Stay fit by eating slowly.

I have learned that it takes 20 minutes for our stomach to recognize that it is full. If we are always in a hurry when we are eating, we are potentially overfeeding ourselves even before our stomach could tell us that we have already consumed more than we should, thereby resulting in weight gain. That's how important it is for us to be reminded to chew our food properly not only for better absorption of nutrients but also on keeping our ideal weight to stay healthy all the time.

When they mean it takes twenty-minutes for our stomach to fill "full" it refers to knowing when to stop. The problem with over-eating isn't so much how fast we consume or food, but eating the right amount and saying "stop" after a respectable-sized meal.
If we still feel hunger, we want to continue eating. Instead of eating and waiting to see if that hunger subsides. Those with conditions such as hypoglycemia this can be a little more difficult because hunger usually means our bodies require caleries. Then you have those who over eat for other reasons. Some medicel and some physocological.

This is correct! Our digestive system needs time to digest our food. The digestion time increases depending on the size of food that we take in that is why it is advisable to reduce the size of the food we take in by chewing. Also, we should always allow to digest fully first. The body focuses on digestion after eating so having other activities besides digestion after eating will partially lessen the body's focus to digestion.

hi thetis,
Well, a very useful information indeed. Long back I remember reading this in a health magazine but the magazine is out of sight and its content and I am on my own. Its eleven odd months I have started eating slowly or else when four of us, for example would sit together for lunch or dinner I would tell them 'excuse me' and rush to the basin.
Now I know the demerits of eating fast.

You are telling the good way to eat. When we will eat as per your sayings everyone lives with good health. And i totally agree with your good way.
But, i can eat as much as possible.

I agree with you! I have definitely found this to be true with me. I have always eaten very slowly and I find that I am able to maintain a slim body weight no matter what I eat, and I think that it is because exactly as you say, I will stop eating as soon as I am full because I have given my body time to register that.

I eat fast. I can't resist the temptation to foods that are so palatable. It's one of my problems in my diet plan. Somehow, I tried to eat slowly and avoid those foods that would trigger my craving. There are times that when I'm in a diet, I cheat on eating foods that are so high in calorie then after that I felt guilt. It's hard to control. I should control myself. We should control ourselves and have a discipline to stay healthy and fit.

hey nice topic thanks for sharing i didn't knew about this stuff, we just eat a lot when we are in hurry not only this we do overeat sometimes when our favorite things cooked around we eat them above our capacities just because its out favorite one. Also apart from that i strongly feel that the food that we eat should be a proper diet and have less fat products, we have been hearing of drinking water this also contributes the best however drinking water beyond our capacity is always useful.

I have learned it from my Physical Education teacher before. Now,it became my habit but sometimes it's a disadvantage especially if I'm in hurry.I can't help it.I'm just a slow eater. The advantage is it really help to keep those additional pounds away.

That's absolutely true and I really want to do that, maybe I'm not used to do that. But, I think pretty impossible to chew the food for 15-20 times every time. I think you need to have a lot of patience to do that. Also, I heard that is better if you don't drink anything during the meals, another wrong thing that I do!
