Hello folks (^_^) Read first before judging okay ? (peace) I don't eat street foods,I hope you understand what I mean right? But last night, that was really fun. We visited one mylotter last night, have dinner with other 2 friends. Then, when it's time to go home my youngest son is nowhere to find. So,we just try our luck to look at internet shop nearby. When we saw my youngest son together with on mylotter's nephew sitting and eating comfortably in a "carenderia" (food stall). The newly cooked congee smells good, plus lumpia still frying adds some more aroma. Hmnn...why not try That was a real food trip. We dine at 8pm...have some snack at 9:30 pm delivered by Jollibee. And then again...it's just 10:30pm,another food trip at the river bank (watch out for the diet hahahaa) Have you ever tried street foods ? Or have you ever tried eating 3 times in a row (just one hour interval )

Before I don't eat street foods, i was a little bit picky when it comes to food. However, during my college days. They always say that having a UP life won't be complete if you haven't eaten isaw. So my friends, connives so I could eat isaw and other street foods. Ive tried and love it and to cut the story short, im now eating it as well as fishballs but I haven't tried balot. Not yet. hahahahaha!!!!

Hi jaiho! Wow, you got to meet another myLotter? That's great! The Riverbanks you're talking about is the one in Marikina, right? I've been there before. The food is really great there. I think even if they were considered street foods, I think it's still safe there to eat. And I think the seafoods there are fresh from the market and then cooked upon order. I eat street foods like fish ball. But I make sure that they are fried in boiling cooking oil when I buy them. I have also eaten three times in a row in a span of one hour. Like during festivals.

I miss street food I know it is frowned upon by many because of the questionable cleanliness but i cant help it... whenever i see isaw and barbecue vendors my tummy goes crumbling. you might not recognize these since you dont eat street foods --- my favorites are kwek kwek (quail eggs deep fried with flour) proven (chicken gizzard also deep fried in flour) inihaw na tenga ng baboy (roasted pig ears) and of course... balot! I miss the Philippines!!!

What’s wrong with street food? In most places, its not only fresh & cheap but hygienic and nutritious. It’s a symbiotic relation really…the food vendors know that they have to maintain a certain standard otherwise people wont flock to them and the people know that the food vendors are their only source of cheap filling food on the go. Also, eating street food improves the immunity of the stomach LOL

No, no, I’m definitely not getting you wrong…not everybody is comfortable with street food. Even I don’t take street food anywhere and everywhere… there are shacks which I wouldn’t ever think of entering! However, there are standard established rows of stalls at specific places in every city (specially the office areas and shopping areas) and I’ve found that food served there is really fresh, cheap and no hassles. I’m glad you enjoyed your outing last night…do be careful in choosing the right kind of food stall and enjoy yourself more often.

hell sudiptacallingu , There are many cases of food poisoning, amoeba from street foods,we are aware of that. That's one reason why i don't eat those kind. But like what I've wrote in my introduction...don't get me wrong okay. Now,i know some street vendors are trying their best to maintain the hygiene and cleanliness to reach/met customer's standards. But not every one is doing that (i am sure you know that too) Ok,I've tried some providing I see how it is being cooked and check few things. That's another reason too...I don't have a jungle stomach like one mylotters says (hehehe) So,i need to take care with what i eat,or else i will end up looking for "john" Last night was real fun,and I am sure i will eat and try again more street foods

Although it is not a regular thing for so many including me to eat street food as you call it but under certain circumstances as the one you have mentioned the food will taste wonderful and no one will remember how unhygienically it is prepared! I had a get together of classmates, recently and boy oh boy we did worse things!

abc - delicious malaysian dessert
Hello sis! We rarely eat street foods because we used to have the homemade one. It is not because of the cleanliness as not all the street stalls are dirty. They have delicious local foods and whenever I have chance to eat there I will choose ABC as my dessert and chicken rice is my favorite menu!(^^)

OMG , where in your stomach did you put all those foods in just one hour interval?! When friends gathers we always have food trips. And yes, we would eat those street foods with gusto. I specially liked the isaw dipped in a spicy dip. Yes, i like the congee too, with ox tripes and boiled egg. It's a good thing i have a "jungle stomach". They don't ruin my stomach.

Whenever I visit a new place, I look for ethnic things there particularly the food and that I get in streets only. To know a people is to know their food. Out of the context : once I begged a loaf of 'mandua' a local food-grain of hills which I had not tasted that far, from a farmer. In exchange, I gave him a lot of urban eatables I had with me as my travel kit. No doubt, I enjoyed the 'mandua' loaf with 'gud' - indigenous brown sugar, which the farmer provided along with the loaf.

13 Jul 11
hello sir, I also taste food for each places that i visited. but not exotic :( i haven't tried. So,the mandua is some kind of bread? I guess it's a rare one..or else you can buy it from the store rather than having it traded with something
• India
13 Jul 11
@jaiho, Mandua is a foodgrain, loves are made of its flour. The place I exchanged it had no market, but an isolated hilly village. I don't think it is available in any market. It is a food of the poor. @reallysuny, yes, you are right. The original taste is there only at local small shops/vendors. Tasting local foods gives an idea of the people there and their ways of living.

It seemed that you really had a good time at that night. My husband and I go to riverbank once in a while and I really enjoy eating street foods there. I eat street foods even though my mom do not allow me to do so. Eating street foods is fun for me but eating there everyday is unhealthy.

I've been enjoying street foods since I was little. But ever since my trip to the hospital due to typhoid fever, which we suspect was because of street food, I stayed away from them up to now. I miss eating street foods however I really need to watch out or I might end up in the hospital again.

Hello dear sister, Street food is not good for health but once in a while it is ok dear. Nothing will harm so just enjoy the tasty food. We do eat from these street dhabas while on shopping that also if our kids are with us. They are gong out for eating something from outside, even though they ate full at home, the hungry will starts once we reach the market. But we just allow them to taste those food too as we are going for a shopping with them once in a year or two. So let them too enjoy it. But eating on one hour interval, not possible (lol)

I use to eat a lot of street food when I was young but I'm just a little bit more health conscious now LOL, we were not allowed to buy from vendors in our school so that made me more curious especially when I was in high school, to name a few balot, lumpia gulay ( vegetable spring rolls), quail eggs, corn on the cob, dirty ice cream, egg wrapped in flour, goto(porridge), pares( soup or rice toppings), banana q(bar-b-q banana), so many others whose names I cannot remember cause when I travel to different regions of our country, I always see to it and try what is different that cannot be found in Metro Manila, oh just do not forget to bring medicine for your stomach just in case

When I am travelling, I quite like to try out the street food to see how the people in that country or city are most likely to eat - also being a student I don't have much money and street food is usually the tastiest! Yes, sometimes you need to be careful about how the food was cooked, but most of the times that I have eaten street food I have found it to be really delicious and definitely worth trying!!

Food trip is what i love doing with my friends. I never diet. Haha! I may say "I'm on a diet", but it never pushes through. I just love eating! So however I set my mind up on losing my weight, I couldn't do it. :p Anyway, I have tried a few street foods, like the normal barbeque being sold in the streets. haha! And I've tried "balot", but I didn't eat the chick. Just the soup and the egg. :p I haven't tried "isaw" and all other parts because my tastebuds reject them, unfortunately. But they smell so yum!
