you have a health problem where you should not be riding them. Some people will go on them even if they have back or neck problems or heart issues. Sadly, an Iraq war veteran decided to go on a roller coaster even though he has no legs. He was allowed to ride, but he was thrown out of the coaster in the middle of the ride and died as a result of his injuries. I did use to ride coasters but I will not ride them now that I have been diagnosed as having a heart problem.

I am a roller coaster ride type of person and enjoy them very much. But if I was diagnosed with a condition, I would not ever take a chance. If I was diagnosed with a heart condition, I would find out what precautions to take and try not to take any risks to create yet bigger problems for me.
This is sad the man went through this, and hope everyone with conditions do take all necessary precautions. Shame to watch diets and take medications and then risk it on things like roller coasters. It is not worth the risk.

I always read the signs on rides and if I had a condition listed, I would not go on the ride.
I can't believe the ride attendant let the veteran on the ride!!! That is horrible! I did read about this online, and just now made the connection that him being an amputee is probably why he was thrown from the ride. They will be getting sued big time, and his family will hopefully get every penny they ask for.

They shut down the amusement park because of it and they are investigating. They said some of the other passengers helped him on the ride. Even so, the attendant is supposed to check and make sure that the ride is safe for all the passengers. I too think that this amusement park will be sued.

I heard about that and that is sad. I do not like to ride roller coasters, in fact the only thing I do ride is the ferris wheel. I am just scared of what could happen. Those rides don't do much for me anyway, it's just a little thrill thing and not something I'm too terribly liking.
I'd much rather play the games, though they can be expensive with being almost impossible to beat!

Well... when I was pregnant I didn't, but I think perhaps if I had back or neck problems I might still do it. After all, it would only hurt me if I got hurt at all. I love coasters, honestly as long as you follow the safety directions of the attendant and keep your legs and arms inside and use the safety features - unless the coaster falls apart while you're riding it, you're fairly safe.

I love roller coasters but I won't risk my health to ride a ride. I have a heart condition where my blood pressure drops too low and it causes blackouts. I guess to some people it is sort of an addiction.

That was so sad. I hope his soul rests in peace.
Well I had never thought of it in the way you've put in. Since I don't have heart problems or neck/back problems, I had never even though of this. But well if I had some heart problems I guess i wouldn't take a ride but if I had just small back problems I would take the ride coz I love rollercoasters and wouln't wanna stop taking rides :(

It was a sad story.I usually go to small roller coaster ride but not on the big ones. But their is one time at Disneyland that I thought It was just a simple ride but as it goes a long the way It was a roller coaster ride and I did not expect that I had already ride one because the environment is dark and you can only feel the air blowing your face and you can see the stars and galaxy with a roller coaster ride and I promise to myself I will not ride it again.

I didn't ride them while I was pregnant for two reasons, the safety of my child and two the tremendous upchuck power I had in/on anything moving. I am healthy otherwise and love coasters. It would be hard for me to stop riding if my doctor told me I had to for medical reasons.

I do ride roller-coasters even though I have medical issues that tell me I shouldn't. However, if I'm feeling bad I wouldn't even be at the amusement park. So my thought is I know when I can and when I can't ride them.
As for the Iraq war veteren that was killed when he was thrown from the roller-coaster, he should've never got on the ride to begin with. Yes, this was a tragic incident but one that could've been prevented. On most roller-coaster your legs are what are truely locked in. By not having legs, how was he locked in? I believe the amusement park should've told him he couldn't ride the rollercoaster. I also believe the war vet should've know better. Best Wishes!

i think it's like swimming in the beach....
even thou how good swimmer you are, there are times and situations too that you suffer stiffed muscle cramps and too late to wait for a rescue....
it simply means,
no such humans as invincible....
even how good quality computer brand printers, there are times too that the paper stacked in the inside printer rollers and the printer operation stops...

I think that will depends of how bad is your health problem. I mean a lot of people have back problems, but that would not stop me to go on a roller coaster.
I think that in the case that you mention, the guys should never let the veteran go on the roller coaster, they just showed lack of good sense.

That's really sad :(
I would probably still go on them, depending on what I had. Like if it were a back or neck problem I would still go on. I don't think I could give them up!
