My mom's CPU having Problems

Hello Lotters, You know I was so excited to leave today that last night I decided to set up my moms computer and tested while i use my own A. Voltage Regulator to see if it works. Because I have been planning to buy her an AVR and a Keyboard, which are both missing for her PC. I made that discussion about choosing the PC parts, but some warned me about that Computer shop that I've eyed on. Unfortunately last night even though the Monitor, CPU, and mouse is on, there's nothing showing up on the screen, must have touch something before. So, for now, I am confused wether i should buy her both AVR and Keyboard, or only just a keyboard. Because there's something wrong with that I guess. My friend last night gave me a few tips but I couldn't do it ASAP because it's night time. probably when i come back later or do it tomorrow, Mom's not rushing it anways. Comment y'all later. have a nice day

if i have that problem i may check the following: 1. Check if the Video Card is loose on it motherboard socket... 2. Check if the Video Card connector is loose on its monitor plug connection... 3. The cooler fan of Video Card doesn't turns or it also turns but irregular in rotations... 4. Maybe it needs power reboothing.... 5. Or, the Video Card driver is corrupting....

Hello mantis, That's exactly what happened to my Computer. my brother found a video card in one of the old computers and he put it into mine. it worked for while but i was shocked to see a very weird and disrupted screen image. I had it checked with my brother and all it take was to remove the video card. I've been planning to buy one but unfortunately It's too expensive,i'd rather buy a whole new CPU instead.

if you have plan to buy for another computer, you can still use your old Hard Disk, CD or DVD Rom.

You must have looked if the monitor power up or not. If the monitor has got power and the monitor led is glowing then The priority is to check if the RAM is fixed properly on the motherboard because a computer never runs without a RAM. Then you should check your VGA connections but in such a case the monitor must have displayed "Cable not connected" or something like that. If the problem persists the best is to take it to a computer repair shop. All the best!

Hello pankajgarg, The monitor's light up it won't light on for some reason. I have been talking to a friend and she mentioned that there must be something loose inside the mother board. I do recall removing a memory chip there from the motherboard but am not sure if i had successfully put it back. well, it's old any problems could have occur but thanks for the insights. have a nice day.

Well if it is quite old then clean your pc with an air blower. Sometimes the dust accumulated in cpu is the root of the problem.

dear LK, I am sure you can figure out what's wrong. Just check it piece by piece and you will find where the problem is. I hope it will work or else you really need to buy a new one. Which i think is the best gift you can give to your mom (hehehe) just trying to make you smile my dear brother

Hello Sis-Jaiho, Thank you so much for the comfort i really need it. but it's too late now because last night i was already discourage to buy her a new key board and some. well, it was my cousins gift to her because it was way past her birthday. not only that it's free but it's also second hand. if my other cousin didn't forget the Keyboard and mouse, we wouldn't have problems right now.

Check all external connections once again, monitor connection in particular. If monitor is in good condition, it may show 'no signal' image moving around when it is switched on. That is the indication for bad or loose connection. Check inside the CPU. RAM, VGA (graphics) card and also remove all connections to hard disk, CDROM and reconnect. If the system has been out of use for a really very long time, you may change the system battery (cell type). AVR (I think you mean UPS) is not very essential but key board is. When you are using the keyboard while booting keep pressing 'delete' key. (Of course first of all the video display of the mother board has to show). You will enter the CMOS, where you can check everything is OK. Mother board insignia only comes if the battery inside is OK. By now you would have already overcome the problem. If not the foregoing might be of some help.

Hello Hanuma, These are great information here that you have provided. yeah, it hasn't been use for MONTHS and i thought things are gonna go smooth as planned. probably someday things will go for repairs if we have the time. i'd probably have to replace the battery tht's for sure.

Hello Bhabycatch, I hope i didn't touch something there though. we haven't trouch it since we put it there. but that same night before i was touching the memory to see if it's attached to the motherboard and some powersupply wires there. damn that CPU is old, but we don't know if we can buy a new one since that one was only given. thanks for the offer, maybe we can talked more about it later.

I just hate it when my computer starts to show some problems already because I am not good at repairing computers and I am not sure if I can afford to to pay for the service of the technicians . And also the parts are quite expensive sometimes depending on what needs to be replaced. although I want to learn how to fix my own computer but I don't have the luxury of time to be able to do that. I was not good also in looking for computer shots to buy some computer parts . thankfully I was repaired by one person were to buy the parts but before that I was fooled by one computer shop. And he gave me secondhand Items when I did pay for the brand new computer parts .
