Define Success

Looking for the meaning of success is just as easy as looking to dictionary or better yet, we know it even if we cover our very own eyes. But the real question that bugs me is...how do we define success in the setting of this real world we live in? I had done my degree course already and passed by God's grace the Nursing licensure exam. I have a job and so far it goes well. But it's not the job that gets you paid that you deserve. Nurses are overflowing here in the Philippines. I just got lucky I got a job, while some have to undergo volunteering and training to be able to get into the institution. Now, my dilemma is that my mom wants me to proceed into medicine. I want to work abroad first before doing so...I can't define the word SUCCESS with my life now. I cannot say I'm successful now and will SUCCESS would mean earning the title of MD is better than landing a job that pays me well abroad... what do you think?

You mu take course in medicine as you have already done course in nursing. So I suppose you have some liking for medical field. Success for me is living up to your full potential, whatever that be.

Hi Miessy, Actually medicine is a very long course to study. Here in India, it is four and half years of MBBS, then one year internship, then 2 years specialization and then 3 years super specialization. One needs to take all the aspects in to consideration. You must be knowing pretty well what you want to do. Actually my sister is a surgeon having her own hospital. So I find that being doctor is quite satisfying. But it certainly requires hardwork almost throughout your life.

Yes, your time frame studying medicine is just the same here in the Philippines. And you are right, being a doctor is satisfying, fulfilling but requires hard work, and brain work almost the entire life since they are dealing with patients and it is required to be updated with new treatments, methods, etc. Are you also studying medicine like your sister?

thanks cactus,my bad i just read the message. Yes, I like medical field. In fact, being a doctor is my childhood dream but when I grew up and become a nurse, I realize that studying medicine is hard. And there are even some doctors who took up nursing just to go abroad. Nowadays, practicality is much weighed than title. Businessmen have little knowledge but then they succeed. However, i will consider taking up medicine in the future after I work abroad.

I agree with you for I am also a licensed Nurse and I am having all the hard time in the world, I am working in a non-nursing institution and I am not totally happy. Being a nurse is my passion. But it's really hard as of this moment, as what you have mentioned we are over flowing! :( Go for what makes you happy, not for your mom's happiness and for sure she'll understand you. :) Success in life means is an achievement of something desired, planed or attempted, or the extent of such gain. I don't know if I can feel that someday but I am really hoping. I trust all to GOD, I know he has plans for us. God bless us all

yes it is a sad fact that nurses are forced to work out of their field. I've been there and like you I wasn't happy with it, that's why I resigned and found abyss by working as real nurse in the hospital. I hope you will find that happiness too. God bless Nurseclare!

Yes. We all have good times and bad times at different level of life. Take it as challenging and when you come up you'll be as fresh as ever with added confidence.

Well, you're grown up now and has your own decision. Why don't you decide by yourself? Do what you really want and that is the key to success. If you really want to go to abroad first then do it. goodluck in your decision!

Success is when you set your goals in life and achieved the goals you set in life. Well planned, well prepared, well designed, and the will to make it happen, only then you can achieve and thereby enjoy SUCCESS.

Hi, I remember reading to become successful stay on purpose and not on outcome. do what you love to with full dedication and not just for fame or money. they will follow. build up your will power and start dreaming with open eyes. Success will be yours as 'Success' without "U" is not practicable. Best of luck! Viju

Thanks VIJU, you made sense when you said that success is nothing without "u"...but sometimes, success is best shared when we consult our decisions in life with our dear parents...but yeah you had a point in there, it's all about me...on how I handle myself in the field that I desire and money will follow.

The blessings and advises of parents make you take decisions wisely and confidently. With their good wishes you can not only reach the sky but even go for stars. From childhood we have been taught to respect and regard Mother(I), Father (II), Teacher (III) and then God (IV). In India we follow the tradition of touching the parent's and elder's feet before we leave home for work or start anything new. It is an integral part of our tradition which shows the respect, seek the blessing too. You are in a profession of 'serving' man kind. So treat everyone with a warm heart and keep focused on the goal- you will definitely succeed. Viju

success is something which every one wants to achieve in his or her life...for every person defination of success may vary. Some define success to become rich, some define success as to be recognised by everyone... But my philosophy is that..always dream big only than you can aim high...
