Someone Could Be Really Lucky Right Now

So I didn't do myself any favors earlier this month. I haven't mentioned this to anyone because I feel badly about it enough. A lot of you know although I've had migraines since I was little, I've had a batch of them back to back in recent months. Well, a migraine played into my "incident" early this month. Of course most of us are on a budget. When I worked I was on one. And when I was forced to go on disability I REALLY had to go on one because the amount is so small. So I get my check on the first, and I go put it in the bank. I have to do it immediately because that is when the rent is due. So despite having this awful migraine, I drove to the bank, deposited it in the bank, but withdrew fifty dollars. The fifty dollars was for gas this month, and for grocery items that weren't food, like dog food, toilet paper... That week was really windy. Annabelle (my dog) didn't even want to go out because the wind was so fierce it would make her stagger. She just had a hard time keeping straight. You know what I mean? So before I get out of my car I make sure everything I need is in my purse or the bag I'm carrying my laundry in (I do my laundry at my parent's home because I cannot afford to have a washer/dryer myself - in return I also do their laundry.) I see the little envelope with the fifty dollars, and I tuck it into my bag. My wallet was buried at the bottom of my purse, and I didn't want to dig it out (I had a big, full purse.) Can you see where this is going? I got out of my car, started towards the breeze way that leads to my apartment. All of the sudden the wind knocked my bag out of my hand. The impact made stuff come out of my bag. I grabbed everything I saw, looked around for anything I missed (I even looked under cars to make sure.), then hurried up to my apartment. As soon as I got in I just had a bad feeling. So I'll skip the frantic search, the walk around the complex, and all that. I lost the fifty dollars. I felt horrible. I beat myself up about it. But then I realized I couldn't change it. And worrying about it wasn't going to fix anything. So I said a prayer for peace, and "pulled myself up by my boot straps" as they say, and started looking to really tighten the money around here this month. I'm not sure how it's going to turn out. I think most of you count 50 bucks as a lot of money, especially those of you who are barely making ends meet. I did call the manager of the complex and asked if anyone turned the envelope in, but of course no one had. It did have my name on it, so if someone found it, they could turn it in and it would get to me. But if it is found (and it very well could have blown away where no one will find it.) I don't blame anyone for keeping it. And I hope if someone has it, that it serves a need they really need met. I think if my migraine had not been so intense I would have dug my wallet out and put the money in there while I was in my car. But I didn't. And that's that. Anyone inadvertently do themselves harm? Was it due to a lot of cicrumstances out of your control? Or has anyone just have a really bad day? I'm not worried about this anymore, but I admit that day was a hard one.

Bless your heart! Those migraines are bad enough without everything else going wrong also. I am so sorry you lost your $50. I had a bad day Thursday. I woke up and you know those days when you wake up you know it is going to be a very challenging day? Well, I was so depressed and down in the dumps and I had a 8 month old baby, 11 month old grandson, 2 year old grand-daughter, and 4 year old grand-daughter. All of them were ill. What a day! Nothing went right all day and you know on those days, how edgy you are and so quick to correct and raise your voice. I felt so extra bad that I was edgy and quick to raise my voice. I was so proud when that day ended. I hope you can get your migraines under control soon. God bless you!

Cathie, you sure had your hands full. My grands and daughter just visited, and they are 5 and 2. I know you from Gather, right? Sending you a friend request (Heather E.)

Yes, Heather, you know me from Gather. I'll go to my friend requests as soon as I finish here. Yes, I have to admit my hands were full. They usually are with these four and sometimes my other 2 year old grandson but that day they were all ill and I was too. Not a good day! Thanks for commenting.

I'm sorry to hear that you lost the money. I hope the migraine went away and that someone found the envelope and returned it to you. I wonder what happened to the days when people would help each other out. It would be nice if everyone would work together in order to make life a little easier instead of everyone having to struggle day-to-day in order to survive. Hopefully this month goes well for you. Have a great week!!!

I have been so tired I have put things away in "safe places" and never seen them again. I have also found both payroll and personal checks in parking lots and turned them in either to the store or to the bank listed on the check, when out of town shopping. I am so sorry this has happened. I hope you find a blessing somewhere else, to make up for it.

I am so sorry that you had to go through all of that. My husband suffers from sever migraines also and he is on prescription medication for it. I wish we could find a good medication that would work from over the counter. The prescription only allows 9 pills per month and he will run out. He was just diagnosed a few weeks ago.

Vanish, or Vanquish? I think Vanquish was a combo of aspirin, acetaminophen and caffeine, and it works on some types of migraines, but it is hard on your kidneys.

You may be right, Heather. It could be Vanquish. This was a long time ago I remember him taking it.

Oh I understand. Mine used to allow 9, but then they quit paying for that patricular migraine medication. The only one they pay for now just gives me six pills a month. And I've run out before. I feel for you guys. Have you ever heard of the OTC medicine Vanish? If you ever run on to it, you might try it for his migraines. It works on my uncle's migraines. Not on mine, but on his. And if it works on one person's, it might work for another's.

Oh that stinks Ambie, and with today's economy, I think there are less honest people..Not that they are bad, but they are also struggling..I just hope that whoever found it and possibly used it, has a conscience and that they replace that money for you.. As for migraines, if you remember my daughter also suffers from these headaches and I recently saw a home remedy that I wonder if you have ever tried? Don't laugh, but it calls for potatoes..Cut a potato in fours, place two directly on your forehead and the other two, hold on your temples... I am curious, I told my daughter this, but don't know if she will try it and I am interested in seeing if it will work...

It may be that you absorb some of the minerals from the potatoes through your skin--potassium and magnesium. I have also read to drink two glasses of Gatorade--again, it replaces electrolytes, including magnesium and potassium. I know, that is a detour on this discussion.

That's good and if it works, please let me know, because I think my daughter has given up on trying to control her migraines other than taking prescription medicine..And if her dad retires this fall, she'll loss her insurance and I am sure the meds she is taking isn't cheap..

oh poor Ambie if someone is on a tight budget thats really not easy then, coping with thngs like this on top of all the other stuff thats doming our way all of a sudden like increase in grocery costs, unexpected bills etc. Hope things get better for you and you wont have to worry too much around the end of the month as money really is tight. Hope you have a blessed week. I just had quite a dentist bill for two capped teeth but I get part of it refunded by my health insurance, the paperwork is there already so they should pay soon.

Bless your heart. Our son and son in law did a furniture delivery for my husband last week. When the lady paid them, James stuck the money into his shorts pocket. They left and were going to stop at the store and pick up a few things for me. When he got to the check out and stuck his hand in his pocket, there was a hole there that he hadn't known about...and you guessed it, the money was gone. He felt bad because he was supposed to half it with Zack, but needed to get it changed first, which was the reason for the stop at the store. God will help you through this month. He always does us!

That really stinks. I am one of those people who would have returned it. I remember one time I found like $43 on the floor at Dairy Queen one time about 5 minutes after I saw a guy walk away from that spot. He was no longer in the building, so I gave the money to the girl behind the counter and told her what the guy I think dropped the money looked like. She looked at me like I was crazy for turning it in.

I'm with you, lilybug. I'll admit I would think how much I'd like to keep money if I found it, but the way I was brought up, if I had kept money I found, I would have felt horribly guilty. So I would turn money in if I found it and knew where to turn it in at.

Wow, that's awful. There was a day about 10 years ago when I was driving home, and noticed a wallet in the road. I pulled over and picked it up. It had $60 inside. I spent a day or two thinking about what to do with this wallet. It did contain a driver's license so I could have easily found the owner, but the greed was getting the better of me. I wanted to spend the $60 and toss the wallet as if I'd never found it (whether it contained credit cards, I don't remember, but even if it had I'm not foolish enough to attempt to use them!). In the end the greedy side of me won and I spent the money. I swear it wasn't even a month later I lost some money of my own. It was a difficult week and it was the last of the money to my name until the following payday which was still a ways off. I believe it was $40 that I lost. It had been in my pocket, and next thing I knew my pocket was empty.. so it fell out somewhere and I never found it. Just a coincidence? Maybe.. I figured it was the Universe's way of evening things out again. I found money that didn't belong to me.. so then I lost money that did belong to me. Either way, I learned a lesson. If I find money that has a way of being returned, I attempt to return it now.

I am sorry about your awful day! I had my wallet stolen at McDonalds once with a fortnight’s pay in it and because we are on a tight budget too it took us months to recover from that mishap; thank goodness we have a credit card otherwise there would have been little to no food that fortnight! When things like that happen don’t you wish you could turn back time and do things differently? As you say there is no point beating yourself up about it because everything happens for a reason and maybe somebody really needed those fifty bucks. I haven’t had any days much worse than the stolen wallet fortunately for a long time and I hope it stays that way. Here’s to happy and lucky migraine-free days!

Oh that must have made you absolutely sick! I am very sorry to hear that. When my sister was sixteen, she took her boyfriend, me, and my best friend to them movies. She locked her doors, but her boyfriend did not close his door. She left her purse under her car seat (she hates carrying things), and since the doors were locked and you couldn't see the purse, she thought nothing of it. But when she came back the purse was gone and we realized he had not shut his door. Weird thing was, a month later someone mailed her her license back that had been in her wallet that was stolen.

Hi Ambie Oh my I am sorry to hear of you horrible day and loss of money. I am a big migraine sufferer and have forced myself to do things I know I can't but had to under migraine attacks. There is not a single day I do not get a headache or two in one day. Migraines I get at least once every other month, this has been my life pattern since I was 8 years old. As for today, I have not had anything terribly bad but do know what it would be like to loose any bit of money as we have been going through a rough time for some time now here at home. Whomever found it perhaps could really use it and know that at times things like this happen and later we get bigger multiple luckier events. (Comfort words), is usually how I can smooth things over for me when the rough really gets going so that I can keep going. I do hope your day gets better.

That's weird. Mine started when I was eight too. I get about 8 a month, and as long as I'm not throwing up or experiencing loss of vision, I can do some things like going to the bank and stuff.

I'm the only one working in a household of 4 adults and a 3 year old and a lot of critters. I'm also the only one who takes care of taking care of this piece of crap house we rent(for way too much money). So I have a lot of bad days.

Personally, I think we all have had days like this, and they are quite often hard to handle and in one respect hard to ever want to deal with and come out of as many times the thoughts, and such will come back to bite you and haunt you. The problem is when you are also experiencing a migraine headache on top of all of this it can make it feel a lot worse for sure. Migraines for me within themselves are Hell. I do hope something good has come from this, or does happen for you.

$50 is a lot to loose. Sorry to hear about this, and hopefully the person who found it really needed it for something and did not just waste it on foolishness.

I know how you feel one about money and both migraines. You can't beat yourself up first thing because we all lose money. It's hard living on a fixed income because I do it too. I have lost $20 dollars before and that's a lot for me too. Beating yourself up makes things harder on finances and on your mind. Usually for me, I have to pretty much pay my bills first of the month and then I spend $60 a week on groceries and supplies. It still doesn't seem like much eventhough you budget your money right. Envelopes are the worst things to keep money in too. Wallets are much easier inside your pocketbook zipped. I have had to chase money too like that. Remember, don't think that you are out of control at all. you are your own person and that means you are in charge. The only thing you need to do is say "I am in control" look at what you think makes you out of control and don't be afraid to ask for help. Thank you for your story, this will help alot of other people too!
