 and of course like you my first activity was to open an email account as that was the first thing the computer class teacher taught us about the internet. Then start searching other things..I was so impressed that time I can search anything I like but not addicted to it as much as I am now.(^^)

Hi Hanum, thanks a lot for your responseI guess once you learn to use the computer and later the internet it is only a matter of time before you get addicted to it ! It has been change of life style to many with the advent of facebook, twitter and other social sites - all the best and happy mylotting

I agree that there is very little to do on facebook and other sites.I dont think that there are many discussion sites like mylot. There were a few which have all vanished and one or two that are around are simply not reliable...

Since Mylot is one of the social sites then I think I agree with you~(^^) If I want to get addicted in social site I would rather be here than Facebook, twitter and others. Great if the other sites are just like Mylot and hope there will be more sites like this.(^^) All the best to you too and happy mylotting!

Hi kiran8, if I'm not wrong it would be 9 years or so back. I think the exact date is not that important as long as I do enjoy the convenience of having the facility of internet that makes my daily living so colorful since the first day I had subscribed the dial-up internet lol...if compared to those earlier days without any internet service. Me too didn't have any knowledge that we could make earning via internet before Anyway I's still in great pleasure busy with net surfing earlier as there were countless of fun for me to explore the vast virtual world lol...and this kept my life rather busy and full of interest. My first online account is yahoo account as well, and it's still with me now. Though I have joined as member of many sites later, myLot still is my most favorite site which I like to participate in the activities available here frequently. Happy posting and have a nice day

It's a beautiful coincidence that both of us have begun our virtual life at the same time It's sure that we are no longer like spending our leisure time doing outdoor physical activities that we were used to do before having internet. Yeah, it's so convenient and easy that we can acquire all sorts of whatever we like when getting on to the web undoubtedly. Until we never realize that time passes by that fast Anyway it's not healthy to spend too long time sitting still in front of the pc. Therefore, for the sake of health we yet have to spend some time doing some physical activities regularly to exercise our muscle so as to promote our blood circulation Have a nice day.

Hi ikbooi, I agree , One has to make a conscious effort not spend all the free time in front of the computer.I spend about 2-3 hours only now whereas earlier it was longer. Now I log on only after it is dark and no scope for any of my other activities like walking and gardening...

I didnt actually own a computer or have a email till about 2002. Im still searching for a way to make a living online.

FOr my personal use I started about the same time you did. I got a Dell laptop and it had MSN on it so I started my first account on MSN. And I got AOl too. SOmeone asked if I had Yahoo and wanted to IM with me so I went on there and started an account on there. I have been on Mylot for over four years. I wish i could remember how I learned of it but I can't.

1989, first year of University, studying Computer Science. Ah, the scary text email system, newsgroups and all that stuff! My first web site was mostly for a PC game (Stars!) and was actually featured in a gaming magazine. That was back when everything was built by hand in Notepad - none of this wussy Publisher or "Save As HTML" nonsense! 2k/s upload over a telephone line, everything optimised so it wouldn't take hours just to update a page... great stuff. Wrote for a couple of online gaming magazines in the mid- to late-1990s, blogged, moderated forums... tried a bit of everything, really. That was all just for fun, of course. No money in it. I started earning online at the end of 2008, setting myself up as a freelance writer/editor.

Oops, typo - that should be 1988! (Obviously trying to make myself younger by a year...)

I have been online since around October 1996 or so. Maybe even earlier than that, but this is as far back as I can really remember Email, etc. I remember getting my first WebTV back in 1997 and my first Email address being Sleepless97@webtv.net Since then I have seen a lot of changes, and owned a couple of computers, etc. It is interesting looking back how far we have come with Computers and internet access today.

Hi Kiran! I have been using it for 5-6 years and like you I opened my first email account on Yahoo. However, at that time I did not have any PC with net either in my office or in my home. I first ventured into Yahoo answers and from there I switched over to mylot and then to Associated Contents. I still love to work on mylot and enjoy my time here.

A few sites and mostly email and chat...Then came wikipedia which was really a revolution with its vast information base and link to so many other sites. After that of course there was no stopping ..Incidentally I came here much later after I joined article writing sites and another discussion site which by the way has vanished. But it was there that I heard about mylot and decided to try it out which was nearly 4 years ago..You of course have been here for a much longer period

I too started using the Internet back in 2001, though I didn't really start getting into it until the beginning of 2002. LOL One of the first things I did was look into getting a dog for my family and I. I wanted to get a purebred from a breeder (I never got one from a breeder before so it was a new experience for me), but didn't know what breed to get. However, I knew it had to be a large breed, as that's what I was accustomed to. Shortly after I got my dog (who has recently passed), I joined a forum specially for this breed. After that, I became hooked to the Internet! I have been using it ever since. Happy mylotting!

Hi sacmom, thanks a lot for sharing your views That was a very practical thing to do, looking up details about the dog! I had a hilarious experience in the beginning when I was still new to the internet.I ordered some DVDs and paid through my credit card which had already expired lol...I had the new card but somehow made this mistake.I came to know about this immediately after ,and told my son about it.He looked at me seriously and told me that since it was a fraud the cops would come making enquiries soon enough ! lol...I believed him and my children went on teasing me.They never stopped until the order got rejected and I got an email, later ordered again through my new card...My children still tease me about it..

I was the first one to get a connection where I live, around 1998/99. It was not easy those days as the connection went off almost on a daily basis. I had a dial up connection then and I think the following stuck in my memory more than even the nursery rhymes: " The server is not functioning properly or has been temporarily removed from the Internet. Your Internet browser is not configured properly. The TCP/IP configuration for your dial-up connection to your ISP is incorrect. Your ISP's Domain Name Service (DNS) server is not working properly."

Hello, my experience with the internet came very shortly after i got a computer. it was 2001 i think. The i was still in elementary school 5th grade and it wasn't hard to get use to working on a computer, that is playing games as all the kids do. I came into contact with the internet through an old dial up modem, that now seem really annoying sense it was loud when it was connecting and we had to pay for use by the minute, it was much more expensive and much slower. I only spread my wings online when i got my dsl line. Now i find most of the things i need online. I just haven't succeeded to make money online yet, and now i'm intensively searching for options.

I started way back in 1999, mostly surfing for adult materials then I got my Hotmail and I also started using MIRC. It was late 2000 that I started to use my time on the Internet to earn money, first was for a webcam company then moved on to updating yellow pages. I was then introduced to adult blogging and I have been doing that since 2004.

It's been so long I can't remember exactly how long. I can remember being at a friends house and booting up her dad's computer. It was old school dial up. I probably was 14 or so so that would be about 15 years ago roughly. I remember thinking it was the coolest thing and we would get on chat rooms. And ofcourse the familiar "you've got mail" you'd hear when you'd sign on to your email.

I used the Internet when it was first available in the UK. That would be sometime in the 1990s. I only had dial-up then and would have to keep reconnecting after an hour or so. And webpages loaded so slowly that most of the activity was done with Yahoo groups via e-mail. Yahoo was my first mail account too, but I set it up for the e-mails to come into Outlook Express. Webmail now, is such a difference! I always had computers before the Internet. The kids used to play games on it, and I used it to edit videos. It wouldn't go on-line at all in those days and I hadn't even heard of the Internet. The computer was an old Commodore Amiga 500 which had to be started with floppy disks. Now that was very slow! _Derek
