Three days wasted to get the right doctor

My younger son (Subhee’s dad) was having back pain since 3 months, he also gained weight, he is physically active person, and he shouldn’t have gained weight. Doctors suspected problems in thyroid glands, advised hormone therapy.
For proper investigation, last week, I took him to the best Government Hospital of the state; this is attached to the Medical College here.
To get a ticket in the ‘out-door-patient’ counter, it took 2 hours because of the long queue.
Finally we could meet the physician in his chamber, he advised about 20 tests, some of these could be done in the hospital, some free, some on payment; on enquiry we were told that majority of the test equipment were out of order; so we got them done at private labs; it is known fact that a portion of what we paid, goes back as commission to the doctors who advised the tests; believe me the paper on which doctors write the prescription is supplied by these labs, have their name, address, and phone numbers!!By the time some of the reports were given, the doctors were out, next day we went, collected the reports, met the doctor, he told us to come to his residence in the evening only, for ‘BEST’ treatment, I know what this best means, you pay his fees at home.
Next day we met a Medicine Specialist in my city, here, too you have to buy token paying 500 rupees in the morning, he was examined at 3pm luckily, the doctor saw all the investigation reports, said everything including the T3/T4/TSH was normal and advised, NOT to go for hormone therapy, and to do Yogic breathing exercises as taught by Ramdev Baba of India; and eat low calorie foods.
All the three days he had to be on leave, lost his salary for these days, he has joined this job recently, so no leave, except the ‘weekly one day’ off.
What is the situation in your place, do the Government doctors and hospital suck your money this way?
Where you prefer to go during illness?
Share your experience and please comment on this story.
Thanks in advance.
Professor ‘Bhuwan’. .
Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

I returned to America from China when I found out I had a fistula because the hospital in the city I was working in wanted a lot of money before they would even consider surgery and they didn't want to deal with it because they said I had already been cut twice. The day I flew into St. Louis, my brother drove me home (two hours away) and brought me to the emergency room at the University hospital. They went ahead and examined me and set me up to see doctors at the clinics a week or so later. I was admitted to the hospital for surgery about two weeks later. All of this was with no payment up front. While I was in the hospital, I applied for medical assistance but didn't get approved until February. I was billed for the hospital expenses, but eventually I was approved for January and those bills were covered. Now my bills are all paid because I am on disability. I think they want too many tests, but at least when I went to the emergency room last weekend for breathing problems they ruled out a lot of problems that could have been serious. I don't like when doctors try getting a lot of unnecessary tests, but sometimes it must be done to be safe. The worst thing is when one doctor tries to get you in for treatments that are not really needed. I hope things are going better for your son now. Have a great week!!!

Sadly, we had the same problems here in the Philippines. Perhaps we can attribute it to the fact that we are among the 3rd world countries, professionals are practicing graft and corruption. Now we complain that our government officials are corrupt when people at the private sector does the same. Sigh..

Suck your money away? yeah... Here it's mostly all private. If you're employed by a larger company, you have an option to purchase insurance. Depending on what kind of insurance, the insurance company covers all or part of your medical expenses. But you have to pay a monthly premium. If you can't get insurance through an employer, you can get private insurance, but it's expensive. If you're retired or on disability you can get government insurance, but there's a limit on what they will or won't cover.
I must say we don't run into the issue of broken equipment here though. The medical care is pretty much state of the art, but it's expensive.

Hello my friend Professor2010 Ji,
Well, with concern to hospital admin, it is all common, from here to US (I had bitter experience there-2003). But In wish to concentrate on your 'BACK-PAIN' problem. My hubby is 92 Kg almost 25 Kg over-weight and usually gets back pain. We both used to get back pain in 1970-71, when it was difficult for us to make the body straight to un-bolt the doors and windows even. But in 1971, while my hubby was in Delhi, he saw and understood that there is absolutely 'NO-MEDICINES' for purely back pain. Other than exercise after, one has opened his/her eyes early morning. Sometimes, it is very difficult to get up. But a small, without any medical bill, exercise will relieve all back pain. I describe as below :-
" ALWAYS SLEEP ON HARD BED. AFTER OPENING EYES, SLIDE PILLOW, IN CASE OF USING, THEN STRAIGHTEN BODY AND LOOK UP-RIGHT TOWARDS THE CEILING/SKY. MAKE THE HEAD TO FEET STRAIGHT TOUCH BOTH FEET. RELAX. NOW TRY AND LIFT YOUR BODY GIVING SHAPE OF BOW, TOUCHING YOUR HEAD AND FEET ONLY, IT WILL BE DIFFICULT AS PAIN IS THERE, BUT TRY, AS YOU TAKE BODY UPWARD MAXIMUM, HOLD IT THERE AND COYUNT 1-2-3. LOWER THE BODY AS YOU BTREATHE OUT. 2-3 TIMES A DAY WILL TRELIEVE BACK PAIN WITHIN A WEEK." Try . Even my hubby has no back [pain, still he does even today.
Thanks.
May God bless You and have a great time.

I too have been suffering with so much pain, i also want a good doctor.
Anyways, you have wasted three days time and money, especially in India it is better to do not go to the government doctors. They are fully money oriented...

Its hard to find a good doctor these days. Most doctors are out to make money and could give less about the patient I honestly feel that way from experience. Sorry about your son from what I feel he was led on with inaccurate information by the doctors there in India. Sometimes I wonder if these doctors look at the blood test accurately and I have always wondered if the doctors just make up things when they are not sure.

We don't yet have gov't hospitals and doctors, although the new "ObamaCare" is intended to make medical care the gov't's business. So docs don't bleed us of money of their own volition. But they order tests we don't need in order to protect themselves. Here, people will sue anyone at the drop of a hat if anything at all goes wrong--if they slip and fall on a patch of ice they'll sue the homeowner whose sidewalk they fell on, a doctor that they can claim missed an inner ear condition that caused them to become unbalanced, a hospital that treated them years ago for an ear infection, the maker of the cement of the sidewalk, etc.--they will make people pay because they themselves were talking on a cell phone and paying no attention to where they were going. If a doctor makes an honest mistake, God help him because the patient will sue him out of business and he'll be ruined or have insurance premiums so high that he'll never make another cent that's free and clear.
So we are charged for tests we don't really need because of greedy fellow citizens who want to blame everyone for life's misfortunes.
I hope your son recovers completely and soon.

hello dada,
Government hospitals here usually you also need to wait for a long queue.
But nothing to pay for unless you were advised to done some lab tests in private labs.
Well,I don't have much trouble when it comes to this matter dada, because we have medical assistance in our TV station..so,I can see a doctor anytime.
Not much problem with lab tests also because i have few doctor friends that can assist to do tests in hospitals where they are residents.
I hope your son is doing great now dear dada...so if he is Shubee's dad, then he must be my brother :) is he my older or younger brother?

Hi Papa,
Our Government hospitals can only be used by the poor and it is my opinion that they try not to do testing unless extremely necessary. They will medicate as much as they can and only test if the medications do not work. They will not spend Government money to see if something can be ruled out. The only time doctors and hospitals suck our money is when they know we have insurance and then they can bill exorbitant amounts to the insurance which later as a patient we are stuck with high balances of what the insurance does not pay and or our insurance premiums can go up if the high claims are used.
I do hope they get to the bottom of, if anything is wrong with your son and that he can regain, better health as well.

hi professor, you should have brought him to the nearest private hospital and it is much better. considering that the service is excellent, you only have to add a little less amount than to fall in - line to a government hospital which we know their service already

Professor hi!
I never like to go to the doctor. I am very suspicious of doctors. it seems like the majority of them today only want to make money.
I hope your son is feeling better and that something is helping him and he can get back to work.
Usually here we wait in the out-patient area for about an hour sometimes more depending on who is ahead of us. That's way too long if someone needs help right away.
I do know what its like to wait forever get an expensive bill and little to no help. Believe me.
I hope you have an awesome lucky day. We all could use one.

I avoid government hospitals as it is a known fact how inefficient they are. There are no general practitioners these days but only specialists that has made matters worse. I have lined up a few private doctors who I am allowed to phone and consult. The private hospital that I had to visit on account of my accident took care of me well only because I knew someone there or else it is the same state even in private hospitals - long ques and procedures that would make one not to go there a second time. I hope your son will recover soon. Yes. Yoga is the right approach.
